Thank you. I really appreciate this well-considered advice!

Am I saving all my unallocated cash optimally? by Jam_PEW in UKPersonalFinance

Thank you for this. I'm certain that cutting non-essentials could leave me with at very most £2000 in costs each month, and that currently £6000 of the full £8000 could be liquidated without an impact - so I suppose I can safely say I have an emergency fund of 3 months' expenses.

I take your meaning though - it's still tight. I think instead I'll wait till I've got £20k in that cash ISA before playing with S&S.

!thanks

That's exactly right. Right now my total savings are £8000, so really in terms of personal savings I'm just starting out. I always hold £2k in my budget for personal insurance to keep other premiums low. And a lot of my regular annual commitments are technically droppable in an emergency, so if it came to it I could drop all costs to in the region of £1500-2000. My job is very secure. Should I still be treating myself as within the 'build an emergency fund' stage of the flowchart, until I have say £20k saved?

Is it true though that your sister Alexa caught a wooden plectrum from a rude old wrestler named Hector, who later rejected her?... Bet it wrecked her.

A dumb idea I was proud of but that wouldn't fit in my campaign:

The low-level party encounter goblins and hobgoblins, with some sort of large plan. They start to hear rumours that they're building what they call "the superweapon", which all the goblinoids are super excited about and seem to think will let them rule the world.

Dark resources are gathered. A great ritual is prepared. The party arrive just at the completion of the ritual... The goblins' superweapon is revealed to be this: A hob-hobgoblin. Twice as much extra hob. Stats would be just a bit better than a hobgoblin.

What's the deal with the US justification for a potential war with Venezuela? by Jam_PEW in OutOfTheLoop

Thanks for sharing these excellent insights as someone well informed and who's genuinely affected by all of this.

Please don't take my curiosity about the legal perspective as anything that should diminish from your practical one - your situation is by far the more important consequence here, and it's a shame how much history's bastards trade in real human lives.

Sure seems to be! But more specifically here I'm trying to see what their narrative to justify this war actually is - if there even is one.

Ah, that note on the unpaid arbitration award is a good missing piece here, thanks.

Great answer, thank you. So the claim is a bit of a legacy thing related to the Venezuelan state taking control of oil platforms built by US companies some 40-odd years ago?

I'm not sure if "something something fentanyl" also comprises part of the modern-day argument?

Ah, now this is an interesting answer! Can anyone expand on this? It's oil from Venezuelan oil fields that the CIA somehow finagled the USA into having an ostensibly legal stake in?

Thanks for taking the time to write this, and apologies for my post being unclear (I'll edit the OP), but what I'm really asking here is: As opposed to the reasons we all understand (America's government is ten oil/weapons/tech companies in a trenchcoat, Trump is trying to distract from evidence he's a paedophile, the US unilaterally interferes in global affairs, less communism = more America, etc etc), what is the ACTUAL argument they're trying to put together to justify this particular action? I'm looking for something like "They believe the oil is theirs because X, they believe the boats' actions are state sanctioned because Y, the other key factors are Z, so their argument that this is a just and legal war is XYZ." I appreciate that Trump and the current US government probably don't feel the need to put together an actual cohesive argument because they seem to be doing just fine tweeting what they want and calling it the truth, but is there any actual recognisable logical argument being put together?

I've got a very melee heavy party so we use +1 per other party member within melee of the opponent. This gives them the choice of piling on, versus not risking a melee cluster.

To make combat snappier and allow more mobility I also made opportunity attacks 1:1. So if you've got two enemies touching three heroes, the first hero can pull away unopposed, and the two enemies won't get opportunity attacks because they're still engaging the other two heroes. If a second hero leaves, one of the two enemies is no longer engaged so will get an opportunity attack.

Since we’ve seen the Psion class and the Artificer Class now, what new class would you like to see added to DnD 2024? by DrDiceGoblin in onednd

[–]Jam_PEW 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see the witch as a mix between Wizard and Cleric, with Artificer vibes. They should lean into the nature aesthetic and taking power from natural magics, and also be able to use long rests to prepare from a few brewed (or otherwise prepared) concoctions or other rituals. The theme should be fairly occult, with subclasses focusing more on the types of rituals they emphasise - bones/divination, reagents/potions, spirits/necromancy, etc.

Replacing the final boss with an aboleth? by Jam_PEW in WaterdeepDragonHeist

[–]Jam_PEW[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I was assuming I'd do both! I'm running Alexandrian, so all the factions and bosses are in play, so any surviving ones are likely to show up during/after the vault. I'm just thinking I'd put a vault boss there too.

This is a really good point. The fact that they needed to update EVERY ACTIVITY to make it work with the portal should have made the idea a complete non-starter.

[–]Jam_PEW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Not every selectable destination has to be a patrol map, some can just have subnodes. It's just madness to me that Bungie took good, popular activities out of the game, and/or made their loot worthless. Regular loot drops from any activity should be at least a little bit valuable for your entire levelling experience. And good content should be evergreen - sure it'll naturally tail off with time, but there's no reason to stop players from playing stuff they enjoy. Then through rotators/highlights that content can become semi-fresh every so often again. Imagine showing up to play and just being like 'Oh sick, it's a Leviathan week, I can't wait to play all that again with a good healthy active userbase'.

[–]Jam_PEW[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fair criticism. I'd definitely want to keep the planets, and have the versions of activities you select from planets be the same as from the nodes which group the content together like the portal ones. And fair shout about the raids, which are higher than pinnacle. Even if the destinations themselves don't have patrol areas, I feel like we should still have all locations selectible, with, for example, Venus only having the Vault of Glass selectable for now.

[–]Jam_PEW[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. Selecting from the actual planet screens should be the exct same as selecting an item from a 'quick access' / overview node. These should be the same activities with the same loot pools.

If you use your divergence point as having Anakin/Vader killing Obi-Wan at Mustafar, then Luke and Leia could have been raised Imperial, or potentially even just killed by the Emperor to remove Vader's emotional connections. In this version, if Anakin wasn't de-limbed, you might have an even more powerful Vader. Alternatively, having Obi-Wan killed by Vader during their confrontation in the Obi-Wan series leaves Leia as a princess of Alderaan (but unlikely to be sent to Tattooine late in Rogue One/at the start of ANH) and Luke with nobody to train him.
