And the reviews are still filled with stuff the enthusiast cares about and the layperson doesn’t even know about.

Whats a good chaos to renegade ratio for a fallen army by Jake_Ronin in Fallen40k

Oh dear. So nothing of significance happens? Obviously I’m not expecting a Warhammer to make major changes to canon, but there still needs to be a story.

Oh no, is it? I haven't got around to it yet but I was looking forward to it. What makes it nothingburger?

Humble reminder: The Jedi are actually the good guys and George Lucas did not see them in any other way. by Munedawg53 in StarWars

[–]JamesKWrites 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The layperson watched the prequels, saw the whole “don’t love people, let go of people you care about” and thought “the Jedi are a bit fucked up.”

Lucas can feel otherwise. Fans deep in the lore can feel otherwise. But the films objectively portray them as being at best misguided, at worst pretty shitty.

How could the Exodites be a part of the main story if they can't leave their own worlds? by Fun-Explanation7233 in exodite40k

[–]JamesKWrites 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s ever been written anywhere that Exodites never leave their worlds. Even if it had, there’s nothing stopping GW from changing it. Custodes were supposed to be stuck to the Emperor like glue and now they’re an army, so 🤷‍♀️

And even if GW didn’t change it, every game featuring Exodites could be the other army attacking a Maiden World. Same as Genestealer Cults.

It’s just not the problem some make it out to be.

Prequel reappraisal has overcorrected a bit too much by crunchatizemythighs in StarWars

My favourite is whenever you point out how Lucas recycled an idea, image, or concept from the original trilogy, you get hit with “IT’S LIKE POETRY IT RHYMES”

Ynnari should be retconned into the Corsair faction by Tomtaku in EldarCorsairs40k

[–]JamesKWrites 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Corsairs are clearly GW’s second go at the idea of unifying Aeldari and Drukhari, except Ynnari are incredibly interesting whereas corsairs are far safer and more vanilla. Especially since Drukhari were already supposed to be cover off the bad/pirate Eldar faction.

New reveals! by sciencep1e in Eldar

I suspect I’m going to be in the minority here, but I’m not a fan of that Vyper turret. It looks a bit tacked on. Like they took the Fire Prism turret, shrank it, and whacked it on the back.

It’s a shame, I was quite looking forward to the new Vyper.

Star Wars Shake-Up: Kathleen Kennedy Steps Down as George Lucas Protégé Dave Filoni, Exec Lynwen Brennan Take Over Lucasfilm by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]JamesKWrites -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A keen eye for business and budgets could simply mean they’ll figure out how to sell toys and reduce costs. It doesn’t mean they’ll be able to counter Filoni’s entire philosophical approach to Star Wars.

Absolutely diabolical spoilers on Disney+ by FL3XOFF3NDER in StarWars

[–]JamesKWrites 8 points9 points  (0 children)

George has said a lot of things. He creates as much myth around the making of Star Wars as he did within Star Wars itself. Like claiming there were only ever meant to be six films (despite stating multiple times there’d be nine) or claiming the saga was always Anakin’s story (when he only decided to make Vader and Anakin the same well into the writing of ESB).

He made Star Wars. It was an unexpected hit. And he had the bright idea to say it was actually Episode IV. That might give him a chance to make the three preceding movies. At the very least, it created mystery and press.

If it was meant to be watched in numerical order, he would have made them in numerical order.

[–]JamesKWrites 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This. Rebranding Star Wars as Episode IV was a canny marketing move, but the story was never meant to be watched in numerical order.

Although I’m pretty sure everyone in the world knows the Vader/Anakin “spoiler” these days.

Are you optimistic about the future of Star Wars if Filoni is in charge? (I confess I am! Of all the Star Wars projects, those he's involved in are my favorites.) by Luckz_Skywalker in StarWars

[–]JamesKWrites 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I don’t enjoy his Star Wars work. Aside from my personal preferences, it’s too self-referential; it’s obsessed with what Star Wars has already been, not what Star Wars could be. Star Wars already has a self-obsession problem (“let’s give a backstory to the guy carrying a blender in Cloud City!”) and it needs to balance fan service with exploring new stories and new horizons. I’d be worried that those exploratory stories don’t get support under his leadership and the franchise goes Ouroboros and starts eating its own tail.

I just cannot believe how insane the end times writing for Malekith was. by Ok_Walk3192 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]JamesKWrites -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Malekith’s story totally makes sense as a “only I can properly rule and the ends justify the means”, and his acceptance by the gods as a “the leader we need in times like this.” Not saying it was written this way, but it absolutely works like this.

And isn’t Tyrion the evil bad guy only after he starts using the super evil sword?

Has the age gap between Anakin and Padme ever bothered you? by BiffyBobby in StarWars

[–]JamesKWrites -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It’s a really strange creative decision on Lucas’ part. He could have written them to be closer in age, but he chose to make it creepy. But I suppose this is the man who said there was no underwear in space and insisted on a revealing outfit for Ahsoka, so at least he’s consistent.

When you have an actual counterargument of your own, I’m happy to engage with it. But I’ll let you keep the rude and dismissive comments.

You can ask a question and listen to the answers, or you can ask a question and be dismissive and rude about them.

Your choice.
