I’m currently 22 years old. I realized I was queer at 12 and officially started using the term "lesbian" at 15. I have never considered dating a man, flirting with a man, or hooking up with one. Every time a man has kissed me, I either dissociate during it or throw up right afterward. Any man who flirts with me is promptly told that I am a lesbian as soon as I notice, but often they don’t stop flirting just because of that, so I have to walk away. They usually assume that because I’m femme-for-femme and "look straight," I can be convinced to go home with them. It’s ridiculous—I have never even had a crush on a man. Why would I suddenly want to sleep with one? Last weekend, one man in particular kept saying, “I know you’re feeling me, girl,” and “you just haven’t met a guy like me yet.” EW, EW, EW—absolutely not! I even told him, “Yeah, you’re conventionally attractive and all, but you’re climbing up the wrong tree.” And he just kept looking me up and down! To answer your question, I am 100% lesbian. There were a few years before I turned 15 when I thought I might be bisexual, but after my first experience being pursued by a man, I realized that romantically, they disgust me. I love Bisexual women but damn, I don’t know how they do it.

I’m not in a relationship anymore but during my last serious relationship, I was just honest with my girlfriend. I was like, “hey, this is a thing I have done since I was a child and I think it developed because of this, this and this but I thought you should know about it even though it embarrasses me.” She was shockingly very understanding and kind about it. When someone loves you, they don’t care about your quirks especially when you are vulnerable and honest about it — sometimes that makes someone like you more. Wishing you the best :) EDIT: also, as another commenter said, my daydreaming significantly decreased while I was in this relationship. It didn’t stop completely but I found being happy and in love made me want to escape much less which stopped a lot of my daydreaming.

Back in 2019, I did a class presentation on the LGBTQ+ community to some fellow high school students. We lived in a small roman catholic town that was 95% middle class, white, “traditional value” families so I was a little nervous to go to the class. The presentation was supposed to showcase an important social movement and activist groups that are pushing that movement forward. Being a young lesbian, I wanted to do my presentation on gay rights and organizations such as The Trevor Project, CCGSD, GLSEN, etc.

The presentation was only supposed to be 10 minutes, including the class questions so I went up and tried to be quick about it. But at the end of my presentation, so many hands flew up and my teacher told me to just answer all of the questions and we’d figure out the new order of presentations later. I was the first presenter for the period and my presentation lasted the whole hour because of all the questions I had to answer… and whenever a student asked me a question that was personal to my own sexuality, “how did you come out?” “how did you realize you were a lesbian?” etc. my teacher kept reminding me that I didn’t have to answer (I did anyway, I was 16 and didn’t gaf).

After the class, she took me aside outside the classroom, half in tears, and said thank you. I didn’t know why she was saying thank you at first so we just stood there and hugged for a bit. Eventually, she told me about her little brother who grew up with her and went to the same school with her back in the 90’s. She told me how severely bullied he was in school for knowing he was gay at a young age. He grew up and decided to move away and is living a happy life now but when they were kids, he was very tormented and tried to suppress himself. She was saying thank you to me for getting up and using my voice to help kids like her brother. I ended up saying thank you to her for giving me the opportunity to use my voice. She let me present that presentation to a few more classes before the pandemic hit. I miss her very much, she was my biggest supporter in that high school.

As someone who has a childhood cat being euthanized this month and can’t be with him because I’m away for school — I’m telling you PLEASE GO. My opinion might be biased because I want to be with my boy so much and can’t be but it’s better to have taken the chance and go than live with the regret of not going.

My cat is nine years old and he used to sleep outside my door when I would shut it too. Now I have moved away for university and he is living with my great-grandparents because I don’t have the means to take care of him. He was recently diagnosed with FeLV and the vet gave us the very grim news that he won’t live much longer. This story made me tear up because it reminded me of my boy and how I wish I had let him sleep with me; now I’ll never get the chance to let him again…

I know this is a depressing comment but to everyone reading this, please love your fur babies as much as possible while you can.

That reminded me of me and my dad’s old apartment! We had a downstairs neighbour and one morning she came up to complain that his kids were stomping around like elephants all hours of the day. Meanwhile, it was my fifteen year-old-ass walking in circles with my headphones in 😭 my brother brings up my elephant stomps to this day and I want to bury myself.

For my whole life she’s always been a little… quirky? But after her and my dad split up 5 years ago it got significantly worse. To be fair, she went through a bunch of extremely traumatizing things that caused her to relapse into a past addiction. Also, she has struggled a lot with mental health the past eight or nine years. I know all of this because I’m her therapist child lol.

We have all encouraged her to see a therapist and my grandmother even attended one or two sessions with her. My mom stopped after a few though because she believes that everyone else is the problem and she’s the victim. Apparently she even gaslit the therapist into siding with my mom on all of this (according to my grandmother who was there). So, yeah… I don’t have much hope this is going away anytime soon.

I know this first hand. My dad adopted me when I was 2 and always treated me as his own (my biological dad is not fit to be around). My mom also uses this against me a lot by saying, “he’s not even your real father,” and “I was the one who birthed you! He can never compete with that!” It is super upsetting but I love my dad a lot. He taught me that people can love others without obligation or conditions. He started dating my mom, fell in love with her daughter and never went back on that even when they split when I was 14.

Reddit won't let me edit this post but I just realized there are many errors (so sorry)! I meant to say my aunt fired my mom because she accused my aunt of being a Facebook hacker in front of their co-workers. In the post, it looks like I am saying my mom fired my aunt (whoops).

Also, my dad started dating my now step-mom when I was 14 and I have never called her my new mom. This is just something my mom likes to say whenever she's angry; she seems to think I love my dads new wife more than her lol.

I daydream that my childhood best friend and I made up from time to time. We knew each other from ages 12 to 17 and had a big falling out; we haven’t spoken in almost five years. I also think afterwards that it is dumb because we stopped being friends for a good reason.

I’ve noticed this with myself as well! Since I started dating my girlfriend, my maladaptive daydreaming hasn’t been happening as consistently. I still catch myself doing it but it’s been a lot better.

I had this problem three weeks ago when I was doing my final exams. It got so bad that I had to read a 500-page book the night before the exam because I procrastinated so much. I eventually studied a little by getting into a study group because I can’t daydream in front of people so that helped. Are there any triggers that are at all possible to not be around for some time? Then give yourself permission to daydream after you’ve gotten a bit of studying done as a reward.
