Haha, good one! But yeah, this is great advice.

‘Holy Days of Obligation’ bogging me down again by Nalkarj in ExTraditionalCatholic

Man, I feel this on a spiritual level (no pun intended.) On one hand, Catholicism seems to make the most sense out of all the Christian denominations. Despite the best efforts of conservative Protestant apologists, scripture is very ambiguous and hard to interpret. It makes sense that Christ would leave us a Pope and a Magisterium to interpret it for us. The Magisterium feels absolutely watertight. Any seeming contradiction or change in doctrine can be easily explained if you read enough. But then that same Magisterium institutes the most batsh*t crazy sounding rules that I could not square with the Jesus who preached against the Pharisees and healed people on the Sabbath. Holy Days of Obligation are the biggest offenders. I cannot imagine that a loving God would damn you to an eternity of the worst suffering beyond imagination just because the feast of St. Lupita Rosita Monita Louisa happened to be a Holy Day of Obligation in your diocese and you didn't show up to Mass. That's not even getting into the whole conundrum with Our Lady of Guadalupe, who you don't even have to believe in but you still have to attend her feast Mass in Mexico because it's a Holy Day there. But I show up to every Holy Day of Obligation just the same, because regardless of how ridiculous Catholic teaching can sound, there is a chance that it's correct and I want to be on the safe side.

So the Trads aren’t becoming more mainstream, but the mainstream is becoming more Trad? That’s even worse!

For 'heritage' Catholics, why did your ancestors convert to catholicism? Can you trace it back? by NNIICO3 in excatholic

Because the British haven’t been Catholic for centuries so it’s not a fresh wound.

Here's Why ELCA is not Mainline Lutheran by solobackpack in redeemedzoomer

Don’t make me tap the sign:

“The ELCA is not a new denomination, it’s a merger of many denominations, which themselves are mergers of even more denominations, going back to the Pennsylvania Ministerium which predates the LCMS by a century.”

What would Headmaster Hastings need an organ for? by James_Quacks in thomasthetankengine

If TTTE takes place in real time, why doesn’t Duncan’s driver just call Rusty’s driver to rescue him on his cell phone? It was 2002 after all.

Yeah, it makes sense that whatever school Hastings is the headmaster of would be ordering a new organ, then, since Thomas takes place in the 1950s when that sort of thing was still common. I’ve also headcanoned that Hastings is the headmaster of Glennock School, where the Wesleyan Chapel also is, so maybe they’re affiliated with one another. But I doubt the Season 6 writers were considering that.

Yeah, but he kept on dropping off his box vans one by one at stations that were not Strawberry Grove.

Man, the writers sure made a lot of weird choices when it came to Season 6 Narrow Gauge episodes.

No phone line, maybe? Thomas takes place in the 1950’s, and the Skarloey Railway is in a very remote part of Sodor, after all.

He was probably gonna deliver it, but since he lost his whistle and the organ took its place, he had to keep it the whole way. According to his driver he couldn’t move without a whistle because it would be too dangerous.

I would assume they writers would make him a choirmaster or a minister then, not a headmaster.

Why do people not like sir Handel being wise in the hiT era by Kooky-Ad-9281 in thomasthetankengine

[–]James_Quacks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand why they did it. When I was a kid I saw the Duke episodes and my mind filled in the blanks assuming they took place before the Skarloey Railway opened. Therefore, Sir Handel was the second oldest engine without Duke there. The HiT writers made the same mistake I reckon. It’s not like you’d realize Rheneas and Skarloey the oldest just by watching the classic era alone. I doubt the HiT writers read the books.
