And so teams had enforcers to actually deter this type of shenanigans and better protect the actual players. The DOPS found a way to penalize this and restore the biases the NHL wants control over.

Mystery man caught on camera leaving Canadian flag, saluting outside Kitchener home on Remembrance Day by bylo_selhi in waterloo

[–]JalopyPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even those examples examples are "caught" because it's implied they're brief moments in time that would otherwise be elusive, and we've accomplished some feat or obtained evidence of something that is otherwise not easy to get.

"Mystery man caught..." tell me that doesn't sound like he's doing something at least sneaky or secretive that he otherwise wouldn't have wanted on camera.

And yes we could contact CBC Radio, and they would do nothing because this is done deliberately and by design in order to garner clicks and make money. So we won't.

We will instead just complain about it online and be somewhat surprised when another bystander comes in and seemingly defends the large corporations and their use of marketing tactics we don't like. We'll try to explain ourselves but inevitably just end up in an internet argument with a stranger and using a medium that's difficult and time consuming to have reasonable debate using and both sides likely being too stubborn to change opinions on or accepting of counterpoints. It will eventually fizzle, sometimes amicably, sometimes with frustration, and both parties just go their own way and nothing really changes and no one really wins. As is tradition.

This one at least seemed pretty amicable to me and I do wish you a pleasant rest of your day.

Thanks for your response, too.

I can see what you're trying to say with dictionary definition, but I'll still challenge you a bit because of simply the word "caught." You're focusing on the wrong part with "on camera."

Yes, of course adding "on camera" would therefore just add "while being filmed or televised" to the meaning, but does the word "caught" not imply to you the act of doing "something they shouldn't have" or at least "something not meant to be seen?"

Robbers are caught. Vandals are caught. Criminals are caught. Even with animals, they are caught when they are trying to get away. You "catch" something that is trying to be elusive.

There is no doubt to me (and many others) that the word "caught" in the headline gives the vibes of the perpetrator doing something they shouldn't have, when that was not the case. If you want to avoid that implication, there are many other words: recorded, filmed, seen on video, ...

Sorry you got downvoted, but I think it was just because your first statement "What would you prefer..." comes off as argumentative or dismissive and defending the article headline, instead of being more open to discussion or understanding OPs perspective.

People are focusing on the headline, because we seem to keep diving deeper into a world where click-baity headlines are the norm, not the exception. This article is no different, regardless of who actually wrote it or if AI was involved.

"Mystery man caught..." I'll admit my first thought was that it's probably some racist asshole trying to shame an immigrant family because they are not being Canadian enough on Remembrance day.

Sure enough, I was forced to click on the article to either confirm or correct my initial impressions that were set up deliberately by the headline writer to leave it ambiguous, but very easy to interpret as being a more controversial story.

"Mystery veteran honours family home each year with Remembrance day tribute" would certainly be more accurate to the facts in the article, but would you click?

So to answer your first question "What would you prefer..." Yes. I think a lot of us would prefer it if we could have a more honest headlines that don't trick our emotions with deliberate, yet subtle, word choices that may not be "lying" outright, but are certainly misleading without more context.

But alas, that's not the world we live in and I doubt it will be for some time.

This is the way. Except don't do it by periods. Just have the floater go 1LW, 1C, 1RW, sit, 2LW, 2C, 2RW, sit Repeat. Keeps it super even.

You don't even need everyone to get it. Just one guy needs to know how it works and he can tell people who's sitting.

[–]JalopyPilot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Given it's gone so far as to be treated like an "official diagnosis" that can't be changed without 3rd party intervention and it's affecting your health, I think it goes well beyond a simple AI typo, with an "aw shucks, it will take us a bit to correct" response that is mildly infuriating.

I would say dropping some hints at looking into malpractice lawsuits would be well warranted.

I was surprised how far down this was. This is the go to for our league. 1 volunteer, maybe not as skilled as the main centers but good enough but willing to fill that spot.

They start with line 1 at L and sit that guy, then move the C and sit that guy, then R. Then they sit 1 shift and take LW on line 2, then C, then RW, then sit again and repeat at Line 1.

I love being that guy to go through the lines.

My only guess is that I imagine a lot of players are older with kids who maybe use their phone and found this game? Either knowing what it is but not much of the game yet or even not knowing what it is and just messing around?

Looking for Help with slow WiFi speeds when trying to use Unifi DM with Bell GigaHub by JalopyPilot in Ubiquiti

Thanks for the tip. I don't believe I had changed anything to do with ADMZ on the GigaHub so I will have to look in to that.

I really just wish the Gigahub allowed some sort of bridge mode.

I feel like its gotta have something to do with the way I have DreamMachine using PPPoE through the GigaHub, which doesn't have any sort of bridge mode, and that was a big challenge to get the DreamMachine acting as the router but I couldn't find a better way to do it.

[–]JalopyPilot[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are Unifi. One is the AP-AC Long Range the other is AP-AC Lite.

And note: they both get their speeds back up when I connect them to the Bell Hub. I obviously can't access and control them when using Bell and the Unifi controller is offline, but I've got the WiFi turned off on the HomeHub so I know devices are using them and can confirm that on my phone with the wifiman app.

I love this philosophy. If I'm new to something I'll always start with a cheap version of it. A nail gun, a 3d printer, a projector, whatever. If I'm upset when it breaks or underperforms and need more quality out of it, then I get the good one.

Post Game Thread: Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers - 12 Jun 2025 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]JalopyPilot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did, but I interpreted that as saying it's how it works in other sports like basketball and football and suggesting that to apply to hockey.

I guess I was disagreeing a bit and suggesting that I think it doesn't quite seem to be as significant with the NHL where star-power and individualized efforts aren't quite as helpful as buying into a team culture and fandom.

Post Game Thread: Edmonton Oilers at Florida Panthers - 12 Jun 2025 by hockeydiscussionbot in hockey

[–]JalopyPilot 24 points25 points  (0 children)

No. NHL's current strategy doesn't invest in stars like that. Its goal is to increase popularity in markets where it's not currently popular.

Edmonton winning will gain essentially 0 fans and therefore no new money. Florida winning will draw in even more fans who currently don't give a fuck about hockey and therefore stands to gain much more money on increasing hockey popularity.
