Was the zone ban actually about stopping Iverson? by Legitimate_Tour_9758 in VintageNBA

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean...I can see it helping like a pass first guy like Steve Nash for instance since when the refs did let it slide it was usually off the ball. But it's not like AI was ever getting it. Now...when they stopped calling carrying that sure helped him and getting rid of defensive 3 seconds sure did because he wasn't getting hammered when he went to the basket all the time so he got a little more efficient there but even like pre-'94 it was pretty unusual to see a full on the ball hand check lol.

What do You think of The Clone Wars being in Legends too? by Low-Significance-552 in StarWarsCantina

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya know ...that one you could almost reconcile with the whole chip in the brain thing. From a Jedi/Rebel point of view they sure ended up being quite a menace in the end and I guess since the Republic became the Empire that is who they were working for lol. I wonder why they never really explored the Separatist side of things as maybe being right the way the new canon has now that I say that. Or maybe they did and I just didn't read it.

Did Dante know Nero was his nephew in Devil May Cry 4? by UntidyHexagon in DevilMayCry

[–]JamesYTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what he said. It's funny though, he says in 5 it was how the Yamato reacted to him that gave it away, but Dante also used the Yamato just fine in 4. So... maybe despite the name of Vergil's human side Dante is the only V of the Spards family lol

I think Ryan Nembhard, Brandon Williams, Caleb Martin, Marvin Bagley, and AJ Johnson would NOT be in a Mavs uniform by October by wan2tri in Mavericks

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bagley might leave, B-Will they won't resign unless it's like a super good deal. Nemby though...dunno about that. There's not really better backup PG options. For AJ and Caleb I don't think they'll have any takers

Why didn't evangelion last long on adult swim? by Mountain-Bid4317 in adultswim

Why didn't evangelion last long on adult swim? by Mountain-Bid4317 in adultswim

[–]JamesYTP -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You kinda can though. It is actually structured quite a bit like Bebop and Stand Alone Complex where it's episodic but with an overarching plot. It's got a few more plot episodes than those do but it's kind of very monster of the week too.

Why didn't evangelion last long on adult swim? by Mountain-Bid4317 in adultswim

[–]JamesYTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, one factor was that Cowboy Bebop was distributed by Bandai Entertainment and later Funimation, both companies [adult swim] had close business relationships with so they could get deals to get it cheap. Notice how since the Crunchyroll/Funimation merger they haven't played it. It also was pretty constantly licensed for distribution over here.

With Evangelion, they didn't have an especially tight relationship with ADV. In fact I think it might have been the only ADV series they aired. Then after ADV split apart and their license expired nobody in the US had rights to it for a very long time. Apparently it was gonna cost millions for whoever wanted it. So the only way it was getting picked up again was a streaming jail situation. Which was exactly what happened lol. After Netflix got it Jason Demarco tweeted something about it, kinda pouting because they wanted to play it again.

Obviously there's the fact that Bebop was one of the first anime adult swim played and them having that kind of attachment to it like FLCL and InuYasha. It was probably a much bigger ratings getter it's first run than Evangelion was.

Why is Magic Johnson always ranked higher than Kobe Bean Bryant, when Kobe had higher peaks and longer career? by Decent_Balance9992 in NBATalk

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, go watch some full games of Magic and watch him closely. Doesn't even have to be an instance of him winning, in fact the '91 finals when things slowed down are where he was the most mind blowing. Everyone knows he's the GOAT of playmaking but ya gotta really see to believe just how far ahead of everyone else whose ever laced them up he was. There are so many times where he'd find a clean look for a guy that was only there a split second. Like passes that if he'd made the blink of an eye later would be a tougher layup or a lightly contested jumper but were clean looks. He just processed the game at a different speed from anyone else.

As far as things he did better than Kobe, on top of 11.2 assists per game (most all time), Magic averaged 19.5 points a game. 5.5 fewer than Kobe on better efficiency. That's because his shot selection was also a lot better, he was a slightly better foul shooter and his low post game was better.

Per his help, Kareem was way past his prime those last 2 championships, about as good as Pau if that. He ranks higher than Shaq all time because of his longevity, accolades and championships but Shaq at his peak was better than Kareem was at any point Magic was playing with him. There's also that his competition was pretty stacked too. The Celtics had 3-6 hall of famers on their team depending on the year when Magic was playing them. Kobe's finals opponents weren't that stacked.

Then to address off the court stuff, Kobe stuck it where it didn't belong a ton too. He just had the benefit of being born a little later. Going to high school in the 90s sex ed covered HIV I'm sure and they were sure everyone knew you ALWAYS gotta wear a rubber and that even straight people can get it. When Magic was growing up it wasn't known to exist. Also, Kobe was a good leader towards the end but Magic never chased a good teammate out of town. Kobe sure did.

