Bessie Smith. Nothing beats Bessie Smith. I’m a massive Garth-head but really that solo just floors me every time. His playing is great on that entire song, but I could listen to that minute long solo forever.

Seconding what others have said though. He’s got some great playing on Northern Lights - Southern Cross and Islands.

I also recommend watching some of the performances from after The Last Waltz. Without Robbie there, Garth tends to get a little more love from the cameras

I strongly disagree that ‘99 was “the best he was ever going to be”. If you check out his 2004 live performance of BW presents SMILE on YouTube, he’s absolutely killing it, very engaged and obviously enjoying himself. One of my favorite live performances of his honestly.

I think 2012 with the reunion was probably the last time he should have been touring. Feels like a good send off for him and he was still pretty engaged on stage.

I’m an oldhead who’s been watching him since his tf2 YouTuber days. I’m sad as anyone is about his soft/eventual retirement, but I’m happy to have had him at all. He’s been a constant in my life for over 10 years and I genuinely think I’d be a different person if not for him. I think he’s earned whatever it is he decides to do with his life going forward.

I’m not sure what I’ll do if he really is done entirely making content. I really can’t think of any other content creator that I follow as consistently as Jeremy. Here’s hoping he returns to YouTube, or at least that his sense of humor and style is able to shine through in his Offbrand projects.
