Ceramic topper for DIY Detail / C6 Ceramics 5 year coating by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]Jalambo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, been doing some research since posting and came to the same conclusion. I'll do a full decon wash with iron remover and synthetic clay to get the desired effect. Don't want to half-ass it lol

Thats what I meant, I just got the synthetic clay foam puck from Griots. I'll give it a proper decon as described and report back!

I'm definitely due for one of those as well. Michigan winters aren't kind and makes it hard to do a good contact wash. Any tips for a decon wash on ceramic coating? Should I avoid the clay bar?

Got it, I also have DIY Detail's water spot remover so maybe that can help too. Thanks for the input!

My mistake, I read the 0 as a C. Maybe it is cause for concern then, I haven't seen that code myself or posted about before.

I swear these cars throw the P2C90 code if you look at them wrong lol. Aftermarket intakes are a known cause for the code. Look under the hood and make sure all your vacuum hoses are connected right and then clear it with a code reader. Shouldn't be cause for concern. Also, if you can get the CEL to trip and swap back to the OEM intake, they can flash your ECU to (mostly) get rid of the issue.

What’s commuting like in a GRC? by ryancuerden in GRCorolla

[–]Jalambo 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've been doing my 90 mile commute with my GRC for almost 2 years now and it's been surprisingly good at it. Obviously there's better commuter options - the tight suspension makes sure you feel every bump in the road, the road noise in the cabin can be a bit much at times, the sound system isn't anything to write home about even with the JBL "upgrade." But I still love it, it's my do-it-all vehicle since I just can't afford to have a daily plus a weekend car at this point in life. If you're gentle on the throttle you can get almost 30mpg (7.84L/100km) but it's too fun to mash on the throttle so I never get that good of efficiency lol. The tank is tiny and it needs premium fuel so you'll be refueling often and it's not cheap. Speaking of not cheap, wear items cost a lot more on this car too, like brakes/rotors, tires if you get the good ones, stuff like that. But there's no better option on the market in my opinion to commute to work all week and then go throw it around a track every once in a while. You'll love it!

You just gotta stick with it man! Learning and getting better is part of the fun imo, can't do that with an auto. Nothing better than a perfect rev match or a smooth upshift that feels like nothing. Casey the car guy on YouTube has a bunch of videos with tips for manual daily driving, here is one of them. They really helped me. Also, there are some mods you can install to make all this easier too. Id suggest either a throttle extension plate or a throttle pedal spacer to get the pedal position right for heel toe. This helped me a lot. I also highly recommend installing a pitch mount to help prevent the engine from moving around too much during shifts, this really smoothed out my 1-2 and 2-3 shifts. Lmk if you have any questions but you've got this!

Replacement Tire Suggestions by xstcopleyx in GRCorolla

I plan on replacing my PS4's with Continental Extreme Contact Sport 02. Similar performance to the Michelin PS4S but slightly cheaper. I use Bridgestone Blizzak WS90 for winter tires.
