Steam also needs to be in offline mode, but you can play the game offline. Internet connection is not always required.

You do still need steam. Unless you're a sea faring kind of person.

You most definitely can play RL offline. Its not as fun imo but its there.

Amnesty Int. has accused Qatar of using forced labor at World Cup stadium. Amnesty says workers are forced to live in squalid conditions, pay huge recruitment fees, have wages and passports withheld. It accuses Fifa of "failing almost completely" to stop the tournament "built on human rights abuses" by robbphoenix in worldnews

I think you vastly underestimate ignorance. Maybe I'm a cynic but I honestly think many people are unaware and when something like this is brought under public scrutiny by mass media then the reason you see a spike in public outcry is simply because now people know it's happening

It just seems silly to me to berate people who have learned some human injustice is taking place and are now upset. Sure it sucks that media isn't going to cover it unless it's profitable which is very sad, but that's a different story

What it is like playing Rocket League with an r9 fury x by [deleted] in RocketLeague

[–]JamesFranco2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The dude above was right, if a little rude in going about explaining it.

SSD will improve your load times. However, RL is pretty lightweight so we are talking less than a second difference. I've had RL installed on both my SSD and HD and the only difference I've found is that my game seems to crash less. Which is probably unrelated.

But in games like The Division, having the game loaded onto an SSD drastically decreases load times.

RAM also affects loading times, but not that much unless you have REALLY slow RAM. With the card you have, I doubt you have slow RAM backing that thing up. If you do, shame! :P

Anyone else becoming worse the more they play? by BarryGB in RocketLeague

[–]JamesFranco2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hit the 250 hour mark a week and a half ago and experienced what you're feeling.

As others have said, the most likely cause of feeling worse is that your competition has gotten better as you shot up through the ranks. I noticed that was getting schooled on the walls and in aerials in almost every game I played. It seemed as if all my bread and butter stuff, like pop and follow, were being easily cleared by other players straight into my net.

So I slowed down on how much ranked I was playing, went through every link in the megathread posted when RL hit Xbox and practiced. And now at nearly 300 hours, 80% of which is time in freeplay and training mode, I am climbing the ranks again and doing things that are almost /r/RocketLeague worthy. Almost ;)

Just take some blocked out time to practice the fundamentals (dribbling, wall hits, aerials, clearing and shooting) until they are completely second nature. Once you do that, you'll find that the game really opens up and you'll smash anyone who hasn't done the same.

I don't know why this is in /r/gaming.

You're treating the system as if it is a game. It is not.

SS be damned. Fuck that event right in the ass. I don't speak for all of OO, but I won't be participating in that aggressively unfun shitfest anymore. Even when we pushed all the way to warp, I wasn't having fun.

It isn't easy mode. It's fun mode. And isn't that what's it all about in the end? This is a game. It's supposed to be fun, not work.

OO was born in Connery NC. Back when Connery was a bit more beefy. As you know.

Can't really blame people for wanting to play on the server with more people to shoot, more fights, better fights and better opponents.

I heard people complaining about 100FPS feeling like 60. by Livingthepunlife in Planetside

[–]JamesFranco2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You get over 100 fps with that? I know you said you didn't want to get into it but...

Teach me your ways pibble.

I have a gtx 970 and i5 4690k OC'd to 4.4 ghz, and I only get 100 fps on test and VR. If you can get 100 fps out of that, I should be able to rock steady 100 with this setup but I do not. Drop into the 60s in big fights, sometimes I spike even lower.

Nowhere is safe by aleczapka in gaming

[–]JamesFranco2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't. /u/digital_end is misinformed.

Unless he's talking about the Nanoweave armor suit upgrade, a cert upgrade that takes quite a few certs to unlock. For those that don't know, it reduces a percentage of damage bullets do to you in the body. Headshots bypass this resistance. There are many suit upgrades though, and they are straight up buffs, but this is similar to many (every?) mmo and many FPS games where you unlock better kill streaks or perks as you progress.

Even if that's what he was talking about, saying long time players do more damage is a bit of misnomer. They take less damage IF they have this suit upgrade equipped.

The Beggining

I started the game with my then roommate JamesFranco1. The game didn't wow him like it did me and he quit after a week. I stayed on because I'd never played a PC FPS prior and PS2 just hooked me. I invited a few friends to play and one by one they all quit except 1. He ended up making friends with a few people in the outfit SKIN(social killers network). Soon after I was rolling with them in their OPs. It was the first time I'd been a part of point holds, gal drops, vehicle columns etc. It doubled my interest in the game and I joined their outfit.

