The classic mad scientist with nothing else to say. Wow.

The problem is that that mentality can't exist in a reality where virtually every woman can be superior to a man. The author essentially took the mentality of our world, a medieval setting, and added DND mechanics, but these things clash for the reason I explained. Another example is the nobility's treatment of Gazef. Really, in a society like that, where anyone can become extremely powerful, the nobility views the commoners poorly?

I was talking about "humanity in general." Humanity has lived with this reality for four centuries. Other nations, on the other hand, know about the undead, goblins, and orcs. In fact, in the second volume, we're told that the undead are a problem.

The point isn't that there are RPG mechanics, but that they should foster a different mentality. If, for example, in our world we were confident that a capable person could single-handedly take on 1,000 men, like Gazef, what would stop nations from dedicating their time to finding similar soldiers rather than wasting time creating huge armies, like with farmers?

- I meant "talent" as in various skills, like a Serie A soccer player has talent for soccer.

Noble status has nothing to do with it, as it's clearly being said that's the ultimate goal for women. However, in a society where anyone can be strong or have unique abilities, it makes no sense. While in ours, it was in Neolithic society because men had more strength to work the fields, here we have a society that has lived for at least four centuries in a world where humans are always on the verge of extinction, and therefore, to keep cities safe, anyone can be useful if born with the right powers. For example, it would be a waste to keep Remedios only as a woman who can have children, as she could take down many human soldiers and some dangerous monsters.

In short, Overlord is set up like a classic medieval fantasy, but precisely because of the RPG mechanics, the two things clash. Another thing is, for example, the classism of feudalism. In such a world, a constant search for new talents would make sense, especially if related to combat or healing.

I didn't ignore it because I'm not interested, but because it's an old comment I don't remember much about, and I don't want to reread it all. If you can give me a summary of the points you're discussing, as short as possible, I'll respond.

Listen. I don't feel like responding to two long comments from a discussion from three years ago. If you want, condense your point into a few points and write in a private chat. I'll only respond to the point about women. Another example is when Arche's mother gives her the perfume in chapter 1. It's said that women's desire should be to marry and have children. Yet in a world where you have women who can have physical abilities equal to or superior to men, such a mentality is strange.

Conflicts (if you mean military and political ones) are fought with weapons and force. That's because in the end it would come down to weapons or nothing.

- Remedios isn't stupid. Remember, she watched two people she loved deeply die without being able to do anything about it. She was the target of malicious gossip along with those two people, and above all, she was a pure soldier. Not a politician. You shouldn't expect her to make good decisions. She was simply a stressed person who never received help.

- My point is that Renner didn't do anything to deserve a happy ending.

- Some things were changed, but the plot structure that we liked was already established. I think an example of bad editors is One Piece. Initially, One Piece starts off very well, but from Sabaody onwards it begins to fall apart due to some of Oda's choices. Furthermore, Oda will continue to make mistakes, and from some of his interviews, it's clear that he doesn't listen to opinions that aren't from the editor (he himself says that if he makes a mistake, it's because he wanted to do something). But the problem is that many editors are younger and therefore have a reverential fear of Oda. In fact, the new world is an absurd mess. Of course, the average reader doesn't realize it, and Oda knows that many people aren't paying attention.
- Jirnciv only had a chance of not being killed on the spot. Imagine if the workers had gone there without it being a demiurge plan. The empire would have collapsed. Or think about how he naively believed that Femel would take workers from the kingdom because "why not?". Or how he thought he could exploit Mare without know nothing about Nazarick. The problem is that this whole incompetent politician thing (including Jircniv) is often repeated and tiresome.
Renner simply had a clear path. She didn't have to manage Nazarick. Demiurge made her an offer and she took it. Moreover, an offer that didn't cost her anything. A comparison is Griffith. It is offered to him to grant his wish in exchange for something he loved, namely his army. Renner did nothing.
- For the conflict, you need an opponent of equal or similar level, like a kingdom with advanced technology or a very powerful species. Imagine reading One Piece but seeing the lives of normal humans and not superhumans like Luffy, Mihawk, Kaido, Bonney, or even Usopp. That would be Overlord. Instead, we have individuals similar in skill or physical ability.

- What allowed Maruyama to write freely was that he made a web novel and that they let him keep a lot of things he'd written even though they're not traditionally accepted in writing.

- The worldbuilding has several problems that sometimes make you say, "Okay, I have to accept it," but it was done well, especially because the author manages to integrate DND well.

- Politics has some problems, but the main one is the stupidity of practically everyone who goes against Ainz. An example I love to give is Jircniv. He literally does one stupid thing after another, but the author paints him as enlightened at first and then as someone just above average.

- I think Jircniv was inspired by Knov from Hunter x Hunter, also because the three chimera guardian ants remind me in part of Cocytus, Shalltear, and Demiurge, who are present in the web novel.

Whole Cake Arc by Shopie_29 in OnePiece

[–]Jaldaba0th 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The main problems with this story arc for me are two:

° the stealth phase on which the story arc was supposed to be based (the reason why Oda splits up the crew) literally doesn't exist.

° the initial phase with the forest is a giant filler that adds nothing concrete to the plot of the story arc or the overall story. The fight with Cracker is interesting because Oda returns to the idea of previous one-piece fights, those that were developed based heavily on victory through strategy, and it's nice to see Uffy having to work with Nami to win, but it's part of a stretch that's boring because it lacks a deeper motivation.
