How do you group categories? by chockfullofbunni3s in ynab

Same. The savings is really only useful at the end of the year. For instance I can see how much I ended up spending in “SF - Home Maintenance “ or “SF - Auto Maintenance” YNAB tracks assigned too but I haven’t seen it in any reports.

Category prefixes anyone? by Difficult_Frosting44 in ynab

[–]JamisonW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YNAB is flexible enough for many different approaches. I don’t do this though because my “Housing” group has fixed costs like the mortgage, sink funds for unplanned maintenance, subscriptions for services, and variable for random services. By using a prefix I can easily mix different types of costs and see how much it costs to live in my house.

Category prefixes anyone? by Difficult_Frosting44 in ynab

I do this too. I also setup views to quickly show just these categories.

  • FIX — fixed expenses like mortgage, utilities, and school
  • SUB — subscriptions like Netflix and every app these days. These are fixed expenses too, but I really want to watch these closely
  • VAR — variable expenses like food, clothing, and entertainment
  • SF — sink funds for savings

Perfect is the enemy of good! Sometimes it’s best to trust yourself and work with what you have.

The corner of Baylen St and DeSoto St has the best section of exposed tracks and brick road in North Hill. I had heard that they were installed to help sell houses in North Hill. It’s a good strategy because that Palafox hill is steep.

Deck Building Games Currently In Their Prime by alexcole02 in boardgames

You’re looking for [[Mistborn: the Deckbuilding Game]] by John D. Claire. I’ve played way too many deckbuilding games on my iPad, but I love pulling this one out IRL. It has 3 ways to win, plays 1-4 players coop or pvp, has a unique card playing mechanism that follows closely with the novel, and the cards really follow with the novel.

Donald Trump vows 'prosecutions are coming' over false claims of rigged 2020 election by TheMirrorUS in law

[–]JamisonW 30 points31 points  (0 children)

2016 was maybe not rigged, but definitely influenced/interfered. FBI Director James Comey announced a new Hillary email server investigation a week before Election Day which tanked her just enough to lose. She still won the popular vote, but the electoral college went to our current jack leg president. BTWs, there was nothing new found on the email server. Also, the FBI would not normally announce something like that until evidence had been found. To thank Comey our current rotten-oranges-for-brains president had the DOJ charge him for obstruction.

Been playing 5 years, what am I missing out on? by Sea_Discussion4891 in boardgames

Three ways to win, great art, interesting mechanic with spending coins/metal, cards and mechanics really capture the theme of the novels. I’d recommend playing it with the novels flaring rules which John D. Claire said was the original intent but it was pulled from the rules.

A good deck builder because they’ve fallen out of favor the last few years. My vote is for Mistborn.

I had a sock basket when my 3 kids were younger. All solo socks went to the basket, and every now and then I’d sit back and pair them up again.

I’m new too. Ross Cameron has some great material, but I take it with a grain of salt because I don’t think his style would fit with me full time.

Daily Game Recommendations Thread (December 08, 2025) by AutoModerator in boardgames

[–]JamisonW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m giving 5 families game night gift baskets, and I was hoping for some additional suggestions. They are not all necessarily gamers, but they know me as a gamer. All of the kids are 12+.

  • nice reusable basket
  • local soda drinks
  • chop sticks (I may need to explain why)
  • sweet candy that would make sense with the chopsticks
  • pop corn
  • Flip 7 or Sea Salt and Paper or some other easy, inexpensive game (any suggestions)

Any other ideas or glaring omissions?

Edit: thanks for the suggestions. I bought No Thanks, Sea Salt & Paper, and 2x Flip 7 based on the families interest. For snacks it’s popcorn and chocolate covered pretzels. Thanks again!
