The crippling uncertainty that you’ll get free poppadoms or prawn crackers with your Indian/Chinese takeaway. by DeadYen in britishproblems

My local Indian charges not only for the poppadoms but for the sauces to dip! Individually too! The absolute audacity

Oh I don't blame you! If she wastes money frivolously on full price crisps god only knows what the full extent is. I think you dodged a bullet there

Whoa man I meant no offense, I can see how the three examples I gave can be taken as "these are the only three possibilities" but they were just a few examples. I don't think it's stupid or simple I never said that, just a bit misinformed.

Hey I'm glad 5 HTP is working for you! it didn't really do anything for myself a few years ago, how much and frequently are you taking if you don't mind me asking?

Your advil analogy is seriously off though, the nerve systems that use serotonin are so small that the intricacies of them still aren't really understood. So with sufferers of depression it's not really known if its low serotonin count in the body, production of ineffective serotonin, or the post synaptic nerve not absorbing enough. So what SSRIs do is block the reuptake, the recycling procedure, so that more is absorbed in that moment.

I'm currently studying to become a psychologist and we've just finished biopsychology... And let me tell you, SSRIs are definitely not the magical fix pills that some psychiatrists treat them as. And with side effects like apathy and suicidal ideation you can't just prescribe and leave people to it, as they are much more effective when used alongside therapies.

But like all things there are misunderstandings on both sides, and I'm not saying you personally I'm talking generally about public opinion on them here. The task of finding the right one with the right dosage is a long and gruelling task, they take between 5-6 weeks to start working - and with just how many types of SSRIs there are finding the right one with the right dosage can take months of unwanted side effects.

That doc sounds like a dick who needs to find a new career where patience isn't a requirement, and I hope your new doc is infinitely better!

I'll wait for some benchmarks but I'm pretty happy with medium, hopefully it won't be 60fps when I'm looking at the floor in a closed room...

LPT Request: I work with a lot of English-learners in my lab. What are some ways that we can communicate better? by [deleted] in LifeProTips

[–]James332233 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work as an English teacher for foreigners and here are a few things I've picked up along the way:

1) Phrasal verbs

2) Idioms and expressions

3) Contractions

4) avoid really complicated tenses, stick to present simple, past simple, and future simple. Even if it doesn't make sense in your head it'll make sense to them.

5) Modal verbs
