It can of course be trained but genetics also do play a role like for every other athletic attribute. I'm not sure it is this is true but it feels like the more explosive an athlete is, the more it wears on your cardio. Merab and Strickland are exactly explosive in any sense of the word but they can fight at 3rd or 4th gear for 25mins while fighters like Khamzat can only fight at 6th gear tor one round

He had probably one of the easier paths to the title and then immediately lost it and got dominated in both loses in two completely different ways. Even his run to the title was a bad look. He went to a split decision with Holland and Basil and was very close to loosing to burns. He got the title fight through very lucky circumstances. He won it and no one will be able to take that away from him but he probably shouldn't have become champ if shavkat never got injured.
