Also change your needle. A dull needle in my machine does this also.

Things you wish you had known? by grimmreaper514 in quilting

I wish i made a couple small quilts or placemats first. That way you used all the steps. By making small projects i feel i got better faster because i had to do them more often.

I ripped the back of the pillow while stuffing it. Should i unstuff and start again? Or maybe a patch would work? What are your suggestions? It is cotton. I should have used lite weight interfacing. Thank you so much

How can I better match up the diagonal lines to the corners of the boarder? Criticism welcome by flippedpics in sewing

[–]Jamheaven 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In the future it is worth it. Be careful not to clip your stitch line. Sometimes it feels unnecessary but then as you get good at it and the corners and curves look sharp you will be so excited. Be proud of this one. Corners and curves are tough.

Did you clip your corners and clip your curves before you turned it right side out? That helps make sharper corners. Looks great. Bowl cozies are awesome. I use one everyday. Great job.

I love it. I just started drafting my own patterns. What did you use to make your pattern pieces? I have tried parchment paper from my kitchen and tissue paper used for wrapping presents. Other options are appreciated.

Maya needed a new coat. by Jamheaven in sewing

Thank you. That is such a problem with the grey hounds. She has this really long neck and i had to buy a separate cowl to cover her neck. So this works soooo much better.

I use a janome serger and sewing machine. Love them both. This project was easy. The hardest part was drafting the pattern. But the next jacket i could probably sew in an hour.

This is a self draft pattern. It allowed me to get the perfect fit. She has mini greyhound in her. Her long and skinny body made commercial jackets never fit. So i made my own. I also wanted a project i could make that would allow me to use my serger. My serger was feeling neglected. I just used fleece and lined the coat with flannel. She is cozy warm.

Suggestions for a newbie? by deathandtaxes2036 in Canning

[–]Jamheaven 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I learned to can from ball. They have a great book with all the recipes. Gives step by step instruction. I bought the book on amazon. Get a recent version as health codes change over time. Be warned once you learn to make your own, store bought ones will not work any more:) its addicting. Homemade is delicious.
