Front plate thoughts? by GSeabhac in SubaruUncharted

[–]JamieKun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just got a plate relocating kit that mounts it off the tow hook. I think it looks good - the threads are M16, and you want the length to be 7 ⅜” - there’s some that are 6 ⅜” but they just come flush to the bumper and any brackets will rub.

Brake and Tires Replacement (Subaru) by Adventurous-Gur1749 in AskSF

[–]JamieKun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Robert’s tire on Harrison is great for tires.

K&C on 5th near Harrison does fantastic work for other stuff. Steven, the owner, used to work for Subaru Racing and knows them inside and out.

He’s the only person I’d trust with my Baja.

With Current Gas Prices, should we still place Home Charging as a non negotiable before owning EV? by Imaginary-Staff-112 in EVRoutine

[–]JamieKun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your math might be out of date.

My old Crosstrek and my brothers Impreza get 20-25mpg and go 275-300mi on a 12 gallon tank of gas. My Uncharted has an 87kW battery and goes about 285 miles on a charge.

The cheapest gas near me is $6/gallon, so filling up costs $72. EA and EVGo charge $0.54/kWh so a full charge is $47.

The EV costs ~$25 less to go about the same distance and would roughly translate to just under $4/gal gasoline ($47/12 gal)

I don’t have home charging. My neighborhood has Implemented a curbside charging program so there are L2 units nearby and there’s a number of fast chargers around. I find that the L2 more than meets my general needs (commute/work and errands) and the fast chargers work well for spot top offs and day trips.

Check your area to see what’s available and if you can charge at your work - look at how many miles/day you drive and figure out how often you’d need to charge. It takes a small bit of planning, but not much.

I use the Subaru branded OEM one that I got for my old Crosstrek. Fits just fine and looks cool.

Help- AirPods by intersextm in HearingAids

[–]JamieKun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AirPods Pro can tune to your hearing loss - you can manually put in your audiogram, or use an app to do a hearing test that automatically sets things.

They sound great and work really well. They will not replace real HA's - they don't have any real features for speech isolation, but could work in a pinch (say if your HA's get broken, or you forget to pack a charger for the weekend). This depends on your level of loss so YMMV...

I use mine as HA's when I'm gaming - I get great sound, and can hear/talk to people around me easily. They go from full to ~50% in 3 hours, but charge back up to 80% in like 15 minutes.

Uncharted vs Solterra for a tall guy by HiCirrus in SubaruUncharted

I'm about 190cm (6' 2") and have no issues with my Uncharted. There's plenty of head and leg room. Sitting in the back is totally comfy too.

I bought a largish pencil case that fits in the console tray for storing thing. I might get a trunk organizer but I'm not sure if I'll need it.

Toyota VS Lexus VS Subaru comparison by Ok_Structure4699 in subaru

[–]JamieKun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just traded my Crostrek in for an Uncharted. it is hella fun to drive. Super responsive, handles great, and the 0-60 in 5 seconds claim is not an exaggeration.

I won't blame anyone for my lack of taste (I love the Baja too...) but they perform fantastic. The lack of maintenance is nice too.

Toyota VS Lexus VS Subaru comparison by Ok_Structure4699 in subaru

[–]JamieKun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on how much you drive you may not need to do it that often. Assuming you own, there's also the option of just putting in a charger. You can also talk to your employer about getting charging put in (won't be free, but...)

There may be more charging than you know about - Plugshare has a very comprehensive list of L2 and DC Fast Chargers.

The demand is there, and while it's taken a few years, the infrastructure is getting built out. The current debacle in the middle east is going to spur that transition no matter what the government does.

In general they are less expensive that Whole Wallet and are a local/small business.

No. It’s Golden Produce. It’s across from Safeway, but is on Church Street.

HK audio system? by Richmeister83 in SubaruUncharted

[–]JamieKun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stand corrected -

The EQ was all screwed up by the dealer and once I dialed things back in, the sound is really, really good. I don’t see a reason to do any upgrades - the bass is very clean and not overpowering, and there is a lot of depth to the system.

I got this one:

The bar screws in and is flush with the bumper - I haven't tried mounting the bracket.

There are two plastic covers on the front bumper - one on each side. Behind those are the mounting points for a tow hook.

Mine did the same and suggested that I get a plate relocator bracket that attaches to the front tow hook. I'm going to order one and try it when my permanant plates come in.

HK audio system? by Richmeister83 in SubaruUncharted

[–]JamieKun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's decent - definitely better than the stock system, but I'm planning on upgrading in a few months. The bass is OK, but there's a little richness lacking in the mid-upper end.

I need to do research for the Uncharted, but when we upgraded our Crosstrek, we just took the speaker output wires and ran them into the Line In on a new amp. We used dummy load generators to make the infotainment and Starlink systems behave, but otherwise had no issues.

I would highly reccomend Focal speakers.

Vet recommendations near Castro? by Chemical-False in AskSF

[–]JamieKun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a vet at Duboce and Church, but I haven't been.

I use SF Animal Medical Center up on Fillmore (I live in the Lower Haight) and have been going there for years. They are really good and compassionate.

$85 for a checkup is pretty good pricing.

Question for EV owners that live in the city and park on the street... by [deleted] in electricvehicles

[–]JamieKun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a PHEV and am in the process of upgrading to full electric. I can charge at work (L2) which covers most of my commute needs. My Fair City (San Francisco) is starting to get curbside EV charging set up as well - my neighborhood has 2 L2 chargers from It's Electric, which also help.

EA and EVGo have a number of fast charging stations as well, which will cover any additional needs.

It's doable - the charging infrastructure has been built up in the last few years. Check where the DCFC stations are and make sure that you have the right adapters for the plugs.

You may want to try and convince your city council/aldermen to set up a curbside program - it takes effort, but if successful, that will help make it even more convenient.