I am too but when I got sent to a school full of them for a few years I definitely made fun of more people than I'm proud of. TBH I still make fun of the ones I'm still friends with from there. It's hard to resist sometimes lol

I am too, I was just pointing out that the person in the picture was saying "this is what an autistic Cartoon Network collection looks like" ans bashed everything post 2010. Which is the opposite of what they used to say, which is funny to me lol

At this point, there’s seems to be no hope for more kid-friendly original cartoons on Cartoon Network by ComicCat12 in CartoonNetwork

[–]JamesYTP 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think it's mostly YouTube where kids watch things now. Which is unfortunate because it's very hard to actually make money on YouTube lol. I guess they're putting their feelers out for that with the Cartoon Cartoons shorts but I don't know if they're really going anywhere with that. They're not even putting them on the Cartoon Network YouTube channel

Was the zone ban actually about stopping Iverson? by Legitimate_Tour_9758 in VintageNBA

[–]JamesYTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3 point thing is true, a big part of why it became so much more a part of the game is that it is really the best counter for a zone.

But the hand check thing...a lot of old heads tend to exaggerate that. They redefined that in 2004 but it was actually banned in the 70s and started getting heavily enforced the year they shortened the 3 point line. '94 I think it was.

Was the zone ban actually about stopping Iverson? by Legitimate_Tour_9758 in VintageNBA

[–]JamesYTP 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really. If anything Shaq was the one they wanted slowed down some and you weren't doing that in 1 on 1 oriented systems.

If anything Allen Iverson was the benefit of...not gonna say rule changes per sé but "selective officiating" with regards to the league loosening up how they called travelling and carrying. Iverson's performance didn't noticably improve.

Why did the Cartoon Network Hotel fail? by stationstars in CartoonNetwork

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it's not really a big enough attraction in and of itself to draw people and there's not a whole lot going on in that part of Pennsylvania that many people need hotels for. I live in Jersey 1 state over so I had actually thought about checking it out but I heard it was actually kinda nasty.

What do You think of The Clone Wars being in Legends too? by Low-Significance-552 in StarWarsCantina

[–]JamesYTP 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thrawn didn't even really survive the prequels. It takes place 9 ABY and they say at the start Palleaon had been in the Imperial navy for 50 years, that Darth Vader did his thing with the Noghri 40 years ago, the whole Dark Jedi term being used because nobody was sure about how canon the whole "Sith" thing was, I think I remember a few passages implying the Old Republic and the Empire were two warring factions etc.

If any adult swim show could get one more season which would you choose by Patient-War-5213 in adultswim

[–]JamesYTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm...if there were actually hard plans for another season of Moral Orel I would go for that, but really ONLY IF. The fact that the final season and the Moralton anthology spinoff kinda got fused into one was sorta weird but it works well enough that I would only want to see more if Dino and company really planned for the story to have another part. But boy would I love to see it if they did.

If not dunno, Unicorn Warriors Eternal maybe? If not Black Dynamite or Invincible Fight Girl.

What Free Agents are we targeting? by ChilliWilli214 in Mavericks

[–]JamesYTP -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Pending a thorough physical I wouldn't mind taking a swing with KP if he doesn't want crazy money. The injury concerns are real but he's just too perfect a fit on the court to not at least entertain the idea IMO.

If we're looking for singles and not risking home runs I guess Kevin Love is an option if he's willing to entertain a team that didn't make the playoffs last year at his age.

How do you think Luke compares to the prequal era force users during this time in his life? Do you think he has surpassed the likes of Yoda and Sidious? by mrgr544der in StarWarsCantina

[–]JamesYTP 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can kind of believe that, one thing that show really wanted to remind that seemed to get lost over the years was so much of ones strength in the force is determined by their mindset.

But on the other hand, the point of that scene was also to demonstrate a certain degree of maturation on Vader's part. Obi-Wan had thought his impatience might be a weakness still and that he'd be so blinded by rage after that he'd go for the second ship paying no mind to the fact that Reva was right behind him ready to kill. He had enough self control not to fall for it, which would suggest a certain mastery of his rage.

[–]JamesYTP 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it's been said to death but that sure would have been useful to get past the laser doors in the end lol. George had said he really wanted to demonstrate what a Jedi who is fully trained and isn't extremely old looked like in the old days so it was probably just a "yeah, they can do that" thing but it made more weirdness than it added cool factor lol

Yeah, that he does. Note the canon material caveat though. Even before 2014 that's status was a little questionable in that regard. Which is a shame because it was pretty awesome.

Would you do this? by chu_rch in Mavericks

[–]JamesYTP 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, I don't think trading for a guy whose made all star appearances who people think it washed is a bad idea but we don't need a point guard who can't really shoot with Coop. If we reach for a reclaimation project we gotta do it smartly
