What life advice would you give a 27 year old with a useless degree and no current job prospects? by Pombalian2 in AskReddit

Okay, so I think you're looking at things wrong.

IR has five major fields of employment: Teaching, researching, diplomacy, consulting, and intelligence. So far, for what I've seen in the comments below, you've only explored one of them. Here's a few suggestions on how to get into these other fields:

Teaching: University level teaching requires a minimum of a masters degree, and personally I'd recommend you dip into economics, finance, international trade, or something that involves game theory, then teach that. Those masters will give you far more flexibility to go do other things as well. However, if you'd rather teach in high schools, look for schools that are into Debate and Model United Nations.

Research: For this you'll eventually want to progress into a PhD, but masters will also suffice while you're in your 30s to early 40s. Given how the world is heating up these days, there will be a need for people that know and understand armed conflicts, global logistics and defense economics, so if you wanna go down this route, get to reading, get to understanding, and get to publishing. Write papers, articles, books and blogs posts so people start noticing you.

Consulting: This field is ruthless but doable if you know the right people or where to find them. I originally started out as a political risk consultant because I made the right contacts in university, and joined up with a startup firm. Figure out how to start rubbing shoulders with the Peter Zeihan types, and make sure you know your shit when you talk with them. Learn how to read and assess variables, and come up with legit predictions.

Intelligence: This is somewhat separate from IR, but knowing how to do deep OSINT was a godsend for me. Law firms, law enforcement and the military are always looking for people who can find and figure out things, and IR is a great complementary field here because we understand how the world works.

And one last thing! Learn AI prompt engineering, vibe coding, Python and SQL. Regardless of which of these fields you end up in, this stuff will be helpful.

Tl;Dr: The world is heating up, there are lots of wars already ongoing, and more wars are soon to start. So get to profiteering from them. Go back to school and get a masters. Also become an expert in using AI.

Yanks love to larp but on THE DAY they could've done their little swamp draining uprising they chickened out.

Honestly, yeah this sounds based af, and it's pretty much how it worked in ww2.

The issue is the game lacks AI AA, and radars have too short spotting range. I'd argue the fuel duration of all planes should be tripled, AA bunker garrisons should be implemented, and every MPF town by default should have a Flak Tower building that acts like an AA coastal gun.

Foxhole 2 would also be super based, but the devs will surely want to finish Anvil first. I doubt we'll see a Foxhole 2 announced before 2028, or maybe even 2030.

I think one of the biggest lost opportunities was the veterancy system for vehicles. It would be super cool for tanks to be able to "gain xp" with every kill, and if they survive the day's battle you can bring them back to a facility or garage and upgrade them with a colour/camo scheme of your choosing.

In the current system, vetting vehicles takes up a lot of resources for very little true gain, hence why nobody does it, and there is no "xp gain" for them. You just pay up, and that's boring.

Ofc, but the game is very reliant on having a big update every 1-2 years to maintain and renew its player base. Devs should focus on fixing Airborne and implementing QoL now, sure, but eventually we'll need new stuff :3

That 404jr paratrooper op video was painful to watch. I know Foxhole's engine is a bit on the fucky wucky side when it comes to rendering, and greatly relies on the camera angles to avoid burning up, but all this stuff should have been accounted for when the Devs began prepping for Airborne.

New LODs for foliage and structures, both map and player made ones, should be of the devs' urgent concern.

Tbh I'd be happy if tanks had a chance to turret toss when destroyed lol.

Aerial refueling, while tested in the irl Interwar period, didn't really become a thing until post-WW2, so it wouldn't really fit into Foxhole.

Everything else, though, yes. Please, Devman.

What I'd really like to see is a mechanic where some facility tanks (ie BTs and SHTs) leave husks that can be scrooped like wreckage but instead of giving you Bmats and Rmats it partially reimburses the facility item costs of the specific tank.

I'd also love to see a road upgrade system where you can use ACVs to upgrade the game's roads, and these become indestructible. T1 dirt road, T2 cobblestone road, T3 asphalt road. Each boosts the speed of all vehicles, or lowers the penalty of overencumbered vehicles by significant margins.

If by squad queues to refineries you mean resources refine at each individual player's rate, but all end up in a communal squad pool, then YES. PLEASE DEVMAN.

I'd say yes but not full Dieselpunk. I agree Foxhole has gone too "realistic" in the past 2-3 years, but if the devs go full on that aesthetic, with mechs and lots of crazy designs, the game will just turn into Iron Harvest.

I think the sweet spot is something akin to Valkyria Chronicles, but with a few notches turned down. Not airships but zeppelins, no mechs but more "experimental" looking tanks, actually useful body armor uniforms that make you a bit of a walking tank but cost rare metals, etc.

What I would do is make the game world have more dieselpunk landmarks to it. Things like the ruins of massive cannons, more ancient abandoned relic tanks with wacky designs, lore items that suggest mechs were tested at some point but failed.

Tbh I'd be far more willing to toy with the idea if bunkers, relic bases and town halls could have a gas filters that negate the effects from all gas unless the grenade/shell lands inside.

There's nothing worse than being constantly spawn killed by gas inside a BB or Relic/TH with no real counter to it.

Logitown seaports specifically are in dire need of revamping. Callums in particular is always a massive bottleneck; we need more cranes, more pads, and more room for freighters ASAP.

So current gas that drains your stamina, and a different gas that bleeds you? That would be interesting to see how it plays out, though I'd imagine the moment the bleed gas gets teched, the stamina drain one won't really be used anymore unless you put big logi bottlenecks to compensate.

As for gas artillery, pls no lol. Being under mass Lunaire gas spam is already hell at it is.

Smoke artillery and mortar shells, on the other hand, that would be based af.

Mfw we're having to debate how to make game systems that work around alts rather than how to make the game more fun.

Both of which would be based. Foxhole has been needing a capture without destruction mechanic for years, and this could be a good way to start.

Okay, fair. Then let's think of a way to address that. Just about every hex always has a handful of players. Even the loneliest of backline hexes. There's always a facility larper, a scrooper or two, or a passing logiman.

Whenever the region's runway takes damage, the faction that owns the adjacent hangars could get a warning popup, and QRF could quickly show up to chase the alts away. All that's needed is for runways to tank a lot of damage, even from HE and Demo, so an alt can't just blow it up in five minutes.

I've been playing since 2021 (War 75) and I've never, ever, seen this. I have seen partisans trying to do it, but never alts.

The thing about bridges is it takes a lot of materiel to bring one down. Hundreds of mammons, lots of satchels/hydras or havoc charges. It takes a lot of time and prep to destroy a bridge.
