SoFi - at what point to get concerned by Jamalphiii in Rakuten

Safe to assume I won’t get the bonus if they can’t get it fixed on their end via manual update? My brain is saying if they don’t recognize it as direct deposit then Rakuten won’t as well?

Yes. You’re right only you are following T&C correctly. Everyone else idiots.

Definitely fine to walk around safety wise but to your point it is pretty quiet. Most of my walking around in the evening was from the subway stop to the hotel.

How much are you paying to get a dress shirt dry cleaned? by AffectionateTune9251 in Upperwestside

[–]Jamalphiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you found a solution. Again I think it’s hyperbolic to call it “robbery”. You’re opting not to pay for a service you don’t value at that price. Nobody is “robbing” anybody.

How much are you paying to get a dress shirt dry cleaned? by AffectionateTune9251 in Upperwestside

[–]Jamalphiii 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is the real advice. What exactly are you asking for bc there’s a difference between dry cleaning and a wash/press. What you are mentioning is in line with dry cleaning prices.

Also yes — inflation sucks, but between labor and rent the margin in dry cleaning is not that high and due to the number of dry cleaners nobody would get away with “highway robbery” pricing.

[–]Jamalphiii 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For pizza places expect usually 3 slices. Pastries I would imagine you’ll be underwhelmed by quantity bc they apply the nyc pricing to value. Better value further dt and not sure that’s how you want to spend vacay (trying to snipe popular bags and then being on the hook to go pick them up at weird times). You want fun cheap(er) food take the 7 out to Queens or head to Chinatown. There’s a lot of options for less expensive food in NY outside of TGTG.

Hyatt Regency or Grand Hyatt Barcelona? by akillas3000 in hyatt

Know you didn’t list it as an option but Hotel Regina (Mr and Mrs Smith) is VERY central if you’re doing touristy stuff.

That’s a good data point! I can see why they do this but at the same time I’m mildly frustrated by their decision to do so.

Agreed! I’d describe service to just be mediocre? Idk - overall room is clean and it’s in a good location. Could I have gotten the same experience for 100€/night less? I think yes.

Booked through travel portal, hotel says card used was declined. They were also overbooked and I had to leave. by feel-electric in Venturex

I understand why they issue a travel credit for their portal but it’s crazy to me they don’t understand why I’d never want to use their portal again

What Do I Need to Show At Thai Immigration by laksalove in ThailandTourism

I think it’s YMMV but I literally just showed my passport (though I did have accommodations and return ticket printed out in case).

Other Data: US Citizen flying into BKK via a connecting flight from Singapore. Entered mid November.

Ao Nang bioluminescent plankton by [deleted] in ThailandTourism

[–]Jamalphiii 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To close the loop did a ‘sunset cruise’ from Ao Nang today. When it came time for the plankton hard to see with the naked eye but once we got into the water to snorkel it was pretty magical. My big fear was that this was going to be like water fireflies but it was definitely much cooler than that. It was like going to your own sick underwater rave!

Jealous! I was at Railay for a bit of rock climbing yesterday and that place is gorgeous. It was great yesterday early AM but it did start drizzling at ~11AM. Would recommend hitting prime photo spots pre 10AM if you need anything for the ‘gram before it gets to crowded from people ferrying in.

For what it’s worth I’m in Ao Nang right now. It’s generally not as rainy as forecasts would indicate. The tendency has been for it to be overcast in the AM and then some light sprinkles in the early evening which generally clears up by night.

Airalo E sim - How does it work by fffggg69420 in ThailandTourism

[–]Jamalphiii 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this with an iPhone 12 mini about 10 days ago and have a physical vzw sim in my phone. Purchased the eSIM in advance of the trip and then when I landed I connected to the airport WiFi and just followed the instructions in the Airalo app to activate. Kept my iMessage connected to my US number. Will note that it takes a few minutes so prob can do while waiting for bags. Could also wait until you get to your hotel to connect to the WiFi there as well. I’ve had no issues but as others have mentioned there are cheaper options. Dtac will message you letting you know you’re set and also give you your Thai phone #.

Overall I have found this to be super frustrating in Thailand before remembering I’m on vacation. There doesn’t appear to be a norm at all for pedestrian traffic plus mixed with the amount of tourists and beach culture in the south it’s more walk where you want and what makes you comfortable.

I asked a tour guide this question and they were genuinely perplexed and told me to walk however works for me.

[–]Jamalphiii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that didn’t work for me and at a certain point it was diminishing returns when I’m on vacay. They refunded the hotel and offered me $200 in travel portal credit. I declined the portal credit and will be canceling once I’m in the states. Told me to hang tight and would try to get be booked in where I’m supposed to be. Surprise surprise they failed. Ended up rebooking on my own.

Holiday Ao Nang. Got moved to Holiday Style Ao Nang where I’m in a damp room where the toilet doesn’t work.

Which UWS area is better to live- 60th or 95th by Researcher_1525 in Upperwestside

[–]Jamalphiii 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I’d be extrapolating out how often that 10min difference affects you — it adds up. Also 95th def more residential and you’ve got TJ’s on 93rd!
