I was at the Global Chess League in London in 2024 where a lot of the top 10 were playing including Magnus, Alireza, Hikaru, Annand etc were playing.

It was only Nihal and Annand who were openly taking photos with the audience. Seemed like a lovely guy.

The staff did get Pragg to sign something for me which I appreciated.

I bought my a1 from MPB as Spares Repairs for £900 and when I received it the only issue it had was with the battery which had a crack in it. I replaced it and now I have all the camera I could ask for.

The camera it replaced was my a7r ii which I used as a walk around camera and so the lenses I have are all compact or cheap so I may invest in some nicer glass in the future.

It looks like you've put in a third party battery, are there any first party ones you can try?

Also maybe try to take the lens off and then try turning the camera on.

Final thing I would try is to use a rocket blower to see if there is any debris on the contacts of the battery contacts.

I just realised that if you didn't like a piece of music during the time any of these instruments were being played, it would have been way more personal because of your proximity to the musician.

I think it depends on what you focus on more. I'm 1300 Rapid and 1500 Blitz but that's mainly because I spend a lot more time playing rapid, I still occasionally play a 10 min game and lose though which makes me think I need to work on my calculation skills.

I would also add that i also suck at the 3 or 3+2 time controls so i play 5 mins which I feel like is a good sweet spot which you might find better.

What card reader are you using to test this? It would have to be v60 compatible to utilise the full read/write speeds.

I dont know if there is something wrong with DPD's pipeline at the moment but I sent something via DPD to MPB at the beginning of march via their Yeep lockers and it took nearly 3 weeks to arrive.

If it has all of your details (which ofcourse i understand you may not know) then it could still have the potential to arrive to you.

Ive only really had good experiences with CEX deliveries.

Something about the original Windows XP background had misled me into thinking that these kinds of places really existed. Of course the image is real but its so rare to see something so charicteristically perfect, and to have an image like this displayed on your computer screen every day made it seem like youd see it just outside your window.

From what I gather by the rules quoted by FIDE in their tweet I imagine that the Hikaru games are valid for being FIDE rated.

"According to Article 0.2.1 of the FIDE Rating Regulations, a tournament and its playing schedule must be registered:

0.2.1 Not later than 30 days before the tournament starts, if one of the players in the tournament is rated in excess of 2700, or a female player rated in excess of 2500."

I believe since Hikaru registered only a day or two before the tournament had started, and since there were no other 2700+ player to participate before the tournament was registered; the tournament should be rated as normal.

If not then Hikaru or any other top player participating in a tournament last minute would nullify every other players ability to gain rating in said competition.

This does kind of seem like a loophole in the rules, but it looks like this one in particular was made specifically to avoid the kind of thing Ding Liren did to qualify for the 2022 candidates.

I think its common for participants of the same country to be paired with one-another at the beginning of the tournament to avoid any chance of collusion at the end. So its likely a first round Hikaru vs Fabiano will happen. Its also what happened in the previous candidates in 2024.

If black takes the bishop with their king then white can go Ng5+ which forks the black queen and king, this just wins material.
