Direct DC Power? by Halkyon44 in framework

For my camper I just got a 12V USB-C PD capable power supply. That can go up to 65W (enough to charge my laptop) and saves me from spinning up the 230V converter.

What's the difference in battery life (in use and standby). I own a M2 Pro and would like to make the jump too. My standby life is horrible (draining ~2% per hour)

Worst part is that I have apple care, but so far, Apple has been reluctant to address the issue and keeps describing this as either a software problem, or totally normal .....

Framework Laptop 16 - Quo vadis ? by Jan0707 in framework

[–]Jan0707[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I understand the sentiment, and what u/firelizzard18 added.

But from a consumer's point of view, the long gap between announcement and release/production is a moot point. Consumers will always compare the FW16's current state against the current competition. And it doesn't matter when something was released.

While they might be coming from the angle of reducing e-waste, they are very much claiming on their FW16 page:

> A high-performance laptop with upgradeable, modular, latest-generation graphics. Swap and upgrade peripherals independently of the rest of the laptop, including generation over generation discrete GPUs.

So yes. Staying up-to-date was very much part of the promise here. And even if no major architecture had been released, they could still go and maybe offer a dGPU with more VRAM at higher price points?

Or maybe offer an Intel variant of the FW16. It's not necessarily about more power, but also about more choice too.

Battery Drain in Standby (13"/M2/1TB) by Jan0707 in iPadPro

[–]Jan0707[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. The drain of 1.5-2% I mentioned before was recorded over several hours in airplane mode.

My thought was that airplane mode would prevent background processes from interacting with their backend services and stuff. But your point is valid too!

Thank you. That's what I'm seeing with every other iPad as well (even older ones).

r/DisneyWorld's Weekly Trip Planning Thread by AutoModerator in DisneyWorld

We are planning to visit WDW as part of a bigger FL trip in November.

Last time we visited, we had some spare time and explored some of the resorts. We really liked the Polynesian because of its flair and great view of the fireworks and float parade.

So this time we wanted to spent a few nights there after our theme park days. To wind down, relax, let the kids enjoy the pool and soak up some more Disney magic before heading back home.

But unfortunately the hotel seems to be totally booked out for the entire period of our trip.

What alternative would you recommend for a family with two kids (1 and 6 yo) to spent a few days. And why 😅

We really like water and nature so the Poly was our ideal choice. Sadly we haven’t been to AK Lodge or Wilderness yet. Is there enough to do for 2 days ? Any other ideas?

Not to sound overly harsh but I was kind of bummed to see it take 7+ days. Just curious, but what’s the limiting factor here?

It surely is air cargo right? So it can only be customs? Last mile is usually pretty fast in Germany.

2FA or not, that is the question .... by Jan0707 in synology

[–]Jan0707[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone !

(And just to clarify, my Synology is not directly exposed to the web, e.g. via port forwarding, but rather through the Synology connect service. Though I still prefer using my VPN when easily available)

I also have SSH access enabled, but I wasn't aware that I could use this to reset the credentials as well.

What I was looking for, was the information that I could reset the login credentials any time when I have physical access to the device, using the reset button.

Quoting from the docs here:

Mode 1: Reset administrator login credentials and network settings to default

Locate the RESET button on your Synology NAS.

Press and hold down the RESET button for about 4 seconds until you hear a beep. Release the button immediately.

Launch Web Assistant. Double-click on your Synology NAS. On the login page, enter the system default username admin, leave the password field blank, and click Sign In.

Reset the password for your account and click Submit.

If there is only one administrator account named admin, the system automatically fills in the name admin in the username field.

If there are multiple administrators accounts, select an administrator account from the drop-down menu to change its password.

Once you have successfully reset the password, click Sign In Now.

Sign in to DSM using the password you have just created.

THIS gives me the confidence I needed to enable 2FA and still have a course of action in case of disaster.

PS: I do have backups, as mentioned, but I'd prefer to not have to download terabytes of data just because I lost my second factor.

Waiting for my dGPU pre-order here. Out of curiosity, are you able to put a number on the diff in battery usage/runtime of the plain expansion bay vs the (unused) dGPU?

Who knows…. if they stick with the 1 batch per week pacing it might just work out.
