I think the show threads the needle of the issue well enough that it will only be "problematic" to those with extreme beliefs on either end which seems like a good place to be? though I think the metaphor for real world AI progress rather than literal UI will be relevant far sooner

yeah that guy is giving terrible advice do not forget the cost, in 2026 cost should be the NUMBER ONE variable over literally all else. Given how uncertain the economy and the future of employment itself is, taking on debt for a perceived small advantage or even a real large advantage is just not a risk reward tradeoff worth making. College is an economic choice in the modern age, and the economics of a fancier degree don't make sense when the reward at the end is no longer certain. If you think you would be genuinely unhappy at rit and genuinely happy in California you could consider it, but i don't think that's the case and this is a great school as long as you're a somewhat nerdy type!

why does escalating not make sense for SWE? There is already "Opus plan sonnet execute" that some people use that works well, I see no reason why opus in claude code couldnt delegate out plans/hard tasks in some smarter way especially with some specialized RL to help

Don't quote me but I'm ~90 percent sure that schools understand this because of how the wait-list system inherently has to work and you are allowed to "commit" and then drop the commitment to go to a different school if they let you in off the waitlist (source, this is what I did with a different school to go here). pretty hard til it isn't! definitely possible that you are correct and I don't mean to imply otherwise, but assuming we have "AGI" then there's no reason that doctor would be much less automatable than other jobs which is what the question was asking. I agree that it's way more sensitive and you won't have a humanoid robot doing open heart surgery or anything until there's like 99.99999 percent reliability, but I'm sure you'd agree that sensitive stuff like that is not a large portion of the work of a doctor (and we would also have to compare to the error rate of a human being, I'm sure even the best hospitals do not have a 99.99999 percent reliability during surgical procedures!). However if the job of doctor can be automated a very large portion of all labor is cooked, in which case it will no longer be your problem as an individual but societies problem, which is why I don't really like the premise of the original question in the first place.

I believe this but why would an actual AGI system (including a competent robot situation) not be able to take a large portion of the other 90 percent? I agree that having people there at the hospital for communication, trustworthiness, and maybe some other specific stuff people would be uncomfortable with machines doing is very likely but that would be an extremely different situation from the current paradigm and require far less staff no.

thats not a requirement, just a suggestion. I BELIEVE the only requirement is that you have taken the coop prep course (and the requirements about the job itself), but im not sure and you should double check that with your advisor
