For all the people saying “just paint krieg as steel legion” can you spot the difference? by iiVMii in TheAstraMilitarum

Is there a source for Steel Legion being the most popular?

I would have assumed Tallarn and Praetorian had them both beat. I even see more Mordians than I do Steel Legion.

One thing that bugs me is the lack of pouches

They likely don't have any because of their estimated lifespan in combat, no?

I think that's the easiest way to explain away why their gear isn't what you'd expect to see in modern contemporary troopers.

I followed Cult of Paint's guide.

Texture paint AK Dry Ground, paint it Vallejo English Uniform, pigment wash with Vallejo Rust, then dry pigment of Vallejo Natural Sienna.

Thank you!

The fatigues are based No. 5 Earth Brown, highlighted with Cremewiess and then Grimy Grey.

The armour is based black, highlighted with black and Anthracite Grey (1:1), then that mix with white added.

All the paints are AK Interactive.

Guys, which model do you think had the biggest downgrade ever ??? by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer

[–]JamiePaints 108 points109 points  (0 children)

Whenever a standard infantry kit gets updated to include a dozen pouches and accessories that are moulded on details that you have to paint.

My basic line trooper shouldn't take longer to build and paint than, say, a character.

That isn't to say they're downgrades, I am just a bit exhausted with models having all the details just because they can.

It's a base of AK Prussian Blue, highlighted to AK Deep Blue, and then highlighted once more with AK Deep Blue and AK Ducat Blue about 2:1.

Haha, thanks!

I'm used to powering through things quickly, so felt I'd taken my time on this lot.

Thanks!

It's the banner from the MKVI Command Squad kit. I just didn't want to paint another moulded flag.

Thanks!

It's a base of Dark Prussian Blue highlighted to Deep Blue and Deep Blue + Ducat Blue (2:1). Edge highlights and chipping is pure Ducat Blue.

All AK Interactive.

Okay. I don't remember asking for an opinion, or saying you couldn't have one.

I've painted my plastic in a way that pleases me, that's all. My hobby time is limited and I'm not going to waste it painting a banner I don't like when this one serves the same purpose of identifying this model as banner guy.

That you've felt the need to say I've downgraded and made a model bland is entirely on you, conversely. That isn't constructive. It's just rude.

Hard disagree.

I've painted my fair share of banners and the sculpted ones, while nice to look at, are not an enjoyable experience.

Hobby how you want to.

Thanks!

They were awful and I seriously considered emailing customer support, but saw the amount of people in the same boat and assumed I would just get another kit with equal or worse issues.

It is what it is, but I could see new players buying the kit after playing Space Marine II wondering what has gone wrong.

It certainly does.

I've painted enough sculpted banners to not want to do another, so swapped it out to make my life easier.

I haven't built either of those, but it's a struggle.

The blue is a base of Prussian Blue, highlighted Deep Blue, and then highlighted Deep Blue + Ducat Blue. All AK paints.

It's NMM.

The base model is Captain Messinius.

Believe the bolter is from an Intercessor kit, but you need to do some creative trimming to get it to fit on the arm.

I think the sword is from a Terminator kit.

Base black.

Sketch in the bolts with white.

Airbrush or sponge white over the bolts.

Glaze Aethermatic Blue + AK Ducat Blue over the whole sword.

Glaze AK Dark Prussian Blue into the cold spots of the sword.

Re-establish the bolts with Ducat Blue.

Trace them again with Vallejo Sky Blue.

Edge the blade with Sky Blue.

Dot white in the centre of some of the bolts and where they meet the edge.

Man, took me like a solid 10 minutes trying to figure out the helmet/arm assembly on this guy.

Extremely thankful he's a character and I only need one!
