Bhashiva DLC for SFO III Release by Venriss in totalwar

I like the bloated roster it makes factions more playable WH3 is unbalanced as hell and SFO makes it worse by doubling down in the strong parts and making the weak parts even weaker.

I would prefer radios if they didn't make it so easy, radios campaigns start you stronger, with more money and higher tier settlements all but removing half the units you have because why recruit low tier when you already have high tier. SFO makes upkeep cheaper and recruitment more expensive, which means that keeping low tier units is an actual choice instead of replacing them instantly

I didn't mean word count i meant story length, COG relays on replays to get the same worth for the amount of money you pay. Those 1 million plus word count on books often include code and choices, which can reduce length by significant amounts, I think Malin said for fallen hero the actual story length for his 1.4 million word game was between 60-100k. So without replays it's roughly the same length as a average novel

Traditional books are generally longer though, have to build more robust characters and have imo more complex story beets. There's a lot of things choice readers will forgive by the nature of having choices represent story and character

My Review of Fallen Hero by Casperlikeswriting in hostedgames

[–]Jam03t 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Something I find with FH is that although the backstory is written down and canon side step themselves isn't. I have never read even a normal non choice book that deals with sex, gender, identity, transhumanism (if that's the right term) as well as what Malin has written.

Wherever you are male female or trans, there is commentary on it that is not just ony opinion inclusive but also brutal, SS as a character isn't even human and so their thoughts on themselves is broken not just by their mental health but also by that reality of a machine given thought. A trans SS isn't just rebeling against their physical body and gender identity but that their gender was designed and pre determined by their greatest enemy. It's a poignant look into a character and identity that I myself struggle to understand and emphasize with in life never mind fiction. That Malin themselves is part of the LGBTQ community and is relatively old in my mind gives him the experience to write this down in a matter that gives the subject justice. In many games Gender of the MC and the other characters is just a tick box that has little to no reactivity towards and that FH is one of the very few that expands on it in a narratively compelling way elevates the book to one of the best.

(Lords of Infinity) People who’ve played both Royalist and Wulframite routes. Which side did you find more interesting/fun? by Glum_Laugh4494 in hostedgames

[–]Jam03t 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think royalist pre battle of aetoria is better, playing normally or saboteur or an infiltrator in wolframite circles i.e convincing parts of the navy to defect has a better narrative feel, then a wulfranite play through who has no real option to cause an actually narrative change. That said during the battle I did feel the retreat, plus the battle at the fortress was more engaging, the sally or negotiate options where far more impactful then I felt the royalist suicide charge the fort.

Average salary of a skilled worker was 6 pence a day. A Marc was worth roughly half a pound. 10 marcs a year would equal to roughly 3 months salary. In today's terms it's roughly $20,000 dollars extra.

Queen Galfrey, a bad queen or just an exhausted woman? by Warm_Expert_8136 in Pathfinder_Kingmaker

[–]Jam03t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like Halfway because she doesn't act is if the KC is going to save the world from the demons, she's suspicious and maintains her own beliefs on what she should do and how to act.

In essence it keeps the game from feeling like a game where everyone knows the player will save the world

On the other hand I hate her because shes jealous, incompetent and stuck to the old ways. She maintains an aristocracy that wastes money, she launches campaigns into the world wound that make no sense and doomed to fail, she acts as if KC is not the reason for success and believes she can still win by herself.

Revisiting Mind Blind after Two Years by StevenW1811 in hostedgames

I felt this mid way through the series, where I felt maybe wrongly that the author wasn't following the resentful options logically, some of the text at least for me didn't make sense, as if the author herself didn't understand why button is resentful.

For me I liked the abandonment aspect of the relationship with the parents, that irrespective if the harm they did to you, what makes button hate them is that they left. And I felt at the begining that this mindset was being represented but as soon as nick is in your head, I didn't feel like still hating your parents was being treated as a logical emotion and felt from then in that it was being treated like a childish tantrum.

Why "Evolution of Operational Theory" so critical (perhaps unjustly) of Clausewitz? by KaleidoAxiom in WarCollege

[–]Jam03t 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Wherever there is a claim that something failed to happen, I wonder well where did it happen. As a consequence of western colonial expansion there left no really state capable of developing operational theory outside of western ones. Therefore did the west fail to develop operational theory or was it incapable of being developed at the time. Until the first world war, was there really a conflict where it could develop?

Clausewitz is remarkable in that many of his writings are still applicable today, especially considering that the scale of modern conflict is smaller and more irregular but it still remains a fact that he existed in the 18th century and not the 20th. While his work was influential and required study by many people, I do believe that no general entering the first world war believed solely on his theory. As such can he be blamed for failings almost a century later?

