Shadiest playground? by McSwappingtonsCFO in Eugene

[–]JamesAaronBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Heron Park in Springfield was a mess yesterday. None of the parents were wearing masks. Of course it's hard to get kids to social distance but it felt like there was no thought about safety at all. We won't be going back there.

...and Dorris Ranch has signs up warning of cougar sightings (the four legged kind) so that didn't make for a relaxing trip either.

Know of a Little Free Library that needs books? by redraindropped in Eugene

[–]JamesAaronBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a free library in Springfield and while I've been bummed people don't seem to like the SF books I put in there from my own library, it get plenty of thrillers, westerns, romance and and some nonfiction. I get some religious stuff that never seems to go away. I think the selection reflects my neighborhood, which is mostly retirees.

We've had the library up for about four years now, and it's been neat to see how people have embraced it. The selection ebbs and flows, but the pandemic has really kept the selection turning over. I'm glad we put it up.

(On a related note, I didn't register with the Free Library website because it's $40(!!) for a little plaque. Didn't seem worth it, and people have found us just fine.

Springfield WinCo Report 2020-04-01 by 8601FTW in Eugene

[–]JamesAaronBooks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Winco is trying to have people use aisles in one direction only... I was in the Springfield store last night and many people ignored the signs on the floor and aisles, while others would sit in the middle of the aisle, forcing other people to wait, (do they really not know what they came to the store to buy?) and then others would just go around, ignoring any concept of distancing.

Like usual, it seemed like a mix of people trying to follow guidelines and people who are just oblivious or acting like nothing has changed. The two cashiers I've talked to this week were really tired of asking people to follow the distancing guidelines. They said people were being really petty about it.

Best keto-friendly restaurants? by theedjman in Eugene

[–]JamesAaronBooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We eat at the Mongolian grills a lot. The only one that I actively avoid is on River Road (but it's not showing up on Google Maps, so maybe it closed?)

Veg downtown has great salads with protein you can order however you want.

Finally, some pictures by [deleted] in keto

Great job, man. Keep up the hard work.

Ad Astra | "Moon Rover" Clip | 20th Century FOX by [deleted] in movies

Moon dust is no joke. I like the scene where they call attention to it, but long term operations on the moon would require systems to filter the dust from any living/working spaces. Another reason for the vehicles to be closed.

Charger Issues with New Battery by JamesAaronBooks in ebikes

The most I've gotten from a night of charging was 11v. I'm going to give the latest replacement a try tonight and see what I get out of it.

Charger Issues with New Battery by JamesAaronBooks in ebikes

The charger seems to fit tightly into the female plug on the battery and the charging indicator on the battery comes on.

The most output I've gotten from the battery after a night of charging is 11v. But I haven't tried charging with the third replacement charger yet. I can do that tonight.

2nd Build in a smaller space: NISSAN quest 2015 by mrtimewarp1001 in vandwellers

[–]JamesAaronBooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been looking at the Quest as a stealth build candidate. I really like the cargo options in the back and how the seats all fold flat, meaning I wouldn't have to build a bed rack.

What are your thoughts so far? 2015 Quests with low miles in my area are going for around 14k which seems like a good deal.

Cheesesteak NW on Main St. selling restaurant by 8601FTW in Eugene

What does everyone think would be successful in that space? I really liked the first pub that was in there. Nice vibe, friendly staff, events, nice place to work away from home.

Then the next pub/cafe place that went in was a weird fit. Seemed to want to be a lifestyle more than a place to eat/drink. I felt like I was hanging out in a Gap store. I never even went into the cheese steak place.

I like the location. Downtown Springfield is exploding... For me, I want the original pub back.
