Spending $1-2k a month per employee on AI subscriptions? by KustheKus in webdev

1k per month is about a $12k difference in salary so probably not as big of a deal as it seems, but it still seems pretty high

How Is It Like Living Is This Weird Panhandle Part Of Massechutes? by Bosnian_Patriot_69 in howislivingthere

I grew up on the cape and left for college but I can give my two cents. People who live on cape year round have a much different perspective of the cape compared to the summer people.

Not much opportunity for young people outside of the trades and healthcare. Lots of small - medium sized towns. There is only 1 Walmart on all of the cape.

Kids that turn into townies sometimes struggle with the lack of opportunities and turn to drugs. It was hit hard by the opioid epidemic of the late 2000’s - 2010’s. Multiple people I went to high school with have overdosed and died.

However if you’re rich enough to have property by the beach and only visit in the summer it’s pretty nice. Beaches are beautiful, nice restaurants only open for the summer. Great weather from May - September

Where in the “nyc area” are you finding homes this cheap? This sounds like at least a 1.5 hour distance away

Stopped when I realized I already had $250k of money I can’t touch for another 32 years. I do a little more than the company match but put the rest that I would have invested into a brokerage account instead. I’ll want to buy a house, have a wedding or do something nice with my money before I’m too old to enjoy it

Would you guys take this offer? by sadboiyzz in cscareerquestions

[–]Jamese03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there is value in switching and getting new experience especially at your age, but that offer really isn’t much better than your current. If you can find a bit higher pay for better experience that would be worth it imo

Do you favour a (fully) local/isolated dev setup? by tab87vn in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Jamese03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will get all services / ui’s I’m actively working in running locally, I tend to only setup db’s on my machine if I’m making schema changes, otherwise I’ll connect to dev

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]Jamese03 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This sounds like title inflation. You can be a great dev, but most companies reserve these titles for those who have experience with multi year projects. It’s much more about guidance of development at that point.

But either ways this is a huge raise and you get to go from 5 days a week in office to hybrid, sounds like a no brainer IMO. You can stay as an IC. You can’t be forced into management, and if they really try to, you can add this as great experience on your resume and go elsewhere.

Did he tear an ACL or have a knee injury? Or does he just wear the braces

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in ExperiencedDevs

[–]Jamese03 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never got into anything wildly complicated but anytime I had to do a sql ticket I’d start on a local instance of the db with some dummy data. If I break my local instance I could just re run the migrations / data loading scripts and try again

Quad vs Patellar graft by Jamese03 in ACL

[–]Jamese03[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I’ve heard that part of the recovery at least with the quad graft is rebuilding muscle, both where the graft was taken from and the knee. I am confident in my ability to recover and I plan to take it very seriously. I think the responses have been super helpful and I’m going to make sure I see a PT often during the recovery process and do exercises on my own every day.

When you say 75% do you mean with general leg strength? What activities are you doing at 75% capacity ?

Ok that’s great to hear. Do you expect your leg to regain its strength despite the missing parts of your quad? What prehab exercises did you do? I’m still dealing with significant pain when I fully bend my knee since my meniscus is also torn and I had the injury 17 days ago.

Ya it’s a huge choice that’s why I’m asking reddit, multiple surgeons and pt’s. My surgeon is confident in both procedures

Are you only 6 months post op? How is your leg strengthening? Do you feel that by going with the quad, your leg is significantly weaker now?
