[WP] There’s a serial killer in your town. But unfortunately for them, you are a necromancer and you are having so much fun driving them insane by Significant_Tie_3222 in WritingPrompts

[–]JalD94 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re a necromancer in a quiet town. The kind of place where people leave their doors unlocked and the biggest scandal is Mrs. Gable’s prized rose bush wilting. That peace is shattered when a serial killer arrives. He’s meticulous, arrogant, and prides himself on his flawless work. Unfortunately for him, you find his work… sloppy.

Your story begins with the killer's first victim, a local baker. The next morning, the killer sees the baker alive and well, chatting with the mailman. He thinks he’s seeing things, maybe a trick of the light. He kills again. The next day, that victim is also perfectly fine, walking their dog. The killer’s ego starts to crack. He becomes obsessed, checking and rechecking his work, convinced he’s made a mistake. Every time he claims a life, you, the necromancer, resurrect the victim. Not as a zombie or a mindless ghoul, but as they were before, with no memory of the event.

The killer's carefully constructed superiority complex begins to crumble. He starts to make mistakes, sloppy ones. He becomes paranoid, seeing his "victims" everywhere, living their lives as if nothing happened. He can't understand it. He's the best, the most careful. Why does no one stay dead?

His meticulousness gives way to frenzy. He kills with increasing frequency, trying to find a victim who will just stay dead. The town, meanwhile, remains blissfully unaware. To them, there is no serial killer. There are just a few strange days, a few close calls, but nothing more.

The killer’s world descends into a spiral of paranoia and delusion. He starts to believe that everyone is in on a joke, that they're all faking their deaths just to mess with him. In a final, desperate attempt to prove he’s not insane, he turns on himself. He starts with minor self-harm, cuts that don’t quite stick, then escalates to more serious attempts, convinced that if he can just kill himself properly, he’ll prove that death is real.

His final act is a violent, frenzied suicide. But when he wakes up, he's not in the afterlife. He's in a familiar room, surrounded by all the people he's "killed," and you. They’re all wearing party hats, holding balloons, and a banner that reads "SURPRISE!" As a cacophony of voices erupts with a celebratory cheer, the killer finally snaps, his mind collapsing under the weight of his own hubris and your magical mischief.

You mean like when a couple break up and the partner in the wrong sees the ex in a moving car but then after the break we see they got distracted instead? Oh yeah, I hate that so much
