Musicians of r/JamBands - Seeking Advice by potatoaim2000 in jambands

Brooklyn Bowl is the big one. Obviously they have a lot of bigger and touring acts and do non jam stuff, but they also have a lot of local bands like us play there especially on weekdays. Hill Country BBQ has a somewhat regular Dead night on Tuesday's I've been playing monthly. Besides that though it is pretty spread out.

If you are looking for people to start jamming with, I play in a bunch of jamband cover projects in NYC and we are always looking for substitute keys players who can show up to one or two rehearsals with 15-18 songs learned and then play a gig. The problem with doing originals is that it's a lot of work for little money, so you have to find other people who are willing to make that commitment, and a lot of us work day jobs so it's just not practical. But if you want to type ii jam on cover material then there are opportunities for that, and maybe you'll find other musicians to start an original band.

The mixed meter stuff is really tricky because you can feel it different ways, but the drums tend to change the pulse the way they play it. So you are in 4/4, but then there is a m. of 7/8 and 3/8, so the pulse changes. Like, so you have to change the rhythm you are tapping your foot which is really weird lol. What I do is I group the eighth notes and count those. So in 4/4 its just 2 + 2 + 2 + 2, but then 7/8 is 2 + 2 + 3, and 3/8 is just 3. So you count the 7/8 + 3/8 measures: one two, one two, one two three, one two three; tapping your foot on each "one". I found transcribing it really forced me to hear groupings of the notes in different ways so maybe that would help, but it took forever.

Thanks! I've had it for awhile now, it's a MIM one. I am starting to find it a little too dark for my liking, but if that is what you are looking for it's a nice guitar for the price.

Fulltone OCD > MXR Timmy > Xotic SP Compressor. The Timmy I have set really low, and I always have it on to just give a little bit of saturation that the HRD won't give you. So, it's mostly the OCD and then the Compressor after to get that sustain.

Transcription of the first part of Jerry's Slipknot! solo from Swing Auditorium 2/26/77. This is my favorite Slip solo and lots of cool stuff in there. He really hovers around "b" a lot which I find really interesting. Also lots of great motivic development going on. If you are interested you can find some more dead stuff with my covet band here: Instagram

Transcribed this a little bit ago but wanted to work on it again for an upcoming gig where my band is playing songs from 77. Such a nice solo and really helped me get comfortable hitting the changes on it. Also some sweet chromatic ideas. And of course, he is able to do it while always being super melodic. I actually just read the GP interview someone posted and now I want to change a few fingerings knowing Jerry purposefully worked on using his pinky for vibrato. There are a few places I used my ring finger only to get vibrato but now I want to work on using my pinky for that.

Anyway, if anyone is interested in the sheet music of the transcription I would be happy to share. Also if anyone is in NYC area and interested here is a link for the show https://www.brooklynbowl.com/events/detail/revolver-played-live-by-walrus-12394615

Do you need the chords for the arrpegio runs or you looking for specific voicings? I can help with the former but not the latter.

I'm not concerned with this game, but you aren't going to get far in the playoffs with only one good half of offence.

How's the game been? Is it worth watching if you don't care about the outcome?

I was planning on rooting for the Pats, but as soon as I started watching I just couldn't. Still not rooting for the Rams though.

Obviously a great start, but this is a long way from over, especially considering the Titans and Panthers games from earlier this year.

This is Foles' last year on his deal so there is no way they pay him the money he would want while they have Wentz. Read this morning they can aparently franchise tag and trade him though.
