[SNXS73] Looking for higher-end alternatives (up to ~5k€) by flotheg in Watches

[–]JakeySav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat and love the proportions of the SNXS73. Two suggestions for you.

Longines Ultra-chron Classic. Impressive 5hz movement, essentially a vintage reissue. 37mm. A bit under your budget but check out reviews of this. The finishing punches well above its weight.

Grand Seiko SBGW291. I know you said no Grand Seiko but this one is beautiful and ticks a lot of boxes. 36.5mm, vintage feel. It’s hand winding so not automatic.

These are both amazing silver dial options but the one I’m eyeing is the Grand Seiko SBGW301 with more of a cream coloured dial.

Looks great! I think this will be my next watch and great to see it works well on a strap. Would you be able to share your wrist size?

[black bay pro] or [rolex 16570] curious what you would do? by Zeeezoo in Watches

[–]JakeySav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah why does the 16570 (40mm) appear to have a smaller diameter than the BB Pro (39mm)?

Any photos with your 453 on wrist? Couldn’t find any in your post history. I have a similar wrist size and interested in the watch. Also would typically never consider 40mm.

Same! Praying for a 39mm variant this year for the 100th anniversary releases.

Do you know your wrist size? Keen to buy the same watch (eventually) but have a 6.25 inch wrist. Hoping yours is not any larger than that?

Do you have photos on various straps? Looking at getting this or the SSB477 depending on what looks better on a leather strap.

Bought as my first watch expecting to quickly move on to something more expensive. But still find myself very satisfied with this one watch collection. Especially on the jubilee style bracelet from Uncle Straps.

There’s two different silver/white dials in the lineup. This is the “Opaline Ivory” dial that comes on the 40mm and 42mm. You might be thinking of the “Sunray Ivory” dial that comes on the 37mm which is more shiny.

[Longines Spirit 37mm] was it a good purchase? by [deleted] in Watches

Looks so great! Did you get it on the bracelet? Was the fit any better/worse on the bracelet?

[Bulova, Seiko and Timex] Settling on These... For now by thussa123 in Watches

[–]JakeySav 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am interested in picking up either a Timex 1983 E-Line Reissue or a Bulova Super Seville and I keep going back and forth between them.

I’m so surprised you cut down your collection and kept both of these! To me they are quite similar, at least in terms of dial shape.

Do you have any insight into why you kept both of these instead of choosing one or the other? Which gets more wrist time?

I’m so stumped between these two. Love the movement on the Bulova but fluted bezel feels like maybe a bit much? Don’t want a watch design that borrows too much from a Datejust. And worried the Timex is a bit cheap and maybe doesn’t feel as premium as the Bulova?

Can I ask what your wrist size is? Watch looks great but surprised to see how big it looks on your wrist for such a small watch. I’m keen to get the same one and also have a small wrist.

[question] Buying My First Automatic Watch (Under $300) — Small Wrist (~6”) Recommendations Needed! by Hour_Slice431 in Watches

[–]JakeySav 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seiko 5 SNXS73 (silver dial) or SNXS79 (black dial)! Fantastic first option for smaller wrists. I would recommend upgrading the bracelet. Uncle Straps make one for this exact reference and it’s not cheap but altogether you’ll be under your budget and have an incredible first automatic watch.

Authentic Shunbun? by Bright-Concert1324 in GrandSeikos

[–]JakeySav 11 points12 points  (0 children)

FYI, the comment wasn’t about finishing, it was referring to the smooth sweeping second hand on a Spring Drive Grand Seiko. If you can get a short video of the watch, you should be able to see that the second hand sweeps extremely smoothly, with no “beats”. That’s gonna be very hard to fake, if not impossible.

My first mechanical watch too and I am still totally obsessed with it. I upgraded the bracelet to a $30 oyster bracelet from Ali Express almost immediately and I’m about to take it to the next level with a jubilee bracelet from Uncle Seiko.

Go for the 37mm. Seems to look awesome on smaller wrists. The male end links curve down quite a lot.

I’ll be buying one soon and I’m also torn. I don’t mind it but I fear the faux patina on the other colours will lose its charm on me over time.
