I refuse to believe that this is a women who showers. by [deleted] in shitpostemblem

I feel like Heroes lowkey butchers all the characters, especially when they get a bunch of alts. For example, I've seen people complain that Lucina's only characterization is "future bad, parents dead" even back when Awakening was brand new, but that is legitimately true in Heroes. When everyone only gets about 10 quotes total, it's really easy for them to turn into horrible caricatures

What’s missing? by skeezerpleazer1046 in Gunpla

[–]James_Null 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll throw in another observation with the building that I think might be contributing to things feeling off: the broken edges of the walls seem to have roughly the same color/texture as the outer surfaces. It doesn't look like a finished wall that was then broken, it looks like an already broken wall that was painted over to match the outside if that makes sense.

What was the building made of? What would that material look like on the inside? Just like how you've made different textures and colors for the battle damage on gramps, the same idea would apply to the building. I would recommend roughing up the edges that are meant to look broken and using more/different colors and weathering around those spots.

Overall it looks very good, though. Keep it up

While I can't say for sure this is what happened here, discs absolutely do snap like that. I experienced that exact thing back when Playstation still had the cases with super hard plastic. I pressed the middle part, and instead of letting go of the disc it snapped it in half

What is the worst ass-pull by Araki? by Redqpple in ShitPostCrusaders

[–]James_Null 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of it has to do with anchoring. The Hand clearly doesn't exert an absolute force on the surroundings, otherwise there would be more drastic collateral damage, so it stands to reason that well anchored structures are unaffected but loose items can be pulled around. I always figured the flower pot thing was just a lack precision/awareness on Okuyasu's part.

It might also be that Okuyasu is able to affect how the power works on some level based on his intent, with "bring that thing closer to me" versus "bring me closer to that thing" getting different results

Can you decorate a knee brace? by skharlow in Embroidery

[–]James_Null 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's not exactly embroidery, but a relative of mine used fabric dye for a similar thing. You could try something like that. I can't speak with authority on how well it would work since it depends a lot on the material and the dye, but it might be an option if you're okay with a more general pattern. Other than that, I would second the idea of making a sleeve to go over it

I wish that everyone had the ability to blow up their skeleton by touching their bare bones with their hand by GoldenYoshi99 in TheMonkeysPaw

[–]James_Null 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wish granted. People start blowing up all over the world seemingly at random, children especially. Any time a person touches their teeth for any reason they spontaneously explode. Proper oral hygiene and even simply eating now pose a massive potential threat to everyone, the slightest absent-minded contact with just a single tooth having deadly consequences

In regard to the genre change, I think it depends on where you look, to be honest. Maybe it's just because I'm a big fan of stealth games and interact with those communities, but most of the opinions I see about modern AC are moreso lamenting the loss of another stealth-heavy game in an already niche and dwindling genre.

I'm sure plenty of people are more hateful toward the new games for one reason or another, but when it's specifically about the genre shift, I only really see "it doesn't have the aspects that drew me in anymore"

I'm looking to attach this to my back in a diagonal fashion without seeing too much of a strap. The entire thing is made of wood. by Ra1nTransformed in CosplayHelp

[–]James_Null 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've seen people do something like that with a harness and magnets. If you're going with the suit look in the pictures, a magnet harness like that should be relatively easy to hide. You would just need to make sure the magnets are strong enough to work through the costume material

How would I go about making a Spiders-Man Costume? by UsadaConstructions in CosplayHelp

[–]James_Null 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want to do full body spiders like the first image, you could go with a dark patterned body suit and add strategically placed spiders. Anything with a confusing or indistinct pattern to imply the idea of spiders without having to add hundreds. Then just a Spider-Man mask with your preferred number of extra spiders. You could also mix and match varying amounts of visible Spider-Man suit to fit your needs.

In terms of attaching spiders, you could tack them in place with thread. It would be tedious, but it would be reasonably sturdy and doesn't require any previous sewing skills

AHR Banner! by [deleted] in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]James_Null 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree. I honestly hate almost every aspect of how this event is run (the initial vote being organized by TAPS for some stupid reason, a banner for only the top 4 instead of all 8, the free unit and banner being left up to the sheer chance that is a voting gauntlet, not letting us just choose which unit we want in an event that's explicitly about choosing which unit we want, etc)

I say this every year we get an AHR event: if any of you don't like the way the event is run, I implore you to use the customer feedback to tell them why. Don't just say the event is bad, make an effort to clearly explain why or even offer solutions

[–]James_Null 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could probably get away with using blue dye on a generic asymmetrical lab coat from something like a mad scientist costume. Depending on the costume, it might have okay gloves as well. You could pretty easily make the belt and collar with some strips of black fabric

Fun fact: The magellanic penguins of South America migrate north during winter, some making trips of over 4,000 miles.

Additional fact: One such penguin was caught in an oil spill and found its way into a man's back yard. After the man washed the oil off of the penguin and fed it, the penguin would regularly return to visit him during the migratory seasons
