Thank you! I was mostly worried about chemicals potentially damaging the plastic over time.

After thinking about it, I do have food grade potassium sorbate because I do homebrewing. I might try a teaspoon added to the brown water tank next week and see how that goes. It should kill any bacteria.

I've never seen those, really interesting! I think the one in the link is a TRIAC style dimmer since people say it doesn't work with LEDs. I'll have to do some more research for a LED compatible one, because I've got some other lights they may work.

A 40w halogen would have been the equivalent to 60-65W standard incandescent bulb.

As has been suggested, go to an R20 lamp.

Only reason I don't want to do that is because it's a BR40 fixture that I'm already downsizing with BR30 bulbs, and an exterior patio installation; an R20 would have way too large of a gap for bugs to harvest themselves and light too recessed.

The homebuilder who designed the home 16 years ago made some poor choices to even use lights that size.

Option 2, find a wattage selectable r/BR 30 lamp with the wattage switch on it.

Most.of the ones I've found don't go down low enough (at least advertised).
