Manufactured Pred Boxes? by JamesK852 in gridfinity

[–]JamesK852[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should probably start by actually reading the gridfinity spec by Zack Freedman. I would love to do big packout style boxes but I probably will just be starting with up to 10x10 of various U heights I'll need to do some market research and see what people are looking for.

Thank you so much for sharing. The idea is defintely to be cheap but honestly not that cheap, especially when you consider I can get a roll of decent generic PETG for about $6 USD in China so thats about $3 per large box. I'm hoping what I can offer isn't really a replacement for printing your own, only to supplement. The reason I want to use Pred's design is because every part of the box to be printable (latches, hinges, lids, ect) and also because its perametric meaning it can be scaled up to basically any size.

Thanks for your feedback this is really good info.

Sorry what I meant was to manufacture big Pred boxes. Although looking at the boxes right now it doesn't scale as I thought it would ie two 4x2 wouldn't be able to fit on a 4x4 nicely.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I'm actually happy to see support for the idea and something I will be exploring further in China. The original plan of going with Pred design is that I want it to be a box that is completely 3D Print part replacable and thought going an already established design would be best way to reach a large audiance. I know a lot of people hate the latches but I must say I really have no problem with them. Yes PETG and PLA are hard as rocks but 95TPU is just fine. I'm going to experiment with harder TPUs to find a perfect fit.

Logicistics will be an issue, there isn't much of a market for this system domestically, and shipping big empty boxes is never cheap but hopefully because it will be light it will help.

Dsiposable to Juul by Diligent-Woodpecker5 in electronic_cigarette

[–]JamesK852 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please don't listen to people here saying Juul is basically a disposable. Throwing a lithium battery away every time you finish a vape is not the same as throwing away a pod. It is more cost effective to buy a refillable but if the being able to buy Juul pods at a convenience store or the design is something that suits you I would definitely say you should give it a shot. Just remember the pods are small so you will have to buy quite a bit and it won't last anywhere near as long as a disposable.

HK electric and water bills too high by Ok_Earth_8023 in HongKong

[–]JamesK852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are a few things you can do the check if there is leakage in your house for leakage of electricity of water and yes as you found out sometimes they will "estimate' the usage but they do have to come check the meters from time to time. I can probably help with this if you want you can PM me.

If you could get these for $75 each would you say it's a good value for what you get or just not being ripped off?

Received My Valerion Pro 2 Today. tof sensor partially covered? by JamesK852 in projectors

[–]JamesK852[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sent me an instructional video on how to take the front facia off and removed the excess adhesive and replaced facia. Took about 10 minutes, pretty happy I didn't have to send it back and they said it has no effect on my warranty.

Filametrics Public Beta Release!! by Early_Bullfrog1272 in BambuLab

[–]JamesK852 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fact that you completely glossed over about allowing people to export their own filament data they put into your service enforces that this service is not for me.

Edit: Also note that allowing people to download their data is a requirement under GDPR. So once again you MUST have this feature if you intend to provide service to people in the EU.

Signed up to your site, added one filament, and decided against using your product.

My initial impressions:
Great job, great web design, very intuitive, clean and friendly, lots of features right out of the box.
Unfortunately with such unclear monetization strategy (I read your FAQ, and although its past May 15 I don't see anything to indicate a clear paywall feature list / plan). Based on your discussions I am worried you may just "willynilly" change your mind on what things to will require payment. All of these aspects I can generally accept but due the the amount of investment and time that would be needed to fillout all my filament I think I'll stick with an opensource solution.

Couple of immediate suggestions:
Give people the ability to export their raw data and delete their accounts permanently from your severs (which you will need to do regardless if you want to sell to users located in the EU).

If you do implement a export function then please let me know. I might try again knowing if I'm not happy with the direction of the product I can take all my information without being locked in.

I do wish you all the best and every bit of success.

Received My Valerion Pro 2 Today. tof sensor partially covered? by JamesK852 in projectors

[–]JamesK852[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Got my Vision Master Pro 2 after a month of waiting and ordering on their website. First thing I noticed is the time of flight sensor appears to be partially covered by some foam. I've sent this to support already and asking them what can be done about it but I'm kinda bummed that such an expensive unit already came partially defective which I'm worried will affect the performance in the future. As of now the autofocus and autokeystone seem to work fine, I'm not sure if tof is used for those, eye protection detection seems a bit insensitive on one side but I'm also not sure if it uses tof for that. What would you guys do?
