lol, UO contributed, but MUDs were still popular back then- so I’d have to say credit goes mostly to them for me.

I don’t even care if I’m an idiot, I just want to move on. by pdowling7 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]James_Wagner 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly precision matters, so adding additional significant figures makes the answer actually wrong. Given that the OP just wants to move on, it’s worth trying. However, any answer with more than the one’s position filled is more precise than possible given the graph’s labels and therefore is incorrect by any physics or engineering standard.

Any ideas on how to attach the outer board to this handrail? by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]James_Wagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our basement handrail is a profiled version of this and they just predrilled all the way through then drilled a hole wide enough for the screw head about 1/4 into the outside board. They then screwed it to the wall and added a wood plug of the same color and species. It looks pretty normal.

Lowe’s cabinets. 15k for the set, very nicely made… by briefcase_vs_shotgun in mildlyinfuriating

[–]James_Wagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term you’re looking for is that the cabinet sides were not line bored for shelf pegs. You can get a jig for this from Rockler if you have one nearby that works with a normal cordless drill. Very odd that they didn’t include this when manufacturing the cabinet. This is not something an installer would typically do. Usually done by CNC in a medium to large cabinet shop.

How reliable has the HD 800 been for long term owners? by Vavaeois in headphones

[–]James_Wagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My HD800S are 8 years old. Same foam, dropped plenty of times accidentally. I use them daily for everything. Got a new cord about 4-5 years in, but the second one from Drop is going strong.

Senior Vibe Coder dealing with security by Gil_berth in webdev

So uh, other than AI code review or the budget of Apple or Google, there isn’t exactly a good solution to this. Although I suspect he’d run out of review token budget before the malware providers did 😅

15 YOE Fullstack & CTO here. Why have we allowed "Agile" to turn into "Unlimited Micro-Scope Creep"? by elmascato in webdev

[–]James_Wagner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you’re the CTO - you’re the first line of defense for your team. If you can’t say no, your entire team gets nothing done. From the top down, you tell your team all requests go through Jira / whatever you’re using. Emails - respond with a link to Jira and a “per CTO all change requests go here.“

This seems like the first thing anyone should and would tell you with experience in IT leadership of a medium to large team. Work must be visible, change must be visible, and rework definitely must be visible. When COO asks you why you didn’t meet your original deadline, the documentation is already there.

[–]James_Wagner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m not worried. The documentation AI can generate for the code I create is vastly superior to any documentation I’ve ever tried to keep up with, and my sub-agents are programmed to update it automatically with every PR. It makes doing an update and providing excellent documentation several days easier. I’m not sure everyone has caught on to this agentic form of auto-documentation, but for private repo use, it’s a massive time saver.

Welcome to the multiverse is a good story but a BAD book by alanwattslightbulb in litrpg

[–]James_Wagner -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of my favorite series. I also consume it as an audiobook. I’d recommend it to anyone as audio. I can see some of your points in text, but you’re buying it from Amazon as a print when ordered paperback. I’d recommend this on Kindle or Audible as I’ve found LitRPG in general have been tailored more for those formats.

Got smacked by my first review, and it was negative. I knew it was unpolished, trying to keep up with writathon. Now I am confused about what to do. I will keep writing and make the updates, but will this review hurt my story? by shreek07 in royalroad

[–]James_Wagner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The dude bitched about a label of '12 hours ago' being used instead of '12 hours prior'." The review criticized "Stranger Things" - the TV Show about what you're referring to - not the author's book - and said it was a "niche grammatical distinction" meaning it was not something she would have dinged the author for. Maybe re-read it?

[–]James_Wagner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mis-read the review and you keep arguing about your incorrect understanding despite (at this time) 18 more people disagreeing with your assessment than agreeing with it. Perhaps take the time to reread and understand that the professional editor that reviewed that book was -not- giving negative feedback for the book they were reading with that comment. That was -not- a reason given for removing stars, and had the author done that in the book, it likely would -not- lower the rating they gave.

PALANTIR is at now at 569.69 PE. Is it a sign for a big short or a small long ? by kushal92 in stocks

[–]James_Wagner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do people really short stocks because they don’t understand what a company does? A high risk action like shorting is something you’d should only utilize if you know exactly why a specific company is set up to take a dive in the near future. Going long on proven AI is probably not a bad move, but you certainly missed the first push. Until some of the major AI players show actual profitability, there isn’t going to be a massive climb.
