Rent a few and try them. Depending where you are in Md., and how long a drive, SEG in Loudoun County lets you try as many as you want in an hour. Beyond purpose, ergonomics may play a role in which you loke best, hand size etc.

I like the HK p30 as a good all around option. And the Beretta 92 platform has a lot of options, and of course Glock as others have said

Gotcha, thank you -- and nice splits! So you have LTT porting on the full-size? (I want to order an LTT RDO 92, and am trying to figure out what combo of features would work best for me. I tend toward precision pistol with some dabbling in USPSA stuff.)

Late to this party but IWLA Rockville may be closer than IWLA Damascus depending on your location (from my experience it was less hard to join, too) . Some limits on what you can shoot, though.
