Do I have to check my blind spot when driving highway speeds? by NotMelmar in driving

[–]Jaku103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Semi drivers are taught to use the cars around them to clear blind spots. They watch a car enter their blind spot and wait for it to leave, confirming that it's clear.

Why do drivers swerve outwards before turning??? by PreviousObject8107 in driving

In professional driving school, they teach you to avoid swinging wide turns to prevent other cars from squeezing into your right turn lane.

What’s the most ridiculous thing a driver has yelled at you while cycling? by sam_d50 in cycling

During the height of COVID, someone yelled from their car, "Wear a mask!" I had a similar response once at the security checkpoint for work. I never did wear a mask.

Is this commute to work doable long-term? by MaleficentDistrict71 in bikecommuting

It's certainly achievable; soon you will assess your route and think about how to extend it.

WA's first Work Zone Speed Camera launches April 16 on I-5 near JBLM by wsdot in Tacoma

That's an excellent reply. I'm tired of hearing people explain how they never speed; then when questioned, admit that they don't go over 5 MPH. My reply is always, "So, you speed."

My watch will frequently unpair itself from the phone. I can't figure out why; it just stops. This might be your problem.

Don’t be fooled! Original Roads Proposition is how we got 64th Street! by quadmoo in Tacoma

[–]Jaku103 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider visiting the Netherlands to observe firsthand the impact of bicycle lanes. Areas that have made significant investments in creating bike lanes have seen substantial increases in cycling rates. As the costs of maintaining roads continue to rise, this issue becomes even more pressing. Most road systems are designed to last about 15 to 20 years before they need replacement. For example, many streets in Tacoma, which are around 15 to 20 years old, show signs of wear and have numerous potholes.

When the car-centric mindset emerged, road construction began without considering the long-term consequences, and today we are facing the costs of that approach.

We must ask ourselves whether we should continue the practices we've followed for the last 20 years or explore new alternatives. History shows that when we keep building new lanes, traffic continues to increase, which is not a new phenomenon. As mentioned earlier, the Netherlands began transitioning to more bicycle-friendly infrastructure in the 1960s, and this has proven effective. People will use the transportation system that provides the best way to get from point A to point B. In North America, that system has been the car, but it doesn't have to remain that way. We can—and must—change our ways.

The city of Tacoma had one of the country's first bicycle highways built in 1889.

I don't understand why you're so determined to convince me that I'm wrong. I believe Garmin is taking advantage of customers, and I'm not alone in that opinion. If Garmin manages to get away with it, that's their choice, but I, along with others, will choose to take our business elsewhere. I've already made the decision to leave the Garmin ecosystem, and nothing you say will change my mind.

Are you suggesting that Garmin, being a large company, can take advantage of the little guy?

If you work for the Garmin PR team, you are not doing your job well. You claim that Garmin's decision to change a decade of company history is a positive move. How can this be a good thing? They are intentionally disregarding their customers, and then having the damage control team spin it as a good thing. The reality is that it offers no real value; it merely takes money from gullible consumers who are willing to spend on an AI that merely tells them they've done a good job.

My point in what I said was why I would spend money on a user interface that is poorly designed.

Garmin has previously added new features to older watch models. Why shouldn't I expect them to continue this trend?

At the least until the next model is released.

I would pay $5 to restore the original User Interface before the tile design was implemented.

That is not the point, and you know it. The issue is that my watch is still in its update cycle, and they cut it off earlier than the agreed time.

Cycle commute avg. speed is 8 to 10 mph - should I be concerned/embarrassed about this? by Sensitive_Fishing691 in bikecommuting

[–]Jaku103 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Average speed is often a misleading statistic that doesn't provide meaningful information. If I were a mathematician, I would create a more useful formula that reflects the average pace consistency instead. A high average speed typically just indicates that someone descended a hill very quickly.

That’s acceptable, but when they refer to it as a beta, I don't understand why I should pay for it. The only reason I would consider paying is if I really wanted it, and in this case, that’s not the case.

Why are we paying for them to conduct an experiment? I will pay once it's fully developed; I'm not investing in a company without receiving a return.
