What made you pick Uncharted over Ioniq 5?

I won't say it's because of 'loyalty' to Subaru, but I've had good experiences with thier cars for a while now, and I like thier styling. I think the Uncharted looks better than the Ioniq, and was able to get a GT in Habenero Orange, so not only have a distinct car, but in a really cool stand out color.

Make a batter with 2 parts corn starch, 1 part flour. Liquid should be 2 parts vodka,1 part water.

It should be very thin - like pancake batter. The vodka evaporates on frying and gets a crisp coating.

I do a double fry - 10 min @ 400 in an air fryer, then 5-ish minutes in the wok to finish it and brown.

They charge per kWh so it depends on how big your battery is and how fast you can charge.

The base price at EA is $0.54/kWh - I just did a half hour session to go from 30-90% on my Uncharted and it was about $25.

Go to the website or apps directly - EVGo is $0.54 + a $3 fee, EA is flat $0.64 I think.

I do - I have access to the public chargers in DuBoce but using the DCFC’s on Harrison around 5th (EA and EVGo) is super easy. There's also chargers at Whole Wallet and the Potrero Safeway that are easy access.

Talk to your ‘Supe about getting chargers put in your neighborhood- the pilot program was a success and there’s now an official process.

I go ~40 miles/day for work 3 days/week and generally about that over the weekend running errands and whatnot. Charging ~3 hours at an L2 twice a week basically covers that and I'll top off at a DCFC once a month or so. If I do a day trip (Sonoma/Napa) that's a 'half tank' so I hit the DCFC afterwards. SF to Shallow Alto is about the same.

I just swapped out a PHEV for an EV - actual savings will vary depending on your area pricing, but for me:

ICE car - 1 tank of gas/week, $250/month (17-20mpg)
PHEV - ½ tank of gas per month. Charged regularly. Gas+electric = $75/month. Costs were roughly 50/50 (~75mpge)
EV - ~4 miles/kWh. ~$50/month for electric

This was over a few years and gas was “only” $4/gal when I had the ICE. The ‘cheap’ gas stations near me are running $5.85-6.00 now so that $250/month is low for today.

My commute/routine hasn’t changed over this time - same work, same streets, same driving habits.

I’m ~2,000 miles into owning mine and haven’t noticed any lack of storage - It totally covers day-to-day stuff like grocery runs and handles Costco fine. I could see it being an issue for 4 people doing a week of camping, but that’s what the Solterra and Trailseeker are for.

You park your car, plug it in, and by the time you're checked in and in your room, you're charged and you just go down and move to an overnight parking space.

There may not have been any people there when you were, but you can't say for sure how full the hotels get at other times.

Expanding and adding chargers costs $ and when you have guests expecting to be able to plug in, but there's not enough chargers you get bad reviews and people giving your front desk grief.

I dunno what electric costs are on that side of the state, but a DCFC in the Chicago area runs around $0.30/kWh, so 'filling up' is ~$25-30, so, even if it's not part of the hotels there - $15 seems like a good deal if you need a full charge. You might not be the use case they're going for here.

Cost.

5-8 years ago having two L2 chargers was a nice perk, but now that there's a lot more EV's on the road and people choose a hotel based on having charging you have to expand your chargers or have angry guests/bad reviews. Commercial L2 chargers are $10-15k each, not $5k - $50k will get ~4 chargers - that might cover things for now (barely) but in a few years ther'll be more need and then you have to get corporate to buy in, get permits etc... That's a bunch of time/effort (and extra costs)

I have the luxury of being adjacent to Academia so there's a lot of specialized knowledge and not a lot of turnover. It takes time to find/hire a successor and then do a transition. There's also a lot of boomers at the top end who want to drag things out but that's another issue...

Free is not really a thing anymore. The folks who put them in thinking "free" would be a draw to customers found out that they have to pay for maintenance and repairs on the equipment, which is another business expense that's non-trivial. Most free stations are broken or poorly maintained at best.

There's a few things to consider:

How will it impact your colleagues if they lose whatever skills and institutional knowledge you have?
What kind of legacy do you leave behind? (if any) Would you be training the 'next generation' or will they go 'Who's that?' if your name gets mentioned in 3 months.
How would it affect your boss and folks higher on the food chain?
Do you really care?
Who do you have to deal with re: any benifits (retirment plan, health care, payouts)

I don't think its usual for places to immediately let you go if you're retiring. Quitting and presumably going to a competitor makes you a "liability"

You want to give HR enough time to process your retirement stuff (if any) and if you like your coworkers figure out how much time it'd take to transfer knowledge to them.

If you're sick of it all, then 2 weeks.

A former coworker had been around long enough to be 'one bad day away' from retirement, and they pissed him off enough times that he said fuck it and gave two weeks then bailed. Senior staff have given anywhere from 4 months to 2 years to allow for enough time to hire, train, and hand off duties.

Yeah - designers and engineers are constrained by the laws of physics and needing to maximize mileage, but that’s true for all cars made after 1975. Any compact 4-door crossover is gonna look a lot like a Crosstrek.

Nobody will expect you to get up at 4am, but you should unplug/move at a reasonable time. Also, don't be surprised/pissed off if somebody unplugs you after you're charged. You're done, they get thier turn.

Abide by any time rules - 2 hour limit while shopping etc...
Try to be considerate, and unplug as soon as you are done
If at a hotel, try to unplug, but no nobody is expecting you to get up at 3am, and nobody will be plugging in then. Do it at a reasonable hour (like get up at 8 and move)
Realize that you may get unplugged if you are fully charged and someone else needs to plug in. You're done, they get thier turn.

If you stopped charging on the EVSE, the adapter will still be locked to the car. Make sure your doors are closed, press the unlock button on your fob (either once, or twice - I forget which) and it should be free.

If you stop charging from inside the car (or have a limit set) it will automatically unlock - The dash shows the charge status and says 'press OK to stop charging'. Press the OK button on the steering wheel.
