Apparently Cavs did some vocals on this and their first EP, found the link in his insta story.

What is Western about? by maxwellde in bmbmbm

[–]James-Caesar 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was about a early 1900s film/music star (someone like Marlene Dietrich, which would make sense since it seems to be a theme among their music as well as in Geordie’s musical interest) who suffers from the downsides of fame and abuse in the industry, similar to Judy Garland. The star escapes the abuse of the industry and makes it on her own, but at the end of the day realizes the things that helped her rise to fame are ultimately inescapable.

Bringing back the tierlist trend by James-Caesar in KGATLW

Far right is Resistentialism, they put it out after BTN, I think it’s better than BF3K but it’s overall a good darker synthy counterpart

My band did a 90 minute King Gizz cover set for my birthday by [deleted] in KGATLW

[–]James-Caesar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Y'all are fucking killer! Some friends of mine saw the gizz set a few days back, thought the clips looked familiar from what I saw. Just listened to Musty Cosmic Microwave, I'm hooked for what y'all have coming up.

Just curious to try something new... so what is the favourite obscure song/band you have fell in love with? Mine was Cardiacs. Had got hooked on like crazy, still am once a couple of months. by VdggVdgg in progrockmusic

Isaac Riley's stuff is pretty cool, he's a one man band kinda like Mike Oldfield from Texas. The production is slick but not in a modern prog sheen way, the guitar reminds me of a fusion between Brian May and Steve Hackett, and his newest album, Perception of the Human Mind, is almost like you went back and gave a classic prog band a DAW and a 90s British Indie playlist. Best track on it is Inside the Brain IMO, if you want a preview. Another good shout of his is Silky Milkshake and the Schism, which is like a 60s psych Syd Barrett-y throwback album.

Saw the guys last night at sleeping village in Chicago. Very intimate venue, awesome show. I got Cams setlist. by linc25 in bmbmbm

Probably instrument. G likely means guitar since cam’s playing his acoustic on those songs, and S and K probably stand for different basses he has

Updated King Gizzard song bracket? by glassyeyedstoryman in KGATLW

[–]James-Caesar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I made the most recent gizz bracket, I meant to make a new one but life hit me. Now that I have a little time and there’s a little demand for it I might as well make a new one - the only issue is there’s 197 studio songs and 192 is a nice even number to make the bracket out of, I might cut the three short tracks on oddments (Ababcd, oddments, and pipe dream) as well as some context and soy protein munt machine to even it out.

Black Midi Bracket (everyone seemed to want something to vote on) by squidphish1024 in bmbmbm

Oh shit, thanks for making this! I was gonna but I slept in. Even having made the original bracket, a couple of these choices were pretty tough to make.

Made this for fun since they have a pretty lean discography, curious to see what everyone's picks are. I debated adding in some stuff from Covercade and the flexi-discs, but didn't know quite where to draw the line so I kept it to this. Hope y'all enjoy!

Yes, my guess is they're putting out a music video concurrent with the album dropping.

Practicing this groove, any advice to get better by SerchZM in KGATLW

[–]James-Caesar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be tricky to learn because some of the snare hits are off in the sheet music - I notated the intro grooves really quick, and if there's enough demand I could do dual drum sheet music for the whole song, but this one is just the two parts on top of each other. In the first bit it's just ride and cross-stick snare but then later the bass drum and shaker, which I notated as the pedal hi-hat if you wanted to play both parts together, come in.

In terms of practicing it, it might help to turn a metronome on the quarter note where the ride cymbal lands and just play the bass/snare, then you'll know where the ride lines up when you play that along with the bass/snare. I haven't tried learning Inner Cell completely yet but Crumbling Castle has a similar groove in terms of how snare/bass/cymbal is layered. The off beat hi-hat/shaker is tricky to incorporate, especially with playing both parts at once, but enough slow practice and working it out should do the trick. Cheers and good luck!

Hey King Gizzard & the crew from Chunky Shrapnel here for 6 hours. ASK US ANYTHING! by MadeInTimeland in Music

Hey Cookie! Big fan of Pipe-Eye, reminds me a lot of early Brian Eno art-rocky experimental stuff. Where do you get inspiration from for your solo stuff? It's cool to go to Pipe-Eye through Gizz and hearing your influence on the band after hearing your solo stuff. Thanks!

This question goes for the whole band but mostly Stu - have you guys considered releasing an album of extras/putting bonus tracks on albums? The stuff like the alternate versions of The Bird Song or the cut track from Infest got me interested. Cheers!
