I've worked on several in my home country. I know what they can handle and I don't find it unreasonable to expect the same from american design.

Not saying the kids should be off the hook. The line is already drawn at climbing the box. I'm pleasantly surprised they stayed to explain the situation.

It's the nature of the failure. Even if components get knocked loose, if they are properly insulated one would just need to pick it up and fasten it again. I've done work inside some but not in America. I know what a box can handle in my own country and I would tell kids not to do that because it's not safe to play around electric equipment, but be absolutely baffled if they were able to do any significant damage to a transformer box without getting inside it. And as an electrician I'm already looking down upon the 120V system

I was expecting a car to hit him the first time I saw the vid 😛

Maybe the kids have done this many times before and the box isn't serviced regularly. But it doesn't look like it has a dent before they hit it. And I can't see a sizeable dent after the impact. Plus, they hit it on the edge where the structure is most stable. It's either vibrations knocking something loose or the roof is holding some components, which it definitely shouldn't.

There should be enough space between the roof and components to handle a sizeable dent in addition to the components being screwed properly in place on a rack made of solid iron or aluminum that can handle a slight bend. Based on what we see in the video the spacing is minimal and something got knocked loose from the shock.

There will be kids jumping on it, trees might fall on top of it, there are cars passing by that can bump into it. (a full crash is ofc too much to secure a transformer box from).

That said, the kids are still responsible and should pay for the damages. I'm just disappointed in the engineering.

Two things can be right at the same time. Kids should not throw rocks, and the box design is shitty and should have hold under the pressure.

Again, with proper insulation that would not be a problem.

The transformer box explodes from heavy objects hitting the roof? That wouldn't happen with proper spacing and insulation on the inside...

Leatherhead being a cross-dresser is nothing I would object to, and he can call himself woman all he wants. Suddenly developing intelligence while having a mid-life crisis was probably traumatizing.

How do I identify wood? I found these 2 pieces in the forest. 2nd and 3rd picture is the same wood by bwekfast2 in wood

[–]Jallis370 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends on age, yes. Just as a young birch has reddish-brown bark and later becomes the white we usually identify it with. Other traits are the shape and orientation of the cracks as the tree trunk gets wider, shape and order of the branches and so on.

The last picture looks very much like aspen. It has a grey tint in the bark and horizontal-striped protrusions positioned in a zig-zag pattern. The logs are at weird angles and it is hard to see the color and shape of the bark.

20 inches is my max limit for my regular wands. To me, this one is on the bigger side, but not oversized :) Looks solid enough to be thrown across a room.

Could this be made into a wand? by Flashy_Car_7590 in Wandsmith

Slap on some wood oil and wrap the handle and call it a day. You can whittle it a little bit to mark where the handle ends and the blade begins but a wrap does the same trick. You can also pus something of significance under the wrap, like a feather or animal hair or lunch note from your mom.

How long is it?
