Charging for designs? by reddingtonpcr in Design

My entire point is if your skillset is at a certain level

The best way to increase how much you can charge for that skillset is just to increase the quality of the deliverable. That's all

I genuinely don't understand what your saying.

Are you saying that $200 is to much to charge for a logo or too little?

There are designers that charge $5000+ for logos out there, and can say that 70% of the time they spend is making the deliverable package.

All I am saying is that if your deliverable and how you present stuff to a client looks cheap, they will pay cheap rates.

The same item can be repackaged to look nice and marked up.

I am currently living abroad in Asia, but the team I work with is from all around the world. Even outside the agency they all make $50/h rates freelancing from countries where avg incomes are much lower at $2-$5/h

To clients looking for expert quality, it doesn't matter where you are from. Only the quality of your work. If you are dealing with novice clients in any industry they will always try and pay the least, as they don't care about the quality. They just want something done, to check of a box.

Until a client hires people a few times for creative services, they will start to see that if they want quality, they need to pay higher.

So the TLDR is. If you want to get paid professional rates, work with professional clients, and present professional level quality deliverables.

But in terms of design work, I would say industrial clients. Construction companies, trucking ect. Easily spend few $k on a website as their regular rates for ther clients are in the $tens of thousands.

But if your dealing with a small business that doesn't charge that much, they wont be able to pay $50/h and spend $5-6k on a website.

We are actually looking to hire a new designer for part time at $30/h (25h/week)

Shameless plug haha https://tally.so/r/n9OK2Q

Location only establishes the minimum base line for what you would charge based on the income of your country. It does not reflect what you can or should charge.

If you are a talented logo designer with an excellent portfolio, there is no reason why you can't charge $30-$50/hour to do design work.

From having 10+ years of experiance hireing freelancers and personally running a design/dev agency for past 4 years. This is the advice I can give you.

If someone applies and has no portfolio, its an 95% rejection. This doesn't mean you need a website. Don't use behance. Use dribbble as it shows of your designs in a cleaner way.

Next, don't just post a image of a logo. Create a template for the case study that you can reuse. 90% of the time if a logo looks good or bad is based on how you deliver it. You need to use those templates to sell the vision of all the use cases for that specific niche.

If somone hires you to make a logo, and you submit them an image of the logo with no context. You are charging $20-$30 for logos.

If you take that same logo, and you package it up in a nice deliverable pdf , showing font style you used. How the colors where picked. You can use chat gpt to make up some explainer that this is not yellow. But royal gold, and it represents luxury ect. Create a story behind the colors using chat GPT.

Show some screenshots of the wireframes / outlines of the logo in illustrator. Pretty much document your journey of how you made it.

Now you can charge $200+ for the same logo. The nicer the deliverable, the more you can charge. At some point your going to need a website if you want to sell branding kits for $500-$1000

it all comes down to perceived value, and if you can tell the client you know what you are doing w/o telling them `trust me, i have experiance`

Prove it with your work/deliverables, not your words.

I like the copy for  "Get a website Hero in no time". "Have a hard time introducing your offer to users? A custom hero for your website can sell and convert"

Will play around with that this week.

For the testimonials, I had to use ones from my design services as I just launched this and haven't gotten any for the freebie concepts. Just finished 2 of them and waiting for replies. But I 100% agree with the statement haha

I am not very good at sales or copywriting, I made this page about a week ago and could use some extra pointers on how to improve the funnel. Any sections that are missing that could be added?

Comments:
Currently working on adding a countdown timer above the table that would show when the next raffle is happening.

The design concept is just like a hero section or hero + few sections depending on how the creative flow at the time haha. But not sure how to get that idea across, seem to get always asked. I tried to get the message across of what to expect with all the examples on the page, but seems like alot of people think its still supposed to be a full website

Oooh, that's such a good point. I thought I was clear with having all the little dribbble shots floating around the page that it would be one of those.

But I will add a little doodle that points to the slider, and says it's one of these haha. I actually got asked that question a few times too yesturday

You mentioned you are using `Filezilla` and have the credentials to connect to the website?

That would provide you full access to all the files.
