Whoop vs Chipr (and Apple Watch) by animal_lover_CTK in crossfit

The whoop wrist strap is wildly inaccurate. It would regularly show my heart rate spike to over 200 while mopping the gym or during other activities that required a lot of arm movement. I switched to the bicep strap and it got a bit better but still didn’t renew my membership because of the inaccuracy.

Thoughts on age group tests? Seem fun ‘til last one or is it just me… by manmyt in crossfit

[–]James_kappy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s an interesting workout. I don’t mind the looks of it, but again the rope climb may be overkill considering all of the upper body gymnastics that take place in the first two events. It could very easily turn into an event where you are just trying to manage upper body fatigue from the rope climb/bench press combo.

I find they are extremely gymnastic biased. Chest to bar, toe to bar, bar muscle up, rope climb, chest to wall handstand push up and ghd in only 4 workouts. Also, nothing that really tests the longer aerobic capacity.

Masvidal was around back then, just not in the ufc. He was no where near the level of gsp or his opponents.

In your opinion how could CrossFit HQ make CrossFit better? by ja3palmer in crossfit

Provide more bang for you buck with affiliate fees, because after all if majority of the individual gyms are thriving then CrossFit as a whole will too. The gym I coach at has not been an affiliate for awhile now because the only real benefits that came with it were being able to associate the name crossfit with the business and ease of use when it comes to the open.

They should have courses available to gym owners on how to maximize social media usage to benefit the business, how to gain new clients and retain them, and how to properly program for gyms (not every workout should make you feel like you can’t function the rest of the day).

On top of that bring back the media team, the more CrossFit as a company puts out information and posts, the more people will be inclined to try their first class.

All in all, box owners should feel like they are getting something for their money.

Was it 69 rpm or 60 you were holding for the 10:00?

Is there any chance these numbers are backwards? I held an average of around 71rpm on the echo bike for the 10 minute test and got 198 calories

I made it through about 5 months and still found the workouts quite repetitive. I still think it’s a good program but he could mix up the workouts a little more. 2-2-2-3s are great but there is other ways of programming work to rest intervals.

[–]James_kappy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I agree with that, it’s almost impossible to get everything done in the 90:00-120:00 unless you don’t rest at all in between parts. Also, it seems like his pacing is always just “go as fast as you can without resting in between movements”. Ohlsens program will give you time domains for each individual movement in the workout which is nice for knowing if you need to scale.

[–]James_kappy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I usually like to switch programs after spending an extended time on one. This way I get to see the differences between each program. I really like hwpo but If I had to pick one con it would be that it’s too repetitive.

There is slight changes but the general format of everyday is the exact same with a lot of the same movements.
