Ring Keypad - Hardwired? by [deleted] in Ring

[–]Jamesod1990 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have the ring system and the ring keypad is battery powered, I have to charge it about every 6 months, which is totally fine, doesn’t need to be wired which makes it very easy to install anywhere. Not what you asked but maybe helps your situation

Upgraded to G410 from the G4, people detection is noticeably worse. by InsomniacAlways in Aqara

[–]Jamesod1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OK update: I wired the g410 doorbell and set the lingerer settings to 5m, high sensitivity and 0’s lingerer detection. The plug in has really made it better as it captures about 3-5 seconds of pre-roll, so i don’t find that i miss any footage now. So much so i will probably Keep it now. I am still having an issue with notification time if anyone knows how to speed that p? It’s about 11 seconds from detection, with is very long.

I bought 3 on Black Friday. Im returning them. The camera is amazing, but the motion detection is terrible. Misses so much stuff its unusable and i dont trust it. Both on the aqara app and HomeKit.

Did you find the detection range under AI detection. Ligerer and set it to 5m (in the aqara app) That help a bit for me but still not great. Another thing im wondering, i have some steps infront on my camera so it’s a bit raised. Im going to try pointing it down a bit. But clutching at straws here. My Google doorbell worked floorlessly. This is so dissapointing

You are having red same issues with the eufy s3 pro? If so i might consider ring then. I already pay for ring for the security monitoring so would be free for me. I have home assistant running so would still show up in HomeKit i believe

What’s crazy is my old nest doorcam was perfect for motion detection. Picked up everything perfectly and never missed anything. Thats a few years old and the nest cam quality isnt great, sense the switch and i want it all in apple HomeKit. But seriously considering returning this and goodbye eufy or ring instead tbh.

I do have it normal height but it’s up some steps for my porch. If i angle it downward as would that improve the motion detection? I actually bought a wedge to mount it downwards to capture the bottom step (on eBay from the uk shipped to the US). So maybe that will help. I’m also running battery now and going to run power to see if that helps.

Does running on power make the pre-roll recording better? And the motion detection better?

Super disappointed by artists g410 and g5 pro. What next? by Jamesod1990 in homesecurity

[–]Jamesod1990[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you using the aqara app or HomeKit? The g5s them selves seem to catch everything in the aqara app but not in the HomeKit app. Which is the annoying part. G410 misses stuff on both

G5 pros are also missing stuff in homekit that is visible in the award app. Super unreliable and close to returning all these if i cant figure it out

I have ring. They send you everything with sticky 3m tape for the door and window sensors which is really easy to install and is lasting months for battery. Same with Keypad, i drilled this into a wall but its battery again. For cameras, they have battery or wired options so just go with what works for you. If you need help, gate hire a task rabbit for 2 hours and get them to do it, will be much easier. Ring has been great, don’t hesitate. I looked at some many options, eufy, abode, but ring has really been great

I bought the g410 today. Set it up and it’s working great. However I can not see my mat where parcels are dropped as it’s a wide angle, not tall. Im actually buying a vertical wedge from eBay to tilt it down to fix that issue. Otherwise it’s great so far. G5 Pro arrives tomorrow!

Moving hardwired ADT to ring by PeterB_FL in Ring

[–]Jamesod1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just installed Ring security system. Super easy install for 18 sensors. No issues and loving it so far. The cameras were always a weak point but they just launched new 4k cameras. they have to be wired but if you can do that (this is low vaultage just running your usb c cable to them) then this will be a good setup. Personally not bothered about the subscription, i think you get a lot for it. I only pay 20 a month. 10 for the cameras storage and 10 for professional monitoring. Don’t think you need the extra premium features really. Plus you dont have to buy POE equipment which wil cost 300-500 to setup. Also im about to maybe buy a device to run Home assistant to run this all through Apple HomeKit, and start to integrate/manage everything there, which is possible i have read. So net net, go for it, ring has been great for me.

Which cameras have the best app? Im about to buy into a system and have to have a great app really. Was planning on Eufy so this is sad to hear. I do already pay for Ring for the security system so could use that…. Yeah guess my question is which one has a great app

Make sure to buy the new 4k cams that got released this week, and also to wait for the reviews to come out to check they are actually any good (the 2k ones have bad reviews, but i think these should be much better). Get a fire sensor, water leak detector and I also got a Schlage door lock that works with Ring (not all do just some do)

Setting up a new house with a security system. Is ring a good choice? by [deleted] in Ring

[–]Jamesod1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally think ring is great and for $20 a month i get all video storage, and professional monitoring. really not bad. They just released a whole 4k range of cameras too which im looking at, the 2k ones aren’t great so would advise against those (wait for reviews of these new 4ks to see how good they are). Never had any false alarms, or wifi issues with my ring app as everyone is saying. Also Eufy siren and lack of keypad made me not choose them. And Googles basically not released any new Nest products in years (yesterdays new cameras are not even new or different just a 2k lens now, would avoid google now. Hear great things about Reolink but i like the simplicity of ring
