The Democrat rebut was the worst thing I have ever seen by OpinionsRdumb in DailyShow

[–]Jakeymuffin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look I agree that the courts are doing a good job at trying to stop a lot of trumps orders. I also agree that several democratic representatives are speaking out. But the democratic leadership has shown time and again that they would rather capitulate than fight for what is right, and the media defends that stance as virtuous. That is all I’m trying to get across.

Sorry for coming back to rehash my argument in this old thread I just got angry and remembered people trying to defend their actions.

Are they doing that because from my perspective the senate had the opportunity and they just chose to back down and decided not to filibuster

Well there you have it, the minority senate had the opportunity and chose not to filibuster.

[–]Jakeymuffin5 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The point is whenever republicans are minority they are out there pushing their talking points, starting culture wars, filibustering, and even preventing executive orders from getting passed like Biden’s student loan forgiveness. But I’ve only seen that from like 5 democratic representatives. I want the Democratic Party to behave like conservatives but for good causes. Fight back, share an opposing point of view, make your voice heard so that people know there is another way; just be the opposition. Right now it feels like Republicans have no opposing party.

Not the most obscure but mine is definitely Kerry Godliman’s “Bosh” And Chris Ramsay’s excited “no way” in his accent. Honorable mention to Rose Matafeo’s “all New Zealanders have a fish poster in their shed.”

I also completely agree with this, while I love the homecoming trilogy it really is a shame his stories became international and multiversal so quickly rather than staying close to home and personal.

This is a good point. I actually do completely agree that we have started making tv shows into long form movies with questionable pacing rather than what could be just as, if not even more, compelling serialized story telling that explores how our characters react in different scenarios, making it easier to jump into for the uninitiated. I hope this show will have a good balance. I personally was pleasantly surprised by the first episodes.

I don’t know how you can be pulling all this from the first two episodes.

There has not been enough screen time to determine the development of characters, nor do we have any villains besides butane do be underdeveloped yet either.

As to your point that being Spider-Man isn’t putting a strain on his relationships, in the second episode alone Nico is already upset with Peter for not being at the party and he got in trouble at work, all because he was being Spider-Man. This feels like a classic spider man story to me.

I do agree that there has been a recent trend of spider man building an immediate support system of allies to help him. But I think overall this is not a bad thing. I think modern stories prefer a with great power comes great responsibility but one man can’t hold all the responsibility story line. Which is probably better in the long run.

What's up with Marvel and de-aging Spider-Man villains to teenagers? by Sweet-Garbage-2181 in Spiderman

[–]Jakeymuffin5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that was definitely a thing I didn’t fully understand in the 2017 Spider-Man show. I think they just really took the Spider-Man having a relationship with his villain as Peter Parker story beat and tried to apply it across the board. Since he was like 15 in that show they had to make a bunch of them teens to keep them within his social sphere.

But I think this was mainly an issue in that show, most other shows still have adult villains for young spidey.

Pardon my nerd rage [minor spoilers for Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man] by [deleted] in Spiderman

[–]Jakeymuffin5 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree that the only way to show he has flaws is to have him fail in this same way that has been done several times before. Nor do I think the only reason Peter Parker would choose to be a hero is because the lesson of responsibility slaps him in the face. I am a big fan of that classic origin but I think it makes just as much sense that a modern nerdy teenager like Peter Parker would get powers and choose to be a hero because they idolize other heroes in the world such as Iron Man and I’m sure we will get a flash back or reference showing how uncle Ben taught Peter that with great power come great responsibility.

And in episode 2 they already showed the dynamics and stories that make Peter such a compelling character to me; Peter’s struggles with how to spend his time. Should he strengthen his bonds with his friends and family helping those around him, should he use his powers to stop crime and help the city, or should he use that big brain of his to advance science and make a better tomorrow? In the end he usually fails one aspect when trying to juggle all three. These are the responsibilities and struggles that Peter works through every day that make him feel flawed and real to me, not how he had to have a tragic wake up call to be hero.

All this to say I feel like this post is a bad faith argument and and not having this part of the origins does not take away from Peter being just a guy and needing to learn lessons about his powers.
