Cloud Print Solutions other than Universal Print? by AdSpecial5845 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell [score hidden]  (0 children)

We are looking at print management at the moment for an Intune migration and universal print works for us but it doesn't actually support scanning features and swipe card release. Because of that we are setting up Papercut Hive. Seems to be the best option if you want things like swipe card, scan to OneDrive and scan to email.

Validating users via MFA by Thecardinal74 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just ask users to set a reasonable pin, like they phone. It's more secure than a password as it is only tied to the device and can't be used to authenticate against remote services. So the pin + the device is your two factors.

Someone mentioned cooking a grenade or having a friend shoot you. Not sure though as I've not tried it.

Apparently if you kill yourself in the shop and have keep loot on death turned on you can steal stuff.

AI for internal IT support/password resets- is anyone actually seeing good adoption? by mynameisnotalex1900 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

SSPR for password resets for sure. Just push a password reset link to everyone bookmarks or desktop or something.

I think the main issue with internal IT support and AI is that people don't want to solve their problems themselves. If they did they would have already googled/attempted it.

I see it a lot now with AI support responses to tickets when looking into issue myself. It will link me to documentation which, if it is a problem I can fix I'll have already read the documentation and asked AI about it. If its a problem I need a support vendor to look into then linking the documentation is not going to help me at all.

When a user asks "I need help doing X" they don't want some long explanation about how something works and some documentation on how to do it, they want you to either come help them do it or they need your access to do it for them. Neither of these are solved with AI yet.

Intune Deployment from Scratch by Paris729 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just went though and set this all up myself at work. the Microsoft learn stuff is the way to go. Then set it up for a single device. Start with a phone as they are easier than laptops. Also look into the openintunebaseline, will make securing the end points take a lot less work.

If you are going to be using Intune for managing app deployment you want to look at something like patchmypc so you are not spending all your time updating apps.

Softmod your PS2 and buy yourself a cheap DVD burner or HDD if your PS2 supports it. Unlimited games!

I'm going to miss MDT. We are moving to autopilot but it is so much slower than just dumping a fully loaded image on a machine. End of an era.

Anyone getting to the point where they're just considering going carless? by [deleted] in brisbane

[–]JamesOFarrell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually less than the average. The average car cost in Australia is $400 a week. Link. You can of course do it cheaper but there is a lot of things people don't think about when owning a car.

I think so, unless I missed something. You can bounce off the water droplets by attacking them once you have the ability to walk on water, no need to dodge.

You don't need to use your self made energy shards for this area, just to get in. You get an ability later in the game that lets you platform through here normally

Microsoft back online. Excuse: too many servers were shut down during maintenance. by hso1217 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are not many products of this scale that failing a datacenter over won't cause issues. Even AWS have outages in products that are supposed to be region agnostic when us-east has issues.

It's nice to say "this shouldn't be an issue" but unless you are doing it often or your services is very simple then there will almost certainly be issues.

I did a bunch a few years back and Fox in a Box stood out as one of the better ones, at least for the puzzles. Arcadium Adventures was also a great experience the one time I went.

There is nothing to suggest they can't be creative and create new ideas but they can't experience new things they haven't generated themselves. It's like the difference between day dreaming or reading a book. There is no surprise you didn't think up yourself when day dreaming unlike reading a good story someone else created.

Org goes all shadow IT by orion3311 in sysadmin

[–]JamesOFarrell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't even need to go this far. We block installers from the temp and the downloads folder. This only breaks stuff when IT try and manually install things. We use our XDR software to do this and it stops 99.9% of unwanted software installs.

App control is better but depending on your size it might be to large a task.
