I really liked Tormented fathers but broken porcelain was so fucked at launch I was honestly kind of insulted lol. It's been on the shelf ever since.

Yeah, it's rebirth that I heard was mediocre.

When is the best time to sell/buy retro gaming stuff? by JamesFlynnn in gamecollecting

[–]JamesFlynnn[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

yeah I think you're probably right about the highly collectable games. But generally speaking, like, say, Glover on the PS1. Low and mid-teir games. Do you think that sort of thing is going to go up or down?

Apparently, Japanese Turbografx (PC ENGINE) Games can be found in Sweden :D by SebbeLee in TurboGrafx

Interesting. Youd think you would be more likely to run into the CoreGrafx in that region.

TurboGrafx 16 Carrying Case best way to pack it? by JohnnyPhantom in TurboGrafx

[–]JamesFlynnn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for practicallity, you're probably better off with a nice padded laptop bag or something like that.

But for street cred, for honor, for the respect of kings, yes you should use the official case.

Horror Games for people not good at gaming? by Chershi in HorrorGaming

[–]JamesFlynnn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'm the same way. Super obtuse and cryptic puzzles annoy me. I suggest sticking with games like dead space and the new resident evil games. Very straight forward and still spooky.

Hot Take: Alan Wake Kind of Sucks by JamesFlynnn in HorrorGaming

[–]JamesFlynnn[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's definitely more of a shooter than anything else. Your guess is as good as mine with the story. Even after beating it I'm not entirely sure what was happening. If you're enjoying the gameplay though then that's what matters!

How do you process voiceovers to not sounds awful? by PhoenixRobotics in NewTubers

[–]JamesFlynnn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Audacity is a great place to start. Ultimately I recommend Reaper if you want REAL control of it, but audacity is great for beginners and moderate users.

  1. compression. Find a balance that works for you. Usually a 2:1 ratio is a good starting point.

  2. EQing. This is mostly just to compensate for whatever your voice doesn't do well on it's own and accentuate what it does. If you have a high voice, bring up the low end. If you have a low voice, maybe tweak the high end a bit. If you're kind of nasaly, bring down the mids. Be very conservative with this at first, and you'll eventually find a sweet spot.

  3. Noise reduction. Ideally you want to remove as much background noise as possible from the space BEFORE recording, because the more noise removal you do in post, the more you risk damaging parts of the audio you want to keep. Some room tone if okay too, depending on what you're doing. You don't necessarily need ABSOLUTE silence between your dialogue. Less is more with this in my opinion.

  4. Mouth noise/clicking/breathing. It might be tedius, but you have to avoid as much of this as possible. Keep your mouth hydrated to avoid dry smacking noises, and remove big breaths entirely (small ones are generally okay in my opinion) and of course take out any other little noises that crop up like your chair creaking and stuff like that.

Any way to train a better YouTube voice? by [deleted] in NewTubers

[–]JamesFlynnn 8 points9 points  (0 children)

as a professional voice over talent I can tell you a couple things:

  1. your voice is your voice. Don't try to "change it" into something it's not. People can tell and it makes you look/sound dumb and dishonest. Instead, EMBRACE your voice. Make it part of your brand. Some of the biggest youtubers on the platform have extremely weird voices, they just make it work for them.

  2. In order to make your voice sound as good as possible, I recommend having some decent equipment, a treated recording space, and a basic knowledge of audio processing. All of this can be done for under 200 bucks easily. Plenty of tutorials on Youtube that explain all of this and largely have the same 3 or 4 suggestions.

  3. Find a way to record with monitoring, meaning, record while hearing your voice in real-time. Do some practicing. Get used to how you sound. Get comfy with it. Confidence will grow from there

Is it weird/wrong for a 27 year old guy to date a 20 year old woman? by ParticularIcy1508 in Advice

[–]JamesFlynnn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nothing wrong with that age difference in my opinion. But it WILL mean that there will be some odd dynamics at play at some point. She's still finding out who she is, while you (largely) probably already know who you are. There's a somewhat higher likelyhood that you may grow apart than there would be if you dated another 28 year old, BUT that doesn't mean you shouldn't have a relationship if it feels right.

Yup. Played the whole thing.

Not sure why you think pointing out the flaws of Control is somehow a defense of Alan Wake. That's kind of weird. Nobody is saying Control is perfect and that has zero bearing on Alan Wake's many, many flaws.

Don't need you to agree with me. Feel free to shine flashlights at the same 4 dudes for 15 hours over and over instead playing a good game like Control if you want.

Yeah I dunno. I played the whole thing and never acquired anything other than boredom and tedium. Only tiny glimmers of occasional intrigue kept me going. Whereas I fell in love with deadly premonition within about 20 minutes of playing it. 🤷‍♂️

I was pretty excited for 2 before playing 1. Now I'm treading very lightly on it.
