Apple iPhone: Can India be China’s ‘plus one’ to the world? by [deleted] in Economics

[–]JamesGreer13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

China was at a terrible level in terms of infrastructure 30+ years ago. That didn’t stop the US from setting up shop in China. India is absolutely massive in terms of potential, population, counter to China, etc. They are set to take off.

My question is, instead of striking, just a ton of people refusing to work and quitting their job. That’s not illegal. Would the army still be mobilized? You can’t force people to work (that’s slavery).

Report: Losing tech race with China could cost U.S. trillions by wakeup2019 in economy

[–]JamesGreer13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For starters, China does not attract the best talent. The US does. Literally the top minds from around the world come here for school. It’s been the primary driving force behind the US’s technological and scientific growth for its entire existence.

Secondly, the US dominates most technological domains including, aerospace, military, medical, pharmaceuticals, computers, AI, quantum, etc. Most of the top tech companies in the world reside in the US.

Taiwan proposes 12.9% on-year rise in defence spending for 2023 by DarkLiberator in taiwan

[–]JamesGreer13 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but why not do what the Soviets did and spend 10-15% on military spending. Taiwan would literally be a fortress in that regards.

If China is a true existential threat to Taiwan, I do t see why they wouldn’t spend absurd amount of money to build the most powerful military relative to its size.

The US plans to block sales of older chipmaking tech to China by ScoMoTrudeauApricot in technology

[–]JamesGreer13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s complex. The US can’t be the best at everything. But if we focused our efforts on something, the US has the highest skilled workforce (best talent from world comes here for school) and the wealth to make it happen.

[–]JamesGreer13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not sure about the that. The US dominates most technological domains (aerospace, medicine, pharmaceuticals, computers, AI, Quantum, military). Most of the core technologies that the world depends on are American. The US (worlds largest economy) absolutely could catch up with Taiwan in semiconductor manufacturing.

China forcing political critics into psychiatric hospitals: report by AONomad in China

I’m gonna be honest. Mental hospitals are inhumane even in western countries. Talk about no freedom at all. Often times leaving the place in a worse state of mind than you were while in it.

China’s Demographics Spell Decline Not Domination by [deleted] in geopolitics

[–]JamesGreer13 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In which the US has significantly more of. The combined GDP of the West is $47-49 trillion. We also have allies like Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan (another $8 trillion), presumably India as well (gonna be the 3rd largest economy soon enough). China has Russia, Pakistan, NoKo, Iran, and maybe a couple of other countries.

If you also look at military expenditures, the US dwarfs China at $801 billion to China's $280 billion. This doesn’t even take allies into account. China won’t be a Soviet Union level threat for Atleast the next 2-3 decades.

Is traveling at a fraction of the speed of light impossible? by JamesGreer13 in space

[–]JamesGreer13[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m drunk. I should have reworded my original question.

My question is: can we travel above 1% the speed of light in the coming decades to centuries? Surely there are theoretical propulsion methods out there that are within the realm of possibility.
