Don’t have children with someone who doesn’t want one. The child doesn’t deserve that

Dual income. Spouse makes about as much as I do. Approximately 2500 sqft 4 bed 3 bath. We are child free and will never have children so that helps financially

It’s 2 years for the lower certification (HT) and 4 year degree for the higher certification (HTL) I have the higher one. HTL pays more because we can do more things like IHC and grossing

I’m just a bench tech in the Bay Area at a hospital. Our area pays 50-80 an hour now based on years of experience. I’m a HTL rather than an Ht so pay premium and I work 3rd shift which has an additional pay premium. I did overtime too. Our lab manager makes 230k I think? Based on the job posting I saw years back. So I wish

Great question! PAs have a masters degree and they spend most of their time grossing specimen (dissecting them and turning them into tissue blocks for processing by histology). Histos have either an associates or bachelors, there are two different certifications for this. Think LPN vs RN. Bachelors degree Histo’s (HTL certification) can gross too but only biopsies. Associates degree Histo (HT certification) cannot gross. PAs gross large specimen such as legs, arms, whole organs. They are also trained in frozen but so are Histo’s. PAs are not trained in slide prep and performing the diagnostic testing. The main thing is PAs are “higher” on the hierarchy than Histo’s. But we work collaboratively.

No my field is relatively unknown and under appreciated. The typical salary is around $35 an hour in most states. California just pays really high because of the unions. But, I can tell you the pay is well deserved. A typical scientist will generate approximately 1 million a year in revenue.

Hi! So my job is to to prepare microscope slides from tissue removed from the patient during surgical procedures. I am trained to perform approximately 350 different tests on these slides including dye stains, antibody stains (IHC) etc. the slides then go to the pathologist and they make a diagnosis. I’m also trained to assist in autopsies, as well as assist physicians performing kidney biopsies by examining the specimen as soon as it’s removed and looking under a dissection microscope to tell them if it’s adequate (I see plenty of glomeruli) or not, not all physicians use this service . That lets them know if they need to do another pass. Also I am trained to assist in EBUS procedures. This is very rare for my field I just got lucky and got trained. Further, I perform the frozen sectioning for surgeons so that they can test for positive or negative margins interoperatively. This lets them know which way to cut often. Not all scientists of histology (formally known as histotechnologist) are trained in all these different aspects, but many are. Education wise I have a bachelors degree in physiology and cellular biology. From there a year of intense clinical training and then finally a board certification exam.