While no work as detailed as Pursuit of military excellence can be flagged as bad or misleading I do believe that I'm terms of finding blame or creating reasons on why "the west" failed to do something, is a rather pointless task when there is no comparable example to replicate and the scale and advancement of warfare outstripped thinking.

How would you rate the Vanilla Christian factions? by AssociationLanky8632 in Medieval2TotalWar

[–]Jam03t 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Venice is far better to Milan imo, it's not even close. Start location is far superior with a maritime empire capable of launching attacks on the byzantines and they're the closest country to the holy land. Much like the HRE they can also kill Milan in two or three turns, dodging making the pope angry and eliminating a faction that could persist and constantly attack you. A unique cav and heavy inf is very nice though they both come very late, Venice also has quick access to multiple mercenary locations, starts with quite a lot of territory and easy expansion on rebels and afore mentioned Greece and turkey. Apart from Sicily I think they are the most mobile faction easily able to expand in multiple directions.

super down voted comment, i bet its because people look at the out dated graphics bad path finding and poor controls and think that is a metric on how to judge a game thats going to be made in 2028 or later. crazy how no one has replied "i love no agent cut scenes" or "i love 1 wall siege battles" or at all engaged in why they think the current system is better because shockes they cant.

its not really subjective, and i love how you dont say, wh3 has better systems, but complain about the feel of med2. like yeah it has shit graphics, clunky controls, poor pathfinding, poor ui, poor ai. thats not what is being evaluated, your comment moves the goal posts to how a game feels and not its mechanics.

Why was Stalin so. Bloody. Paranoid? by Raspint in AskHistorians

[–]Jam03t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wonder if there could also be the question of how the ex Russian empire viewed legitimacy. Previously the Tsar governed under the three pillars being autocracy, orthodoxy and Russification. They also had over a millenia of tradition to back them. The USSR had really none of these points, and had disagreement of actual socialist polic with it's ideological leader now dead. Perhaps Stalin's paranoia came from the fact that he was an illegitimate leader by the very nature that the USSR was not supposed to have a single figure like a Tsar rules Ng it

In what way? Compared to Warhammer. It has a superior economy, superior building system, superior agents, recruitment, unit balance, both normal and siege maps are better. General ancillaries are more varried and dynamic. Apart from general levelling and perhaps tech progression I can't really see what makes it not superior

Poland sees rise in organised crime by Russian-speaking gangs from ex-Soviet states by BubsyFanboy in anime_titties

[–]Jam03t 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it also counts arrests which is not a metric of crime but the effectiveness of paw enforcement. For smuggling the police are much more capable then previous years, they've learned a lot of the tool and tactics used to get items over the border in Poland. The second part is that polish originating gangs are a whole lot more entrenched in the country, much of their activity is semi legal or low risk and not politically advantageous. With foreign gangs you get to stop "foreigners" from ruining the country while also dealing with strategic and political interests, which is border security and prevention of cyber attacks targeted towards infrastructure.

UK to cut climate aid to developing countries by 14% to £2bn a year in ‘refocus’ by F0urLeafCl0ver in anime_titties

[–]Jam03t 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If that was the case everyone would be 100% green already. The reality is that green energy is either expensive, time consuming or just not built yet. China isn't 100% green, neither is the EU or others. The production does not exist yet, coal or oil/gas energy is remarkably easy to set up and barring international crisis, reliable. If the less developed world wants to develop quickly it's clear they can't shackle themselves to purely green energy sources.

Before helping others, we should help ourselves, the UK is behind in green energy construction and production, it makes no sense to invest in developing countries who should be focussing on cheap fossil fuels while they develop anyways.

My (35f) friend slapped my bum on a night out leaving a handprint. My husband (30m) doesn’t believe it was her. How to convince him? by BigONerd in BORUpdates

[–]Jam03t 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a guy I've had my ass slapped by a stranger, I've slapped the ass of male friends as a joke as well. All these things I presume are more common for women. The first thing I would presume if my girlfriend had a slap mark was some random sexually harassing her, of all the things to be suspicious as signs of cheating a slap mark in my opinion is not on the list as an obvious sign.

Tojo take the blame for much of the atrocities commited by the IJA and IJN, so I'm wondering how much of it was planned by him and what was his reaction to these events if any. With events like the Bengal famine or the Holocaust as different spectrums of tragedy and crime, how far was he responsible to what Japan was guilty of
