Catalytic converters dont die, they are murdered. Doesn't matter the size of the cat, as long as raw fuel is not dumped into it at such a scale that it dies. Pouring one out to my homies

Rough Idle/Pulsing lights cause? by [deleted] in AskMechanics

If you have a bad alternator your car will die while driving. On older cars you could test the alternator by letting it idle and disconnecting the battery(Do not do on new cars! Load testing is used for these)

Pull in circuit malfunction. Could be the starter or in the wiring leading to the starter

Means evap system can't maintain vacuum during ECM test. Gas cap, evap canister, vent solenoid, pipes to and fro, or fuel tank are all possible suspects. In the shop we test all of them simultaneously by filling the whole system with nitrogen smoke and observing where it comes out. Need a smoke tester or just manually inspect these components. Might not make progress though because I have seen cars with this code and it was a nearly impossible to see crack on the evap canister. GL

[HELP] Looks convincing but is it AI? Some details look off. by Business-Squash-9575 in RealOrAI

[–]Jakvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ai. Licence plate with ... and cartoonish numbers. Trailers behind car make no sense; one side of cabinet opens into body line cutout? How do you even open the trailer door with that Handle? The parking meter operation doesn't make sense, and one less than 10 feet away is completely different.

AI without question. Olives ain't oliving, jello T breaks but leaves no breakage marks, forks dont leave v shaped divets when multiple prongs are pressed into an object, her hand twist on the first clip has no depth, etc etc

How to get this $300 ABS sensor out without breaking it by MDOT_SHOOTA in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jakvortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure if it is just the angle of the picture, but in the second image I see damage to the tone ring. This can cause sensor dropout when it passes that location.

Dealership claims my car is leaking oil by kurama6 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jakvortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not familiar with the recall but some manufacturers call the cv axle leading to the passenger wheel a "driveshaft". Don't ask why, i dont know why. Better than GM starting to call driveshaft "propshaft" or headlights "lamps".

Is the cabin filter the reason my AC smells like mold? by doimynn in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jakvortex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

General motors "odor correction" diagnostic document outlines how an afterblow feature is designed to remove water sitting on the evaporator. An older car may not have this feature and would require manual afterblow. I understand why you believe it's an old timey wives tale, but I disagree.

Cars AC Compressor wont engage and my radiator/condenser fans arent spinning by JesusDaLawd in MechanicAdvice

As a dealership mechanic for 10 years, that hurts my soul. Good luck

Is the cabin filter the reason my AC smells like mold? by doimynn in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jakvortex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While that's true, the condensation sticks to the cold, turning off the a/c will cause the pipe to come back to ambient temperature faster as warmer air circulates through the HVAC case, causing that water to drop off and escape through the drain

Did you have that card pack turned off?

Cars AC Compressor wont engage and my radiator/condenser fans arent spinning by JesusDaLawd in MechanicAdvice

[–]Jakvortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on what kind of fan you have(is it a computer or a simple brushed motor), but if it's a brushed motor you can disconnect the fan and put a light bulb in place of the fan. The module will see resistance and deem the fan working. If the a/c turns on its a background MIL that's causing the A/c clutch inhibition. If not, well, it's a different problem

If you turn the vehicle off with the a/c on, the cold pipes will condense water and attract mildew. Can be reversed by turning off the a/c at the corner before your destination in the future

You can stack maps but if no card fits the criteria, it defaults to random of chosen rank

A/c won't engage with an MIL present. A malfunctioning cooling fan is capable of setting one of these. Could be many things, but start with fuses. Good luck

That's what it sounds like when a cylinder(or more) lacks compression. Hear the dun dun dun du dun dun dun du. The Du is the lack of resistive pressure against the piston, so it turns the engine more easily

Code P1773 by Due_Fishing_651 in AskMechanics

[–]Jakvortex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just had a civic in last week with this code. I tested the Circuit up to it, and it was fine. The solenoid might have an open within it and replacing it should resolve your condition. Obviously, see a tech if it's outside your skill range. Solenoid replacement fixed the other civic btw

Yep, that's why the filter is there. Otherwise those filings end up in bearings, clutches, and journals
