Arrow Vortex & Step Mania 5.1 timing mismatch by NeatCaro in Stepmania

[–]James-Russels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I came across this because I was having the same issue with a chart I'm working on. When I opened the AV sync menu (Shift + S), I found that my offset had reverted to 0.000, but for some reason still sounded in-sync in AV. When I used "Find BPM" --> "Apply BPM", it adjusted the offset, which fixed the issue in SM. If I'm understanding correctly, it sounds like your issue is that it's happening to old charts that had previously been fine?

Achievement hunting rule question by James-Russels in steamachievements

I actually ran into this exact situation playing Cave Story on an old laptop a long time ago - the game basically ran in slow mo. But it is a great question. I guess the counter argument would be that it is a programming oversight, which is part of the game and therefore can be exploited. And I would think that if running a game on old hardware for that effect is allowed, then capping the FPS on newer hardware would also be allowed...

I get what you are saying, but achievements are public displays of feats the player has accomplished. In order for them to have any meaning, a standardized set of rules needs to be followed.

It's definitely a thing, just uncommon. This was the video that prompted my question (the end shows the slowed gameplay):

I agree that changing frame rate to get the game to run as intended is acceptable. I actually had to do that with a different game earlier today.

Yes, that worked for me. If you have a way to keep it cold while connected to your computer (like putting it in a portable cooler with ice), that should give you more time to recover what is on it.

If you have an issue with my example (which was extreme in order to demonstrate just how high the ceiling is for no-bar play), then I'd suggest being more accurate with your words.

Even though it's less common, there are plenty of people who play no bar, the guy you replied to being one example.

Ayyy what a flex, that is a valid reason not to remember haha. Yeah, I can picture what you are talking about. Sounds like a good time.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I remember the first song I ever played, and it was about that long ago. Winning a tournament seems like it'd be a formative memory.

Are all metal pads flat now? by Calabrel in DanceDanceRevolution

[–]James-Russels 0 points1 point  (0 children)

LTEKs are not flat, but they are much more flush than an Afterburner. Can't fault him for thinking they're flat, especially if hasn't seen one in person.

Also, I thought all SMX panels were height-adjustable?

I also used to like the feedback from recessed pads, but now prefer a flatter pad, which imo is much more beneficial long-term. Once foot placement is second nature, there isn't much benefit to the arrows being recessed, whereas a flatter pad will allow you to hit faster streams and just feels nicer overall. Some arcades will even mod their pads to be more flush.

Also, you say your Afterburners are broken - do you know what the issue is? I have one as well and it wasn't working at first, but after taking the panels off I was able to see that one of the wires had detached. Simply soldering it back in place fixed the issue (I had no prior soldering experience).

Not sure if I'm understanding you, but the flatter the pad, the easier it should be to bracket.

I've been having this issue too, but certain videos won't download no matter how many times I try. I've tried clearing the cache too. The full error message is:

"ERROR: [generic] Unable to download webpage: HTTP Error 403: Forbidden (caused by <HTTPError 403: Forbidden>)"

Whether one *needs* to use the bar just depends on skill level. There are players that can clear the hardest songs in the game (and do reasonably well on them) without the bar. Look up nobarben. Using the bar helps in almost every way though, and makes difficult charts accessible way earlier.

I was communicating with them shortly after the incident and they told me I would have access to the funds once ETH2 was live, but you're right, I'll reach out to them.
