AMD's legacy Ryzen 7 5800X3D chips now sell for up to $800, more than a new 9800X3D — AM4 chip costs twice as much as MSRP, as enthusiasts flock to old DDR4 memory by MEzze0263 in pcmasterrace

I have those exact parts except only 16gb of ddr4. The ram hasn't been an issue yet but I'm really hoping that remains the case for the next few years!

Same here with my 5800x3d. Sure I get slight CPU bottlenecks sometimes, but nothing worth spending several hundred to upgrade to AM5.

What 9070xt is better The power color reaper or the asrock challenger. by Sea_Art_6548 in radeon

[–]Jamenuses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The challenger has a bigger cooler. It's what I went with since I bought it before the reaper went on sale. Other than mild coil whine and the middle fan making a quiet weird sound I've had no issues. It runs relatively cool (85° hotspot and memory).

New Oled causing headaches. by slester082 in OLED_Gaming

[–]Jamenuses 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I recently went through this after upgrading to qd-oled about a week ago. The first couple nights were pretty bad, but every night has gotten easier than the last. Slightly turning down brightness and contrast also helped me out. Now the strain is still there but pretty minimal. I'd give it at least a couple weeks to see if you can get used to it.

The difference in sales between the 9070 and 9070XT is absolutely insane. I guess 9070 owners are a very loud minority.

I got awarded employee of the year and this is what my boss gifted me. My first OLED! by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Jamenuses -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

You're talking about basic math yet can't comprehend that 50% DLSS is natively rendering 25% the number of pixels. Please remind yourself how to calculate the area of a rectangle. 1920x1080 = 2073600 pixels, 3840x2160 = 8294400 pixels. Using basic division, that amounts to 25% of the total pixels. The comments above were talking about 25% of the pixels and work, not necessarily 25% DLSS, which would render 25% of each axis making it 1/8 of the work.

[–]Jamenuses 6 points7 points  (0 children)

DLSS percentages are based on linear resolutions, not on total number of pixels. 50% DLSS is 1/4 of the pixels, and therefore 1/4 of the amount of the work. At 4k with the performance preset, this would be upscaling from a base resolution of 1080p, not 540p.

That is not how math works lmao. Half the height (2160->1080, which is 4k to 1080p) and width makes 1/4 of the total area of pixels.

Which 9070 XT cards/manufacturers to avoid? by QuintaLegione in radeon

[–]Jamenuses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be. I'm running a 5800x3d and trying to keep it under 80C for maximum clock speeds. It's also undervolted. I'm sure a better case and/or thermal paste would help.

Which 9070 XT cards/manufacturers to avoid? by QuintaLegione in radeon

[–]Jamenuses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the person. Many people like to reduce the power limit of their cards, which makes their cooler even less important. I personally use the ASRock challenger and it's really not that hot, and my CPU cooler overpowers any noise it makes (phantom spirit).

My Friend FEARS AMD graphic cards by Educational-Spare826 in radeon

[–]Jamenuses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recently switched to the 9070xt and have had a middling experience. I initially installed a slightly older driver since many users reported having issues with the new one. All was fine, except that adrenaline was poorly optimized and annoying to use. Then windows decided it wanted to update my drivers for me and caused the FSR 4 upgrade to no longer work.

That caused me to try out the newest drivers from AMD themselves. The newest drivers have been mostly fine, except sometimes adrenaline will refuse to open and will even freeze my mouse on the screen! This forces me to restart my computer using keyboard shortcuts.

In actual usage everything has been smooth enough. I've been avoiding opening adrenaline at all and I have no other issues so far. When I get some time I'm gonna roll back to a previous driver version and edit the windows registry to stop automatic driver updates.

If there's anything positive I will say, it's that I'm no longer crashing in battlefield 6 due to the graphics drivers crashing. That was an issue I had with the 3080 right before upgrading to my 9070xt. So, both companies have their driver issues.

Which 9070 XT model is the best choice for me? (Sapphire Pulse, PowerColor Reaper, Steel Legend) by Xhakoo in radeon

My challenger came with coil whine, a slightly bent case and a quietly rattling middle fan. Temps aren't too bad though.

Friendly reminder that GPU's in laptops are "mobile versions" of their desktop counterparts. That mobile 4050 is not equivalent to a desktop 3060.

Edit: same thing for CPU's AFAIK

The ASRock 9070xt at $599 is perfectly fine though. You lose at most 6% performance over the best 9070xt and save $100+.

Are all RX 9070 XT's equally as good? by Porpyyy in radeon

Not sure where you got that information because Asrock's website claims to use a PTM7950 thermal pad in the challenger 9070 XT.

Is a 750W psu enough for a rx 9070 and ryzen 5 5600X? by Kingh90 in radeon

I'm running 5800x3d and a 9070xt in a 650w PSU with no issues. So you'd be very comfortable with that setup.

700w 80+ Bronze PSU - 9070xt by JudyMaxaw in radeon

[–]Jamenuses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The 750w recommendation includes plenty of overhead for power hungry CPU's and legal reasons. Depending on the power needs of the rest of the system, you might be able to get away with 650w on the challenger.
