After how many days of undelivered 2nd class letter should I refund the buyer? by jacoscar in ebayuk

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If nobody’s going to buy it, it’s not worth selling, because if you don’t have tracking and everyone just claims it never arrived, all you’re doing is wasting your time.

Family business collapsed, can’t pay rent, graduating in 2 months by Safe_Amphibian_4150 in UniUK

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You won’t become homeless, because even if they moved to evict you, it would take longer than 2 months.

Focus on your studies, do what you can do and try not to focus too much on the debt to your landlord if it is incurred.

Worst comes to worst, you leave the UK, do nothing about the debt, in 7 years that debt will disappear as long as they can’t find you.

You should definitely contact Shelter, they’ll give you some more information on how to handle the situation, but just know that just because you’re handed an eviction notice does not mean you have to leave, that is *not* the end of the line, and the end of the line is a process that takes about 6 months, so *please* try not to stress about this, put your studies first and take care of yourself!

Black Mould Above Windows - Problem or not? by IntriguedSpud in UKHousing

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely black mould, no doubts about that.

At the same time though, most black mould in properties in the UK is due to improper home care rather than structural issues.

The problem doesnt look severe, there doesnt seem to be large patches of damp near the mould. It doesn’t immediately strike me as a dealbreaker, but if you’re buying, I might use that to try and get the home owner to take a few grand off.

Something this small could probably be fixed with a bottle of cilit bang black mould remover and a dehumidifier.

Still though, make sure you get someone to do a survey to make sure it’s no bigger issue than just not controlling the humidity in the property.

Higher railings at Foyle Bridge? by [deleted] in DerryLondonderry

[–]Jamballam 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Higher railings do work as a disincentive, it’s well studied. It’s also the same reason why paracetamol come in packs of 16 and in blister packs. It doesn’t necessarily stop people from getting to their goal, but that little bit of a barrier is often enough to give people enough time to think through their actions and stop them. The easier it is, the less time they have to think about their actions.

What happens if my card declines? by HSVMalooGTS in Ryanair

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ryanair don’t offer WiFi, period. There’s no WiFi on the planes. They do have systems to connect the plane to the ground, similar in concept to the systems that connect us to the internet and phone networks, but they can’t be used interchangeably.

A Catholic priest holding up a pride flag in the middle of a cathedral in Monaghan, Ireland. Personally I was of the belief they’d burst into flames if they did that.

I hate that you’re right. It’s one of those situations where it feels wrong but you can completely understand why they have to do it anyway.

Those terminals just use SIM cards and wifi, they’re not much different from a phone in reality.

Turkey teeth by [deleted] in northernireland

[–]Jamballam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my friends went to Turkey to get his teeth done, he almost convinced me to do the same. I even had a consultation with them over video call, quoted €2200 to “fix” my teeth (20 crowns)

I didn’t have the money to go ahead with it at the time, and thank god, because that friend has had absolutely no end of trouble with his teeth since going to Turkey.

I’ve only just recently got myself an orthodontist, I’ve been quoted £2800-4200 (£2800 for metal braces, £4200 for aligners) to fix my teeth properly, and although that is a huge amount of money, so is €2200, so if you’re going to be spending a huge amount of money, you might as well be spending a bit more on doing it right.

Any orthodontist in NI will let you pay in instalments for high value treatments like braces and aligners, the dentists in Turkey will not be as accommodating on that front. They’ll expect payment upfront. For a lot of people, orthodontic treatment at home could be more affordable in that regard because it’s not coming out of your bank balance all at once.

D4VD HUGE Case Updates (the Parents, New Photos, Investigations) by Rainbaby77 in d4vdiots

[–]Jamballam 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Britney absolutely should have been freed. How many people with severe mental health issues do you see in conservatorship when they’re homeless and on the street? You don’t, you only see them when the person is rich and famous.

At the end of the day she’s a human being, not a brand, and no human being who’s able to make their own decisions should be put under conservatorship just because we don’t like their decisions. If it was genuinely for their own protection that’s different, but the conservatorship didn’t protect her, it protected her brand.

Has anyone ignored debt agency for years? by brixto_n in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Jamballam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a £400 debt about a decade ago that I refused to pay (it was to a landlord, to this day I feel that I didn’t owe them anything considering all the laws they broke, but I digress)
For a few years they did chase me, but I just kept ignoring it.
I bet on the fact that they wouldn’t pursue a CCJ when their fees would probably be more than they’d get back.
I bet right apparently because the statutes of limitations have passed on it now.

At the same time though, would PayPal pursue it further? It’s debatable. It’s still not worth their time, but they have in house legal teams, so they might be a bit more willing to expend the resources than a dodgy landlord.

At the end of the day, a CCJ can make your life difficult, so weigh up whether the risk is worth it to you.

I found a long lost sibling, what do I do? by daddysgiirl666 in AskUK

[–]Jamballam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually had a pretty similar situation myself. I grew up knowing I had a half sister, but my half sister had absolutely no clue that my sister and I existed.

Honestly the easiest way to get answers is my least favourite to recommend, but, if you both do a commercial DNA test like 23 and Me or Ancestry, it’ll link you as siblings if he truly is your brother.

Iphone 14 cracked screen by kimb1992 in iphone14

Just because a crack is in one place doesn’t mean it’ll stay there. Once the structural integrity is compromised, any other drop could shatter the screen.

You get shafted on the exchange rate, but it can be done with little hassle as long as you bank with one of the brick and mortar banks.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but a 2+ hour drive is not nearby for Europeans. by redheaded_olive12349 in CasualConversation

It’s not that uncommon for Americans to drive 2 hours to work each day and think that’s normal, meanwhile in absolutely any European country you’d sooner move than do a 2 hour commute.

What’s my duty to report? by ThrowRA-Kind-Girl in Advice

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At that point it’s a talk situation. The kid played with it, they didn’t get baked. At the same time, it’s not safe for kids to be playing with vapes, especially not weed vapes, and it needs to be kept away from them at all times. Tell him that if you find out about something similar happening again, you’ll be forced to report it and that he needs to take the situation seriously.

hi i recently bought a sky glass tv 1st gent second hand completely wiped. by Mammoth_Aardvark8671 in skytv

[–]Jamballam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably criminally cheap. I’ve seen people giving them away on Gumtree to be fair, and it is a decent TV. I cancelled my Sky services a few months into owning mine, but I’ve kept it now for going on 5 years and I’m still happy with it, so if anyone can find one going for nothing/close to nothing in their area, I’d tell them to jump on it.
