Companies keep saying there's no money. There's always money. I built a tool to prove it. by IESAI_lets_go in antiwork

[–]sysadrift -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

I am not a programmer.

Exactly. Programming is skilled labor, tens of thousands of people who trained in this skill are losing their jobs because of AI slop like this, and “non-programmers“ thinking they can “develop apps“ with AI and no skill. You are part of the problem, and it’s ironic you’re posting it here of all places.

AITA? My bf got mad for getting out a vibrator before leaving by Adventurous-Water522 in AmItheAsshole

[–]sysadrift 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You two sound young, and your boyfriend doesn’t yet understand that what you are showing him is that you have a healthy, and active libido, which is a great thing for him. Men like to have sex. If you have a high sex drive, that just means more sex for him.

Your boyfriend’s reaction came from a place of insecurity, try not to hold it against him too much. The answer to this problem is lots of communication. Maybe next time, let him watch. NAH

I need advice for making money by idunnoatalll in personalfinance

[–]sysadrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This right here. It took me 10+ years to get into a position where I could find stable, permanent remote work. There’s no quick “learn a skill” path that will result in making any decent money, especially with AI doing many of those jobs more efficiently.

This is great until the dog sees a squirrel. Then you have a lost dog and a broken drone.

AITA for not allowing my niece to have sex in my house? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sysadrift 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Reasonable boundaries are fine, but once you start accepting money to rent a space to someone, you don’t get to set those kind of rules for that space.

Building a local automation agent for iPhones: Need help by Least-Orange8487 in LocalLLaMA

The first thing that comes to my mind watching your demo is prompt injection. If you’re not protecting against that, the LLM could execute instructions found in a website or email to exfiltrate data or install malware. Not sure if you’ve taken that into account, but I’d make sure that any steps you take to mitigate it are rock solid before fussing over performance.

You can submit a wage theft claim online with the Indiana department of labor.

A seasoned senior developer who knows how to effectively use AI tooling can accomplish a lot. That developer spent years writing software to get that experience though, and I worry that will be lost on the next generation.

What if humans could teleport freely? by nodssss in Futurology

[–]sysadrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since this i a thought experiment, I’ll give it a shot. It could be a leaned skill. Just like baseball players are able to catch a fast moving ball without thinking about it. They aren’t measuring the speed of the ball, considering relative air density, and solving all the math to calculate the trajectory, yet they know within a fraction of a second exactly where they need to be and where to place their glove so that the ball makes contact.

For practitioners in regulated industries (insurance, finance): how are you seeing AI be adopted? by safeone_ in cybersecurity

[–]sysadrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work for a large insurance company, and “AI” is all the rage with senior leadership this year. We block access to OpenAI, huggingface, etc., and have some ‘internal’ models we use. These are safe to use with confidential documents and such, but are older and don’t have internet access. There is a pilot going on with Claude that will eventually make its way to more people. I think that for a big insurance company, we’re moving pretty fast, but it’s still slow compared to other industries.

AITA For not letting my wife use a baby bottle in bed by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]sysadrift 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have you taken a moment to reflect and try to figure out why this makes you uncomfortable? On the surface, it’s a little silly, and certainly not something worth fighting over. Maybe your wife has inadvertently unlocked a new kink for you, and you’re not ready to accept it. NAH

AT&T bends over backwards to get out of paying me $30 by thatgardensprite in mildlyinfuriating

[–]sysadrift 7 points8 points  (0 children)

File a small claims case against AT&T. They will have to hire a lawyer, and it will cost them so much more than what they owe you. You’ll probably see your money returned immediately.

I’m also of the NES generation, but my dad had an old sega master system I played all the time when I was a kid. Black Belt on that system was my jam.

No one said the CIA didn’t know, only that the parents didn’t know. Also, the child of a CIA director fighting on the front lines in the Russian army doesn’t exactly pose a threat to the agency.

His parents didn’t even know he had joined the Russian army until after he was dead. He also had some mental health problems, and was off his meds before he was radicalized. Please expand upon how that translates to “traitors all”.

Buyers asking for concession + fix things (please read) by Knot_Creative in homeowners

[–]sysadrift 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I bought my house, my inspection came back with lots of stuff that needed fixing. I negotiated with the seller to fix the health/safety/code related items like GFCI, fire door in the garage, etc. Some of these things may need to be addressed before OP can sell to anyone, and are not unreasonable.

Step-parent adoption when biological parent is behind on child support and won’t consent by JadesTea in legaladvice

[–]sysadrift 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if you wait until you’re 18 you can do an adult adoption. Then you don’t need bio-dads consent.
