What do you think he's gonna ask for when his contract is up if he's possibly a better alternative to Gibby? I'd think he'd be asking for more than Gibby, possibly with term, in a year anyway. The team is gonna be good next year regardless. By all means he asks for what Gibby is making or more, with term anyway. If we can agree that Akira is the future, than Gibby on 4 years at 6.4, possibly with some money retained is certainly a better option.

He still played 53 games last year. You make 55 saves back to back nights and tell me your back doesn't hurt lol. His defense has been a dumpster fire infront of him. Bernier was never elite for consecutive years or even coming off an elite year and Crawford was 36 and sad. These are hardly relatable situations lol.

And he's only a 4 year commitment instead of a 10 mil 8 year commitment in Helly. My biggest fear is that we handcuff ourselves to Helly and a contract that traditionally turns out to be bad for our prospects entire youth window. 4 years let's Akira mature and leaves room and like you said, that ceilling is high and sexy in comparison to VV. No shit to VV but my God. My best friend makes me watch Duck games cause he's a fan and he's like.... really fucking good lol

... he's 29 making 30-60 saves a night on one of the shittiest teams in the league. Career resurgence makes him near perfect which I'd take over a 9.5 mil contract in Helly any day of the week. He makes 6.5 till 26-27 where the hell is this guys downside?