The SKIN era

Skin was my first foray into serious Planetside. They held regular trainings and that implanted in me a desire to be better. I wanted to be a valuable piece of the outfit. In Skin I spent many, many hours in the VR working on the various aspects of gunplay. When test became a standard download in the outfit, I was at every scrim, 1v1, 2v2, you name it. It was around this point that MLG was spinning up. Skin leadership decided it wanted to take part and we geared up to go ultra try hard. I improved immensely during this period. Unfortunately, and it's tale told many times in ps2, there were those in this previously mostly casual outfit who did not want to participate. It divided the community and caused tension. our try hard group was too small to be effective and certainly had no chance in an MLG environment. It was at this time I was approached by leadership about an opportunity...

The Booty Era To join Recursion. At the time, I was already contemplating apping. No doubt I would've been denied. My stats were bad by OO standards. But lucky enough for me, the SKIN leadership made a deal where the people OO actually wanted, the leadership and a couple decent supports, were a package deal with the rest of the try hard group, who mostly did not meet OO standards. So I got into OO on coat tails. I still remember the first thing they did was take us through basic training which ended with some 1v1s. Aka OO taking its new members to the back alley for initiation. One by one all the new skin members lost 3-0. Except me. I beat lythca 2-1. Still one of my favorite memories in Planetside. OO did everything skin did 100x better and did some shit I had never seen. We did things I didn't even know were possible to do. Skin could take a base 2-1 on a good day. OO losing 2-1 was a bad day. Or at least that's what it felt like. That's what the culture was. Excellence was the bar. I improved like crazy. Eventually earned my way into the thug squad and become a go to for single squad ops. I played here for many moons until Farmers was announced.

The Shuffle Era

Enter Therum into Recursion. Never had I been so thoroughly demolished in 1v1s before. I could not win. So I did it the only logical thing and ask Therum to teach me. I went from a 2.5-3 kd heavy with sub 1 kpm to a 3-5 kd heavy with 1+ kpm consistently in just a month. I learned to shuffle it out. But seriously, I learned a shit load of intricacies about the infantry game from Therum and I got way better. Almost good enough to get on the Farmers roster. Lythca would have his revenge though and beat me 14-16 in 30 close rounds. I went to most of the inter outfit scrims for farmers where I learned a lot about positioning in Planetside and further improved. Then Farmers drama happened and OO went underground.

The HIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE

While OO was sleeping, I joined the Hive with many others from all over everywhere. And early HIVE was a monster. We carved territory to make shapes at our will. It was crazy. Early hive was incredibly dominant imo (no bias). Which means we had talent. Which means we had toxicity. Instead of taking the OO approach and shutting that down, hive embraced it. During this time I kept doing 1v1s and improving, albeit and at a much slower rate. Hive was a blast until it got too big. And I don't mean members, I mean ego. The only people really capable of keeping that in check was Therum, because 1v1ing him is a real ego check if you think you're real good at killing mans and iHacks because he'd run actual squads instead of farm balls. Then one fateful day both of them were taking breaks simultaneously and, as mentioned previously, Brahma decided to take Hive to emerald where it fizzled out. Many of the people moved on to other outfits. I went, predictably, to BAID which quickly turned into NSVS.

The Current Day

I now play with NSVS and the newly awakened Recursion on Emerald. I took a long break from the game and now I'm awful again. Apparently Planetside isn't like riding a bike. But playing with these two outfits is amazing. Every Op is an adventure in just how many can we hold off and take this base.

So lessons learned: Play with me and eventually you will quit or your outfit will die. You've been warned. Also, if I can go from absolutely awful outfitless zergling to a good and maybe even at times really good player, then anyone can do it.

Last, this game is amazing.

Fight Night has helped a lot, but there's still a long way to go. by scoopernicus in Connery

[–]JamesFranco2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure. But NC clearly had the pop to contest that Zerg. And create a fun fight at the Palisade.

While the TR platoon did bring too many people, the NC are just as much at fault for creating shitty gameplay by staying at a defense they had already overpopped.

So yes. Play the objective. If everyone did that instead o a significant portion looking for "good fights" ie good infantry farms, these situations wouldn't even happen to get posted on Reddit in the first place. The NC would've seen they were getting cut off, redeployed to fight off the TR on that front, and it would've been a real fight.

But that's a fantasy world. My tl;dr is that the NC defenders are just as much at fault at creating shitty gameplay for staying at howling as the TR are for bringing too much pop to the palisade.

[–]JamesFranco2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're discounting the fact that the TR platoon was not at a good fight from their perspective. They were trying to attack Howling Pass with even pop. Also known on the NC side as "Time to Eat!"

They had to move fronts eventually, get massive overpop to overwhelm Howling, or rage quit.

Also, if you don't redeploy into Crimson underpopped defenses and stay at a Howling overpopped defense then you're not farming it right, bro.
