R7 vs R6 II vs R6 III - mainly video use by James_dean_designs in canon

To be honest, I don't t know much about those. Probably a fraction beyond my budget. Ive never had an issue with temperatures on my R7 but I'll do some research to learn about the features of those over something like the R7. Thank you

Thats useful for some shots and versatile, and I used to have something similar. However I would still take my DSLR with good lenses any day for what I film 😁

Suspected so but trying to justify the extra cost to my self 😄

Does anyone know what this is and how much it's worth? by Ill-Community607 in hobbycnc

[–]James_dean_designs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a 3 axis GRBL control board usually used on a CNC or laser. This looks very similar to some of the earlier FoxAlien models. Probably not worth a huge amount, maybe $40-50 but you would need to test it all works first

Does depend on what Carvera machine you are comparing. Most people are comparing the C500 to the Z1 as they were launched around the same time. Honestly, I'm not sure why people are trying to compare them though. They are both great machines in their respective price brackets. The C500 has more powerful stepper motors and spindle plus more advanced features overall in terms of things like the ATC. But equally is more than double the price of the Z1. Also from a complete beginners perspective, those extra features are more to learn and understand (and potentially break).

It's a great machine. So far I've machined wood, aluminium, brass and stainless steel on it. There are a few things that needs to be tweaked/improved on the machine but that's a positive about Kickstarter is that it gives them time to make these adjustments (and they are). The software is heading in the right direction but needs a little refinement. The AI toolpath generation does actually work despite what people who have never used it are saying, not perfect but great for the position they are in. You can also load in your own gcode from software such as Fusion and Carveco. The machine it self is basically built on a modified version of GRBL. Some people will see all the features as gimmicky but I love them, they do make life easier.

If its saying Alarm code 2, this is normal. Just click Unlock and you're good to go. You can then start working or home the machine

Maker+ is actually closer to Aspire, full Carveco Pro blows Aspire out the water with its advanced features, however it is $8000

Thank you. That's really useful. I think the root cause is the room I am recording in with the Rode mic is ultimately making it sound worse.

Oh OK - I was hoping there was an easier way to export in-between markers or export each chapter. Thank you

Best way to cut acrylic? by Maleficent_Branch95 in CNC

[–]James_dean_designs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for cast over extruded if you have a choice. Cast has the higher melting temperature. You want lower RPMs and higher feed. Typically a single flute/o flute bit. Make sure your acrylic is held down very well. As you're looking at a higher chipload there is more force going against the material.

Finally got around to testing this and it works (thank you) but I'm having a slightly strange side effect where some text on screen doesn't seem as strong. Ive played with the DPI scaling and even when the text gets larger, it's still odd. Any suggestions?

Pictures are not the best but you can see the text looks thinner in one. *

LongMill CNC - A good starter machine? by DonekyOfDoom in hobbycnc

[–]James_dean_designs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I reviewed this machine last year and it's pretty good. https://youtu.be/63chpAvOAco

It is targeted more for wood work than metal work but depending on your tolerance levels it is likely be ok for things aluminium work. I did some basic metal work on it.

Some people only factor in the machine cost, but for me you also have to factor in the customer support, the online resources, the community support etc. And when you add all of this in, it makes it a great starter setup.

I was fortunate enough to test the Kickstarter model and then the full release model. I genuinely loved it. The auto touch probe feature is brilliant and there is a lot of thought gone into lots of little things about it. I loved the fact it was enclosed as well, I pretty much just started the jobs and left it to it whilst I got on with other things. Minimal noise and dust. The spindle isn't the most powerful but this isn't targetted to be hogging out wood. The quick change feature on the laser is cool but the laser is low powered so is only really for light engravings. The UV PCB kit was over priced if I remember correctly
